Have you play against such player?

(wolfpac) #1

I am !impressed! by someone I play against/with on a server. And I still cannot shake the experience from my head.

I am jealous, I saw this guy rack up kills using thompson/some airstrike and end up more than double the frag of the 2nd most frag(90something vs 42) . So I started to watch him and trying to learn. I finally had the chance to be on his opposing team. for some reason he is incredibly accurate, a few shot and I was dead. then I hoped my teammates can kill him because it was near the spawn spot. but after 3 sec i was wrong, within that 3 sec he kill 4 people (all with the little thompson).

I started to be confused, how can someone be so accurate? Later I tried to jump around and random fast moving, but it doesnt work, a few shots from his sten simply kill me in 2 sec. I have never seen such accurate shooting. Is it because i never played with a REAL FPS player?

When i said accurate, it means head shots. what do you guys think of this? is there a server where I can watch such action?

:bash:

Well yeah, shooting at the head makes people drop like flies

Of course, sometimes a little bit of luck (when you have CQC with 4 enemies they are bound to teamwound each other) and being on a roll helps too

(wolfpac) #3

no I am not talking about luck. this person always kill many defore he dies and end up 90+ frags with mostly thompson/pistols. and yes aiming to the head kill with a few shots but you really need to be focus and hand twisting when enemy is moving and running like hell. BTW this person can kill at fairly long distance with pistols as long as he can see you. pistols are hard at long distance, because they move upwards when fire.

Oh well wish i have a chance to meet such skill later

I didn’t say it was only luck. But when you have good reactions and play aggressively you tend to create situations where luck is on your side, as in one-vs-many firefights. I was more talking about myself, I often win fights I shouldn’t have won because I’m not that good - but I did because I was aggressive, some of the enemies were already wounded and/or got wounded by teammates during that firefight. Not caring about getting killed helps a LOT, I’d even say it helps not getting killed! Because instead of retreating behind a corner, just to get exploded by a grenade, you fire those last few bullets that are needed to take the enemy out.

That player just has mad aiming I guess. Practice, practice, practice. He/she could be using an aimbot of course, too… but I guess you would have noticed that when you spectated.

Well… I was taking out entire spawns tonight… and obviously I was being accused of cheating… as one of those kinds of players I’m telling you it’s really all about knowing when to strafe left and right (it’s mostly just trying to read the other player) and at the same time just keeping your crosshair on the other players head… that’s all there is to it.

practice with a buddy on a server… strafing back and forth and ONLY shooting when you think you have a headshot… just hit the fire button ONCE… see what happens… you’ll notice an improvement in your game… :drink:

I’ve seen some good players, and some who are so insane (nearly 100% accuracy with SMGs/pistols) that they almost certainly are cheating. But there are definitely good gunners out there.

I’ve found (like AmazingLarry) that focusing on aiming at the head and only firing with a clear shot really helps. I watched some of my old replays and noticed that I used to often shoot to the side of an enemy when both of us were strafing – my attention was on strafing, not aiming, so I wasted a lot of ammo never hitting anyone. I’ve since started trying to aim first, run without thinking, and focus all my mind on getting the little crosshairs over the guy’s face. I’ve gotten a lot better because of it, and win about 70% of my 1v1 fights now (lot of improvement for me). I really recommend it.

I’ve come up against players with truly awesome aim, some of whom I know from RTCW so I know they’re not cheats. I’ve also had moments myself when I seem to be able to take down player after player, and I’m extremely average.

Aiming for the head, crouching when shooting from distance, playing intelligently (not blundering round corners), anticipating where the enemy are likely to be, etc., will all make you a better player. Using a small dot crosshair and turning off the gun (cg_drawgun 0) will probably help your aim and using a larger FOV (field of view) (cg_fov 100-120) will enable you to see more and not get taken unawares as often.

As regards the suspicion of cheating, however, my stock response:-

  1. If you’re playing on a PunkBuster enabled server proceed to step 2. If not, leave, find a PunkBuster enabled server then, if you still spot players with uncanny abilities, proceed to step 2.

  2. Spectate the player in question. Does his crosshair seem to jerk mechanically from head to head? Could be an aimbot. Does he appear to be shooting through walls, or have uncanny anticipation of players appearing from behind objects? Could be a Wallhack, but bear in mind some people play with larger FOV (field of view) whereas you spectate with yours, so the player may really be seeing more than you can.

  3. If the player in question really does appear to be doing something he shouldn’t be able to do (note: I don’t mean something you can’t do, I mean something that shouldn’t be possible), take a demo and report it to the server admin and / or Evenbalance ( www.evenbalance.com ).

In Single Player RtCW, play on the Chateau level (level 6-3 I think? the level before the Dark Stage)

The Chateau level is full of Elite and Black Guards with Stens and FG42s.

use a “/give all” code equip yourself with an automatic weapon (Thompson, MP40, or Dual Colts if you’re brave) and blow through that stage. No health pick ups either. 100 health and 100 armour and infinite SMG ammo is all you get.

force yourself to blow through this stage FAST with smg’s. by playing in this environment, forces you to aim for the head and do lots of running and gunning. good headshot practice.

