How about ironsights in ET?
Will you like it ?
I recently added them to my mod , but i am not sure if anyone will play them…
I think that options are for everyone…
EDIT: image of it

How about ironsights in ET?
hmm, don’t really think I want something that takes up half of the screen
plus, it’s been done already, didn’t like it then either
Yeah , i dont expect that anyone here will like it …
I havent planned to take existing hardcore players…
I know that most ET hardcore players have gun off and they dont mind this …
This poll is mostly to see how much they will be agains , and if there are any ET ppls that will like it…
Biggest disadvantage is that my realistic mod is not for ET players , because it is just mess for them , they will not be able to play with their configs , and blah blah ( i dont care)
I am just wonder who will like more ironsights than my ( weird ) garand skin…
Ironsights will stay in mod , and i dont care results …
In my experience, ironsight modes (as used in games like True Combat, COD etc) essentially reward slowing down and camping. Assuming the ironsight gives you increased accuracy (and its hard to imagine any other reason to use it), and the transition to ironsight takes time, then combat rewards the person who either move slowly ironsight mode, or camps. This makes combat more dependant on who gets the ‘jump’ on the other person, rather than on movment.
If there was no movment penalty, then why would people ever leave ironsight mode ? I suppose you could make the FOV low enough that people would want the extra peripheral vision.
I suggest that having ironsights or not should be based on specific gameplay goals, not what looks cool or realisitic. If the goal of your mod is the kind of gameplay that ironsight modes emphasize, then you should use them. Without knowing what kind of gameplay you want, and how you intend to implement ironsights (FOV, speed adjustments, time to go to/from ironsight mode) it is hard to say if they would be good or not.
If the question is “would you want TC:E style ironsights in normal ET ?”, my answer is “hell no!”
How can you see around that thing to see where to shoot ? Maybe if you make the skin partially transparent up to the eyesplits/ironsight.
That would relieve me of believing I am smurf with a gun from hell.
what reyalP said.
it’s appropriate for some games, not for ET as it exists now. in AA it’s incredibly well done and i can’t imagine that game without it. in COD it’s sortof “ok i need to do this sometimes, but i really hate to because i’d rather shoot from the hip”. but in ET it would utterly change the gameplay. as for TC:E - it’s CS with iron sights - which CS should have had from the beginning, tbh, but i suppose it wasn’t really feasible at the time, and Valve wouldn’t dare make such a drastic addition for CS:S, what with the venomous CS community being how it is.
anyway, i see no need to insult the guy. it’s cool that he made a mod for ET, and i wish him luck with it.
Personally, I’m a sucker for iron sight games. I like the trade-off between mobility and accuracy, and I think it really works well in SP. It’s a great way of modulating the speed of a player’s progress and the density of their gameplay experience. However it’s VERY hard to make work in MP, especially when players are used to bunny hopping and rocket jumping. There are several ways of stopping players from camping, but I don’t think we put many of them in ET.
Anyway, nice work Jaquboss : )
Thanks , but i dont think that it is bad idea , look @ Call of Duty , in single player there was no time to use ironsights , and it was very hard without crosshair , but in multiplayer they are very valueable , but it also shows that Call of Duty dont works so well with Medal of Honor maps , because killing distance is long…
In ET the situation is not so bad , because the killing distance for smg´s is very large ( maybe because they are more accurate than sniper rifles ) , so i think it may work…
Not all players will like that , and it will slower game …
No way. COD is more realistic by being slow, but you don’t see me playing it. I like speed.
Wolfenstein is a cartoon. it’s been a cartoon from it’s conception (see http://www.wolf3d.co.uk/ ). we like it this way. iron sights are great - in realistic games, which the Wolfenstein franchise is most definately NOT. but again, if this mod is meant to be a total conversion, that’s great! just don’t expect it to be a sort of “mini-mod” that will be welcomed into the existing et community.
I would like that, i know it will take out speed, but i like it when people are forced to think before doing something (ok, this is or definitely causes camping, i know
)
So i am interested in testing it, and you still have the option of not playing this mod all the time, when i need some bunnyhop-speed-killing (what will happen surely) i switch back to a normal game.
And that you see you are not alone here Jaquboss.
Agreed. The wolf games got more in common with Q3 than CS or CoD.[/quote]
I agree, but isn’t that the key to a game that is fun, addicting, amusing, intense…and that keeps humility in the hearts of it’s players. Also; I like imagination in the games creation over the likeness of a brickwalls texturing----both together would be better I suppose, but to each his own. I mean…they are games afterall.
I’m not against ironsights as long as they are done right and fit the gameplay. It should be great thing for long-range fights but extreme disadvantage at short range. For ET, it could finally make unscoped rifles useful in long range and keep them inaccurate at short range - that makes perfect sense. However, it would require complete rethinking of SMGs (if it wouldn’t be a rifles-only thing but even that would be great).
BTW, CoD ironsights are bad joke compared to Operation Flashpoint or Vietcong. If u want to talk about ironsights, check those two games first (work great for both single- and multi-player).
You are right next_ghost , i love vietcong ironsights , but they have another feature that makes them even better , ironsights are used there to lean over obsteclates …
Hovewer smg’s dont like ironsights so much , they simply recoil/spread so their maximal effective attack distance is still low compared to unscoped rifles …
operation flashpoint is very, very difficult to play and very slow though. tradeoff for the realism i guess.
