Hi There folks :)

(Salteh) #61

I enjoyed HL2

(Wils) #62

Listen to these guys [edit: not Salteh], they know what they’re talking about. I played HL2 once and my face fell off!

(Dazzamac) #63

Its true. The poor guy has to do his magazine interveiws and all lookin like this

(Gringo) #64

The claw came in handy for people who argued HL2 was good!

(carnage) #65

how can anyone not think hl2 was a great game

as far as a single player experiance goes it had everythign. And the use of the physics engine gave much more sence of realism then other games like doom3 that rely on dynamic lighting and give the physics more of a backseat role… not to mention how much more friendly it was to slower PC’s

(Dazzamac) #66

I just don’t think it was a great game. I played it, I finished it, I never played it since. I especially didn’t like the bit where it basically turned into resident evil. C’mon a crazed priest with a shotgun in an abandoned village and ammo is short? Been done too many times. admittedly the gravity gun/saw blade combo was fun though. There are plenty of other games out there that are as fun to play. Tbh I don’t really care if that coke can on the ground gets kicked over the ground if I bump into it, as long as there are plenty of dumb frag monkeys waiting to eat my bullets the physics can do what it likes, it won’t beat Quake as far as mindless fun comes to play. And if we’re really being picky, none of them come close to the level of gameplay on a certain MP only WW2 shooter built on a Q3 engine :rocker2:

HL2 game=OK

Mods…CS:S DoD:S=very very good

If you are a gamer these are must have games.

I just liked HL2 SP. All those enemies making funny noises, lots of things to do with the environment…

But I’m not to be found for CS:S and DoD:S though. ET is just more fun imho.

Hi There Guys :),

Talking of HL2 I tried it again with the same problem of it dropping me back to the desktop at the loading screen but what is worse is I got hold of DoD: Source this weekend as Steam has just had a DoD free w/end that I took advantage of. I thought sound!, I’ll grab that! but it’s done the exact same :banghead: :bash: :banghead: .

Now that is a c**t!!, HL2 I can handle till I go buy it but I did really quite fancy DoD source & having a blast over the weekend but it’s doing the exact same thing!?.

Am I correct in thinking I read somewhere that it’s bundled with HL2 retail anyway?, if this is correct? I’ll go get it through the week I think?.
It’s going to have to be CS:CZ & DoD till then I fink.

Soz I haven’t been on for a few days but I’ve been playing with a new (to me) linux distro called Ubuntu and getting my home network laid out again as I’ve been getting a new central heating system installed in my house & they’ve had the bloody floorboards up & everything!.
I did actually think at one point about taking the opportunity to lay the RJ-45 terminated cables down under the floorboards but decide against it as I’d like to go wireless anyway.

Btw Higgins, I been getting what praccy in I can mangage, not like I don’t need it or anything like LoL!!, incase you guys don’t know already I was totally owned by H when we played ET:RtCW the other day but my excuse is I don’t know the maps & keys and I’m sticking to it! LoL :bump: .

Regards, Esskie.

Talking of networking, anyone here selling a hub?, it doesn’t have to be a DSL modem too though it would be fine?.

(Sauron|EFG) #71

You really want a hub? (Switches are as cheap as hubs these days.)

(Nail) #72

stick with wires, wireless can be dodgy for online gaming, and before everyone starts flaming, I said can be not is

(Esskie) #73

You really want a hub? (Switches are as cheap as hubs these days.)

You’re right, a mate has an 8 port 10/100 switch which I think he paid £15 new for, thats pretty good. I saw a 16 port switch for £35.

I need/want something I can have centrally positioned that I can just run leads terminated with RJ45 plugs from each PC to. Would that enable me to connect three PC’s & give em all net access etc?.

I was thinking hub as being central you know?, maybe I took the term hub literally!?. I would like something that will enable me to do the above plus it’s another connection point for the LAN sessions we have here (when everyone can be arsed getting their gear all together at once that is!.

Hows this for £25?:
Unbranded external Broadband router 4-port switch hub, needs cable modem. Connect an Ethernet cable from PCs Ethernet port to one of the Router BR41, WAN Connection. Connect the network cable from your DSL (or cable) Modem to WAN port of the Router BR41.
Supplied with Power Adaptor, Installation disk. Internet access TCP/IP, UDP, ICM,RARP, PPP0E,NAT, DHCP,SERVER,DHCP CLIENT, STATIC IP ASSIGNMENT. 10BASE-T. 100BASE-T (MPC850 chipset) Support NAT For IP Sharing IP sharing: share a single IP account within your entire network via NAT routing way.

That would do what I want wouldn’t it?, maybe a bit overkill though?. It only has 4 ports too which would do me at home but the 16 port switch would suit the LANs better but I’ve got to think practically & how often it would be used @ a LAN compared to the constant use it’d get here in my house.

Also, am I correct in saying that this:
BROADBAND ROUTER 4-PORT + USB (Phone line ADSL)

Comes with Cross-over cable, RS-232 cable, RG-11 cable, Manual, Power Supply and drivers on a floppy.
Supports G.992.1 and G.992.2 starndards. Upto 8Mbps downstream and 640Kbps upstream.
Configurable through HTTP. IP sharing Via NAT routing. (Chipset ALCATEL). Connects directly to the ADSL line

  • would allow me to do all of the above and do away with my DSL modem at the same time?.

Bear in mind these are all connected with cables, the wireless counterparts will be more expensive I dare say.

(Nail) #74

either way works, the BROADBAND ROUTER 4-PORT + USB (Phone line ADSL) would eliminate the dsl modem but seems to be limited in upload speed, the switch on the other hand would allow for more players on lan
