Im all for it and will be looking for a team. Are you sure about the custom maps havent even heard of half of the maps you have listed. Dont even have a clue where to get them
GG Tournament 2013
As Khamul said, the maps are all on Nirvana if you want to download them from there to practice online or against the computer. The plan is to make sure that all the tournament servers are pre-loaded with the maps, so as long as you’ve connected to Nirvana before, you won’t have any new downloads.
We made sure to limit the map pool to the custom maps that are the least glitchy, even removing favorites like Comm Link because GDF supply crates don’t work. The custom maps in the pool are fully-functional and proven, as we’ve been playing all of them for years in the TAW internal tournaments without a problem.
I believe we might be switching out siwa oasis for the latest version of night raid. The one on nirvana doesn’t require a boat run. The 4v4 config has no vehicles so a boat run would have turned into a swim run which is why we exclude that map initially.
Awesome unexpected news!
First of all I have to say that hardly anyone is reading this section anymore, because it’s kinda dead. You should ask badman to move the whole thread to the General Discussion.
By the way, you can also post the whole text in just 1 post.
The last time money was involved was back in 2008, I’m really surprised and at the same time I hope this will attract as many teams as possible!
However I got some questions about the rules:
Registration
3. Registration is open to all. No teams or players are forbidden from registering.
What about busted and well known cheaters?
Maps
- Only maps from the official list may be selected for play in the tournament.
- Maps shall be declared on the day of the competition. No announcement of map selection before the scheduled matchup is necessary.
So the maps are set by the admins right? (I prefer this)
3. The map pool for the GG Tournament 2013 consists of the following vanilla and custom maps:
a. Area 22
b. Island
c. Refinery
d. Salvage
e. Sewer
f. The Ark
g. Volcano
h. Canal
i. Glory of the Weak
j. Maridia
k. Meltdown
l. Night Raid (ATW3)
m. Steedium Mines
n. The Tower
I think it’s really necessary to change the map pool, as the newer player base is afraid of custom maps anyway and so it could discourage many teams. Furthermore not all maps are suitable for comp play. Let me go into detail: (I just list the maps which should be changed)
c. Refinery
Just a question here, you mean the “skip MCP” version, right?
f. The Ark
Got 2 (!) fullhold stages, it’s incredible difficult to complete this map. There was a reason why Ark was taken out of the 4on4 map pool back then.
h. Canal
Not sure about this map, has never proven itself in comp play.
i. Glory of the Weak
??? Never heard of this map before.
l. Night Raid (ATW3)
??? Never heard of this map before.
n. The Tower
A very large map, never got played anywhere in comp.
Radar
You added so many custom maps, but you seriously forgot the best custom comp map?
Comm Link
Was one of the first custom maps played in comp.
A fast map which would be perfect for 4on4, furthermore it’s easy to learn and known by most players.
I would like to see it!
Servers
3. Servers shall be pre-loaded with the appropriate server config and all maps in the map pool before the tournament begins.
a. A list of NA and EU servers (including IP addresses) running the tournament config and maps shall be provided prior to the start of the tournament.
So do you provide servers for both regions?
Is a server with the required config allowed if it got only the default maps? (As our server has)
I skipped reading this part, sorry! So just usual CB rules?
And the flip coin method about the server is good!
Match Scheduling
- Teams shall then have the time between when brackets are posted to until 23:59 GMT Wednesday to come to a mutual agreement on when to play.
a. Match times must be reported to ggtournament2013@gmail.com by both teams so that an official may be present during the scheduled match.
i. If a match time is not reported by 23:59 GMT Wednesday, the officials shall administratively set a time for the matchup, and shall report that time to both teams no later than 15:00 GMT on Thursday.
Wouldn’t it be much easier to set up an IRC channel for the whole cup, instead of emailing? As you could provide fast help there.
My last question: Do the cup admins also play? There could be always the problem if they are biased towards certain teams or even his own team.
If you need any help with the cup, I’m up to support!
Looking forward to it!
Coin toss you say?
HEADS!!!
