It was both disheartening and warming that there was a player last week who joined the nirvana server who asked, how long as this server been here? He was completely oblivious that there were custom maps for the game, the warming part was that he enjoyed the new maps he played and was keen to play again. It might be too late for a mass revival of this game but I reckon it’s possible to keep things ticking over.

Releasing the source would be nice thing to see, it could pave a way to fix certain elements of the game for those who are still playing and help out modders and people who wish to learn from it. Either way something good might come of it and who knows you might have a minor hit on your hands, only have to look DayZ to see what mods are capable of doing, I don’t think many people were playing Arma2 before that all kicked off, even lesser known mods have managed to form small communities for dead games, the mechwarrior mod for crysis, which started out as an ET:QW mod incidentally, managed to get a nice following. The Tribes mod for ET:QW could have done similar and did so for a couple of weeks but fizzled out very quickly.

Regarding Wolf:MP though, it might appear a waste of time but I’m having fun working on the project so far. Things are slow as the few members we have are having lots going on in the outside world but we’re getting there one step at a time.

I think with the right tools, ie:sdk and asset pac, there’s enough dedicated, intelligent people just in these forums to give it a worthwhile revive. I’d say bribe Carmack, but frack, they guy owns spaceships

As someone just getting back into ETQW, I cried a little reading this. If the official servers go offline, would there be enough community support to make and unofficial client? Also, is the server software public?

Yeah i dream about this game came back to Steam, because this is perfect multiplayer game ever, even than Battlefield. I played long time in Wolfenstein ET, and i played Quake wars, it was amazing, but it was non steam retail version. Uhh, i want to pay for it on my Steam account and get it to my library!

hi guys, was having a discussion about BF earlier with some friends, and the topic of this game came up… and then I started feeling all nostalgic and looked it up to see if people were still playing. Well, that search lead me these forums, and this topic.

this was one of my top games when it was released, and still holds a special place in my heart.

i must say, it’s been years since i’ve even thought about this game, let along heard any news about it. Didn’t realize steam had taken it down, and that CD keys were a rare commodity these days.

that said, i don’t really have much of a point, or anything to say that will add to this discussion really…

only registered to say that i would love for this game to be re-released or set free.

If you are interested in watching one of the last matches in QW, then you should take a look at this tournament which is running at the moment: GG Tournament :wink:
