Why not give players choice at the start of the game? If grind is your priority, have a system designed to allow it. If not, unlock everything so players can choose to load out and play how they want.
Grind?
Basically after a match is over, some kind of pop-up needs to come up rewarding the player with something. This little bell and whistle would definitely add some legs to Brink. How I’d do it: The answer is in my Sig.
Yet you are clearly and undeniably in a minority in loving the game and I say that will zero sarcasm or malice. I’ve said this too many time probably but Brink seems to be a game torn between two priorities and as such manages to do neither exceptionally well.
Oh and IMO Grind is the gaming equivalent of beer goggles.
I’d imagine the former group would be up in arms about the latter undermining the perceived value of their rewards even if they were different modes.
I guess I’m in that minority group as well then. That’s not to say I don’t think BRINK could use some tweaking here & some tweaking there tho. BRINK is not perfect but I do love it.
I am in that minority group as well. Not a perfect game: but at the same time, one of the better I’ve played in a long time. Anything added to Brink for unlocks would further add legs to the experience in my book.

So your saying Grind is epic then?
No, in the face of obstinate sarcasm I chose to make a literal observation rather than respond in a similarly sarcastic manner.
People on the internet lack tact and basic politeness…
Observation or not, it’s an insult. = /

I would hardly call that insulting…
Particularly when you read b/w the lines :pun intended: and see that the post was directed at someone who clearly understood what sockdog said.
kthxbi

Minority? Perhaps on a global scale, but here on SD I think I can safely say the majority at least like this game. It’s just that the negative feedback get’s more focus because if we posted the love for Brink, we would be receiving replies like: “Thanks for sharing, now GTFO and stop wasting thread space, fanboi.”
Another good point you make about the game being torn between 2 priorities (stop making sense, Sock, you are making this harder). This game, overall, only came halfway to completing both sides of the experience. But it was still a step in the right direction and can be perfected with another stab at the franchise.
Bring on the freakin beer goggles, I say! You are confusing these things with something bad! How else do incredibly undesirable game developers get laid?
Not really, it’s same deal for people who are branded haters when they don’t explain why they dislike the game, back your stuff up and no one can really tell you to GTFO, same for the other side of the fence. Telling people the game is great and leaving it at that does scream of fanboism as much as saying the game is bad and leaving it at that screams of hateism.
Yeah, they should get another shot but I suspect next time they will be a bit more conservative in their approach.
And here’s why we’re having this discussion, not everyone likes this sort of stuff when it starts interfering with the game experience which for me it has amongst other things which led me to uninstall the game, something I though I’d never do 3 months after release considering I still have ET and ET:QW installed…
No, it’s just that wearing beer goggles is hilarious.
I got your post, just messing with you.
And can we please stop the insults?
Let’s all eat some cheesecake and be happy.
The global scale is really what’s at issue in regards to the wider topic. With regards to this forum, despite what the cheerleaders may make out the disgruntled people either say their piece and leave or continue to post largely constructive topics of discussion (like this one) in the hope that SD’s next game doesn’t end up like Brink, that is unplayed by a majority.

But you understand that for many people this is the fourth stab at the wider franchise? Yet due to this side step into mainstream grind appeal (which lets face it failed for both sides) in many people’s eyes it took a step back from previous games. People speak of it being a good foundation, that we should be positive, we said this about ETQW compared to W:ET and Brink compared to ETQW.

Now now, don’t make me say something mean and upset the sensitive people in this thread, again.

Actually, I think that may be the point right there. This is the FOURTH stab for you long-timers. For myself and a LARGE group here, it’s the FIRST. You see, I never bothered to look into W: ET and ET: QW because I always associated them with franchises that I never got into. (except the first Wolfenstein, but a neighbor owned that. not me).
But Brink gained my attention by the very first promo video I saw on Xbox Live a couple of years ago. I’d never even heard of SD, but this game looked to me to be the one to change FPSs forever.
WRONG.
What I thought would be a Sandbox Exploration Adventure in the form of a FPS turned out to be a short episodic shooter with objectives at the heart and rewarded teamplay. But this was still new to me and I enjoyed it…because this was my FIRST STAB at this gamestyle.
As for the long-timers, your expectations were high from a different perspective. You had something to compare it to. And it has obviously not lived up to SD history for you.
So I pose 2 questions to the long-timers: Would you be willing to give a Brink 2 a go? And would the Badge, Medal & Unlock (cosmetic and/or superficial only) Grind be a deal-breaker for you?