LoL, :banghead: too busy trying to stop him and his team and forgot to spectate… Besides his exp was rising like crazy of all the frags he made, I was afraid that my exp at no.1 would be lost.

I am not saying aiming so well is using cheat, but I do like to think of that way to explain the unexplained. :???:

oh if you guys have played UT2003 with god-like mode then you will know the feeling.

BTW do you guys know any servers with good skill players? Sometimes it is annoying that I have to switch classes to do important things that my teammates ignore to do. All the switcging classes was making my head spinning and sufferring from identity crisis (fotgetting who I was).

(Loffy) #10

Here’s a high quality Swedish server, usually loaded with good players. And me.

Some players are just really good. You’ll bump into them from time to time. If you do i recommend putting yourself on the other team and seeking them out. This is learning the hard way but it should make you better in the long run. I’ve been playing this nearly everyday since it was released (so its possible i’ve spent more time playing then most people) and i’ve yet to come across anyone who i thought was cheating. I’ve seen many good players accused of cheating when they were not.

I have noticed there is a possibilty that players can get around punkbuster with a value changing program such as Artmoney or Cheat’O’Matic. these programs change any numerical values in the game and keep it at that value. One could make themselves have infinite health or infinite ammo. I tested it by making my own server to see if Punkbuster could catch such a thing and to my surprise, Punkbuster never caught it. I dont cheat at games myself cuz that just takes the fun out of it since half the fun is getting yourself killed. So I think that’s something else we gotta watch out for.

(Kendle) #13

Quick search on Google:-

From the Artmoney FAQ:-

1. Can we use this software to cheat in multiplayer games?
It’s works in some games only if ArtMoney is running on the server machine.

Hardly likely, and of no use whatsoever to the client. (remember it’s the server that assigns you health and ammo, there’s nothing the client (you) can do to influence it).

Cheat’O’Matic appears to have nothing to do with FPS multiplayer games.

(GAS:InvisableKid) #14

i played with a guy like that once, his name was [vault] and he was fuckin amazing, killed everyones ass, he got akimbos in the first map and single handidly held the allies at the old city, he was that dam good

(Pamper) #15

I’ve seen people do this. It seems the normal-excellent aimers play medic and get 50 frags, while the super-excellent aimers use fieldop and get 75. The one interesting tweak I notice from very good SMG duelists is they often use a reduced Y axis sensitivity. That way, moving the crosshair up and down is harder than spinning left and right. Almost like you’ve locked your aimpoint at head-level.

I haven’t tried it, but it apparently works well for others.

(SCDS_reyalP) #16

The setting is m_pitch. Most servers punkbuster configs restrict this to outside of “-0.015” to “0.015”. The default is 0.022. Negative values invert the mouse. Some people in RTCW also used the centerview command. Centerview was removed from ET (and limited in RTCW OSP).

I use m_pitch 0.01501 which certainly doesn’t lock at head level. It does make sense that you want lower sensitivity in vertical. You often want to do a 180 degree turn with the mouse, but looking up or down even 90 degrees is quite rare.

(petlion) #17

BTW: SOME of these people who rack up the frags rambo style are medics , they do the old : find enemy> kill em, run and throw ur self medpacks and repeat oh ____ and question at what level do meds self heal ?, (if possible, i heard it once i never play medic so wouldnt know)

({PiQ} Apoch) #18

Medics always self-heal.

(amazinglarry) #19

I get over 90+ kills on Fuel Depot and I’m a medic… not a field op

Obviously not every time I play though. :bored:

(Dawg) #20

If you just want to rack up kills then your best class is medic. But this requires that you have an FO willing to keep the ammo flowing or can cull ammo off your foes (by switching weapons). The reason has already been touched on - they get to heal themselves between each fight. They also have a higher hit point total and auto-heal themselves during the firefight (a few extra points is often the difference in determining who goes to limbo and who gets to fight on).

If you are playing on a large server, FOs can rack up massive kills with AS and arty. Mortars also benefit from large servers as they have a target rich environment. Better yet, get an FO and medic to pair up and they can often control choke points using only SMGs. But while a large server offers a target rich environment, it also means there are alot more bullets flying in your direction.

But the key to killing the enemy quickly is accuracy. I am not a very accurate shooter but I don’t suck either. I try to discipline myself to shoot in short bursts and to aim for the head. This keeps your crosshair small (I use the dot with a circle but the principle is the same) and reduces the amounts of hits you have to land since headshots do more damage than bodyshots.

I’ve played with some good shooters on the public server I frequent (CCM). I’ve seen a number of folks get high kill counts regularly. One guy posted a screenshot of his 126 kill game (only 18 deaths if you are wondering). BTW - he was a medic.
