(_Wizard_) #1

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I am proud to announce the GG Tournament 2013!!! This will be a 4v4 double-elimination tournament open to both NA and EU teams to begin May 13, 2013. In order to encourage friendly competition and foster community, we want this to be a large event, complete with many teams, a large map pool, brackets, officials, and cash prizes!

This thread will serve as the official point of announcements on the Splash Damage forums, pending a formal tournament website (to be posted here later). All questions can be addressed here, or via e-mail at ggtournament2013@gmail.com.

So without further ado, THE RULES! (Also conveniently located hereas a PDF document.)

THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR A TEAM:

Style

  1. The nature of this competition shall be a 4v4 double elimination tournament. This means that a team must lose two times in order to be officially removed from the tournament.
    a. The first loss shall place a team from the Top Bracket into the Lower Bracket. The winner of the Top Bracket shall play the winner of the Lower Bracket for 1st place (and again if it is the Top Bracket winner’s first loss).
    b. See http://www.printyourbrackets.com/fillable-brackets/8-team-double-fillable.pdf for an example double elimination bracket.
  2. The tournament’s Top Bracket shall be randomly generated so as not to “seed” any teams. This includes any bye games.
    a. A bye game is defined as an automatic progression to the subsequent round, given to any team that does not have a scheduled opponent for the current round.
  3. Brackets shall be updated on a weekly basis (see Match Scheduling for more information).

i. $245.00 USD

ii. $155.00 USD

iii. Dirty Bomb Elite Packs for the entire team

b. The tournament champion shall select their prize package first, the runner-up team shall select their prize package second, and the 3rd place team shall receive the remaining prize package.

i. Prize packages cannot be mixed-and-matched (e.g. you cannot select a partial cash prize and a partial Dirty Bomb prize); prizes will be awarded as a total package.

  1. The team receiving the monetary prize must provide a valid active PayPal address for the money to be transferred to.
  2. Teams are responsible for distributing the winnings amongst themselves.

Game Type

  1. The games shall be played in stopwatch mode.
  2. Round 1: Team A shall choose a map, a server, and whether or not to attack or defend first; this constitutes a round half. Team B shall then attempt to set a lower time or defend for a higher time on that server; this constitutes the end of Round 1. The winner of the round is the team to successfully set the lowest time on the map, and is awarded 2 points.
    a. A tie occurs if neither team is able to successfully win the map in 20 minutes; both teams are awarded 1 point apiece.
  3. Round 2: Team B shall choose a map, a server, and whether or not to attack or defend first; this constitutes a round half. Team A shall then attempt to set a lower time or defend for a higher time on that server; this constitutes the end of Round 2. The winner of the round is the team to successfully set the lowest time on the map, and is awarded 2 points.
    a. A tie occurs if neither team is able to successfully win the map in 20 minutes; both teams are awarded 1 point apiece.
  4. At the end of 2 rounds, the team with the most points wins the matchup.
    a. If both teams have equal points at the end of both rounds, a third tie-breaking map shall be played.

i. A server coin flip shall determine map and server selection. Team A shall call the coin flip. The winning team of the coin flip will choose EITHER the map (including attack first or defense first), or the server location. The losing team of the coin flip shall choose the alternate (either map, or server location).

ii. The tiebreaker map cannot be the same as one of maps just played.

b. If another tie occurs, teams shall continue playing tie-breakers until one team leads in points.
5. If there are any disputes over tournament rules at any time during a match, the match MUST BE PAUSED and the dispute must made known at that time. Do not continue the match and then complain that someone was breaking a rule. If a rule violation is not brought up at the time it occurs, it will be disregarded.
6. Maps must be played in the order of the objectives presented. No objectives may be skipped due to a map exploit (such as making a human/Supply Crate tower to climb over a wall to plant on a future objective).
7. In the event that the server crashes as the final objective is about to finish (plant, data disc transfer, what have you), it counts as an offensive victory.

Match Scheduling

  1. Each tournament round has one week to take place, starting May 13, 2013.
  2. The bracket for each week shall be posted no later than 15:00 GMT Monday.
  3. Teams shall then have the time between when brackets are posted to until 23:59 GMT Wednesday to come to a mutual agreement on when to play.
    a. Match times must be reported to ggtournament2013@gmail.com by both teams so that an official may be present during the scheduled match.

i. If a match time is not reported by 23:59 GMT Wednesday, the officials shall administratively set a time for the matchup, and shall report that time to both teams no later than 15:00 GMT on Thursday.

ii. All scheduled match times must be e-mailed to ggtournament2013@gmail.com at least 24 hours in advance of the game. This ensures that the admins have enough time to determine who will officiate the match, and for shoutcasters to be present during the game.

  1. Each week’s matchups shall be concluded and the results shall be reported to the official e-mail address by 23:59 GMT Sunday.
    a. It is the responsibility of BOTH teams and the official to report the score.
  2. The officials shall then update the brackets and post the following week’s matchups no later than 15:00 GMT Monday.
  3. A forfeit shall occur if a team cannot field a team of 4 from their roster at the scheduled match time.
    a. Teams have exactly 1 hour from the start of the matchup time (as determined by the presiding official) to have 4 registered team members on the server.

i. Additional waiting time shall be left to the discretion of the official.

b. If neither team has a full set of players, the team with the most players wins.
c. If both teams have equal number of players, the present players shall play the match.

    a. A demo must be provided for all appeals.

Scrimmages

  1. Friendly scrimmages may be played at any time on competition servers.

  2. Each team must hold each other and the officials accountable to follow the competition rules.
  3. The rules are subject to official interpretation.
    a. It is important to follow both the letter and the spirit of the rules. The rules are here to permit an intense and fun competitive environment.
  4. The prize pool is for minimal value and is meant to encourage friendly competition, not aggressive attitudes. This competition is held to have fun, foster community, and play our beloved game of QW. Conduct and play yourselves accordingly.
