Enemy Territory: Quake Wars has been removed on Steam.
Thats old news i know.

No one one can buy a key now, even ebay is drying up.
PB is a mess.
No new players are coming into the game anymore.
Servers are disappearing BH for example is finishing up this weekend.
The demon server appears to be falling over and intermitent client auth issues ( thanks again to SD seem to be on the case)

ID I believe own the game now but have done nothing with it months on.

Its a sad state of affairs really and many have tried and failed to get answers even from ID.

In a perfect world i would love to see ETQW back on shelfs again or even in a Steam sale.
Even a free weekend .Which has never happened.

The only guys that really cared for the game is SD so they in a way have become the voice of the voiceless .
(stole that from CM Punk)

The Game will only survive if its released again or even free.
I wonder if SD would enquire,
If they could approach ID for some information regarding ETQW future.
Maybe its possible some good news however unlikely.

I would be the last one in this forum here who wants to see QW disappear, but

are you serious?

I mean the game is 5 years old, the game is too complicated for beginners, but we had a nice time.
Once it’s time for every game, sadly for the QW case though. :frowning:

What do you expect from this thread? I hope you know that SD can’t do much…

HI Rex just a opinion and a simple reason why not.
Duke Nukem 3d has just been released and doing well on steam and that looks real nasty these days and a old game.
Complicated really anyone can pick up the basics.
Rumours are that the source code could be available in the next year ive just learned that (abeit after i posted).
ID have the license now and you cannot buy the game for love or money.
It makes good business sense to release the game in some shape as its never been available for download for less then 25 quid to the public.

What are ID going to do with the title seems to be a valid question (since Activison handed it back to them).
However when Joe public seem to enquire about it we never get a valid reply.I dont expect anything we never do with Quake wars.
SD could ask that question as they are in a better position than the community.
However if Carmack is saying the Quake wars is next in line for open source that to me is a result. https://twitter.com/ID_AA_Carmack/status/297355484623675392

I dont think that any player will come back to etqw just because the code got released. And who is willing to spend so much time to make etqw better? You have to get rid of demonware log in and other stuff, I imagine that you cant change that in a couple of hours.

(Setlec) #5

the only thing that i can’t say for sure is to whom ETQW’s Intellectual Property belongs to? SD developped it, id Soft produced it. Most of id Soft games’ IP (Quake series, Doom series and Wolfenstein series) now belongs to zenimax. Lack-of-vision sold all IPs rights to Zenimax, so Bethesda can publish all of those games, for exception of ETQW. Any SD guys could enlighten us on this matters?

(Setlec) #6

I’ve forgot to say IF ETQW src code is released all of the proprietary middleware, such as Demonware and whatnot, will be removed from the code. id soft does it like this for ages, i.e.: Doom 3’s stencil shadowing has been removed from the game src code due to a patent issue ( Carmack’s tech was patent by Creative Labs, so the GPL code has the Carmack’s reverse tech).

lol then cAMPAIGN TO SAVE BRINK: BRINK free.

says it all really.

(aSHARK) #9

Ads,
I personally dont think this will help
i agree with rex;the game is 5years old.
I had alot of fun since i bought the game and i still love every public game i play on daily basis and ofcourse the nirvana games on sunday evening.
But the game will always be like.this from now on…just waiting for the end and having fun.

This game has lasted through a torrent of neglect.
Its easy to be down and accept it as it is,
I am a very positive guy i am gratefull that i can play the game today and hopefully the next day.
So why not try and preserve this wonderful game.
Nothing to lose with trying.

Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is now owned by ZeniMax, and I believe this may now include distribution rights too (hence the Activision version of the game disappearing off digital download services). I’m not sure if ZeniMax are planning to do anything with it at this point in time, though.

thx badman, as usual, fast with infos/clarification

You talked about the source code, but what would it do? I see only very few people in this community who could do something with it. And I highly doubt any of them would spend there time for because it might sound harsh now, but it’s wasted time.

I won’t stop you to save QW though, but I hope you know how many tried in the past.

(Ads913) #14

Badman.
Thanks for covering the rights issue.

“cAMPAIGN TO SAVE BRINK: BRINK free and pay DLCs (And on next DLC include the SDK)” lol no comment ^ ^ maybe qw died but im sure qw deserves more than brink to live

HAHAHAAA   This made my day!
At least he’s a funny troll…

Free to play may get more people playing, but as already been stated, the game’s learning curve isn’t exactly nice so people would stop playing almost immediately. Imo the games been out far to long for any src code release to have a significant impact.

(Boktor) #18

I say moving old games to free to play has been tried and at this point it’s too late to jump on that wagon.

I think QW would have a better chance is if there was a reliable CD key seller going for cheap, something like $8 each (or £6 ). If it were possible to get a bunch of old players migrating back to try some active servers we have somewhere to start. Then maaaybe we can get an audience of fresh players to follow-up and entice to make a purchase. It wasn’t that hard for me to get a couple of friends to buy it. Pub servers are still having some intense games pretty regularly.

(_Megabyte) #19

Phew, at last id have hands on etqw, now the things will move in right direction.

(Breo) #20

No problem remove the CD check pls xD
