I hate them headshot geeks, in fact while they’re at it, they should add auto-aim & auto-move for people like me who can’t aim and don’t have time to learn how to.
Heads up: Next update for Brink
This game is already soooo dummy’d down, and ppl want it even more simple /facepalm
On topic : yay an update!!! Wish we could get our AR’s fixed ( PS3 ), but perhaps the clan stuff will give myself & others more incentive to ply
I like a challenge as well, but not if the element of difficulty is based on broken game mechanics. Challenging shouldn’t equate to frustrating. I’d love to see a slightly tighter spread on at least the ARs and shotguns. I bet you’d see more people willing to play as heavies if that were the case, as well.
How so? For the amount of movement that is required to live through a firefight of any length, the guns should be more accurate when hip-firing, plain and simple. I don’t feel like that’s “dummy’d down,” I think it’s making the game more playable for more people. Whatever the case, the online community is pretty abysmal as far as sheer numbers go, so apparently it wasn’t fun or appealing for most people.

I mean the gunplay ( the fact that its mainly spray&prey ) & the fact that SMART was simplified durring the development process…
Honestly i feel great skill is needed to dodge oncoming bullets & nades & that alone is 1 of the reasons I always return
Sry 4 being off topic, i shall say no more…
I know exactly what you mean.
When I play basketball, I always ask the people in charge to lower the basket to 8ft, because I cant dunk. I usually get met with a laugh or two since I’m 6ft4, but its not my fault I cant jump right? It shouldn’t be that much of a problem considering they do this for little kids.
[
Argh I sure hope they’re not tightening the spread on guns. Maybe if they removed headshot damage it would be ok. I don’t see why the game mechanics should let the boom headshot geeks ruin it for those of us who can’t hone our skills 10 hours per week.

On a different note, free weekends or sales need to happen to get any of the pub player base, and a few tourneys with prize money to bring back the comp crowd.
Don’t bother with the tourneys with prize money, the game’s sunk too deep already. How many teams showed up on the previous one again? 4 out of 8 with €1500 prizemoney?

Mostly the game just needs to be good. If people are that desperate for money, they should get a job. I’d rather make money cleaning a toilet bowl. Competitive players usually like the game they play, which is how they motivate themselves to stick to it. I’ll play a game I like rather than requiring some alternative to the game itself to make me play, like some measly pocket cash prize.
Your kind of missing the point. Brink has no competitive players left. Competitive players are drawn to games with tournaments and leagues, especially those large enough to have prizes. Its an incentive used to bring in extra teams and players in order to grow a comp player base, without which it would not matter if you were playing for money or for fun, as you would have no one to play against. Brink has a horrific reputation, so monetry incentives are in my opinion required to get the old players to reinstall and the new ones to give it a try.
@Light, yes but that was for the game that had no changes. It was a cash prize for a game no one wanted to play in its current state (although i apreciated the free 90 euros all the same). IF the changes for brink actually made it into a half decent comp game, then the cash prize, along with the free weekend, would attract a comp player base. Without one, you will struggle.
All depends if the changes are any good of course. If they arent then no amount of anything will revive brink.

I dont think hes missing the point.
Yes there are teams who simply play for (the lack of a better term) “free money”.
On a fundamental level though, the game needs to be designed for competitive play… eg sc2
Reputation does have an influence, however its only when players play the game for themselves they realise they are wasting their time.
There are no amount of weapon tweaks that will make Brink a game made for competition, because all its issues are predicated at the design stage of the game. Theres no amount of free weekends that will bring back comp players to play it. It might create a new breed of comp player, where Brink acts as a stepping stone for competitive play into other games - but thats it.
^ this. Brink ESL ring a bell? Money prizes but zero interest from comp players. There is really no point to play games that aren’t on the level of starcraft for money, because you really lose money with the time investment. I find money is less important than game play, which is why Brink tournaments crashed and burned.
HAHA yes this is indeed good news!
I hope this won’t be the last as well, SD keep it up
This is great and all… but… I’m not even going to go into the November 8th.
The problem with Brink was that it wasn’t ready for competition when released but cup organisers held cash prize tournaments anyway too early on to try get people playing, obviously this generated a fair bit of interest but the game was no where near ready to be played in this manner so when these cups started players were left with a really bad taste in their mouth, one that would take a hundred bottles of Listerine to wash away, no amount of updates or cash prize tourneys will reverse the damage done I’m afraid.
A similar thing happened to ET:QW but faired better due to been more playable. The game was being used at Quakecon and Iseries without having a competition mod released yet, teams were obviously drawn in by the cash but the game wasn’t right fun to play, after these big events were over they went elsewhere (COD4). By the time CDC4 had arrived they weren’t that many top teams left, a couple came back for the money but many stayed clear, the prize wasn’t that big and the game in their mind was crap despite having ET:QW Pro by then (albeit a beta) so why bother? There were other games with bigger prizes with established competition scenes. ET:QW pretty much fizzled out soon afterwards with only a few CB cups and such there after.
In both cases, perhaps if competition was catered for before big tournaments were held then the retention for teams would have been a lot higher, playing ET:QW with the CB 6v6 config is pretty awesome and if teams had played this from day one things could have been a lot different.
I’m afraid that weapon tweaks and clan features (Steam already have it) won’t change the current state of the game.
Hopefully the Brink update contains a lot gameplay wise changes (HUD, AI, objects, balance etc.)