NO TAILS! TAILS NEVER FAILS except when it does
Hey Rex thanks for the input! Let me try and address some of your questions/concerns. (Doing this on my phone so sorry if formatting is bad)
- If they are known and caught cheaters they can be excluded. What we meant by “open to everyone” was more that it isn’t just for clans and pick up teams are acceptable.
- The map pool is set by admins. The map that is to be played for the match is set by the team.
Before talking about the maps let me say that TAW has played these maps quite often so wizard and I are familiar with them. However that’s on an 8v8+ scale so play could be different for 4v4.
3a. Yes skip MCP on refinery. There are no MCP maps.
3b. Has canal been in many other 4v4 tournaments? It’s an infantry focused map that I think could be suitable.
3c. Glory is a slightly newer map but has been on nirvana for awhile an isn’t too hard to learn. Night raid I thought has been aroun for awhile and should be just fine for a 4v4.
3d. Tower is a bigger map but objectives two and three are still infantry focused with obj 1 having a slightly longer run. Still though I think it could work.
3e. Radar was omitted for the explicit reason that it caused a lot of controversy during one of our match nights. The argument was between of you were allowed to transmit the UPS objectives BEFORE completing obj 1. We wanted to avoid any such potential issues and left it out entirely.
3f. Comm link was left out because it has a known bug. If a newer version exists we can use that one an that would be fine? Supply crates don’t work on the map and a large plane shows up in the middle of the playing field on objective one. If a version has thy fixed we’ll be more than happy to add that in. - We are in the current process of finding official servers for both the NA and EU sides. I you’re offering use of your server, we accept :D. But to answer your question. Only official servers will be used. Or at the discretion of the officials.
- I don’t think wizard nor I use IIRC which is why we prefer email. But the email will be especially used for letting the officials know of match schedules and other official things. An iirc channel can be setup though, we just prefer email.
- Yes admin officials can play on a team. But I understand your concern, especially when money is involved. There will be multiple officials. So an admin playing will have no say in rulings of anything that had to do with their team. An unbiased (hopefully) official will referee maps that have other admins playing on it. Besides that, we can just hold each other accountable and go off of a little trust.
Everything else I skipped I’ll talk to wizard tonight to discuss the points you brought up. Thanks for the feedback.
First of all, sorry for not posting it as one giant post, I thought using multiple posts would help visually separate the sections easier. :o
You could help us out on this end, because I’m not sure who the cheaters are. I wasn’t aware of anyone that still plays that is a known cheat, we typically don’t have that problem on the NA side.
The idea is to have a map pool of pre-approved maps. Teams can then decide which map they want to pick out of the pool to play their match on. No maps outside of the map pool will be allowed, but the team has the freedom to select their map every round. They can choose to play the same maps every single time, if they wish.
Because there is a general pool and not assigned maps, the 7 vanilla maps and 7 custom maps provides teams with plenty of variety to choose from. If a team is uncomfortable playing custom maps, they can always choose to play a vanilla map for their attack, but they should also be prepared for the custom maps in case their opponent chooses it. We want to reward the teams with the best map knowledge, and that includes the custom content our community works so hard to put out.
To clarify on some of your map questions, all maps are the Competition Mode maps, like skip MCP on Refinery and no flyer drone objective on Volcano. The custom maps we chose are the ones proven after circulating for many internal seasons in TAW. They are well-balanced offensively and defensively, have limited (if any) known glitches, and provide plenty of variety for the tournament. As far as Radar and Comm Link being excluded, it’s just as Nemesis said…we had an issue with doing objectives out of order on Radar, and Comm Link does not allow GDF to deploy med crates, so we don’t want to influence any team’s strategy based on a map’s limitations.
I would love to sit down with you and discuss what maps you think should be included/excluded from the map pool. We have until registration officially opens to fine-tune these details!
Both NA and EU servers will be provided (hopefully at least 2 on each side), although it’s not finalized who’s providing servers; I will give an update later. As far as using a server with a config but not all the maps is concerned, we’ll need to discuss that further. My opinion would be that it’s fine, since you choose what server to play your map on; a team would only pick a server that they know has their map on it.
I’ve never used IRC before, but I’ll certainly look into that!
Cup admins can play, but there has to be a different admin officiating their match. For example, if I’m an admin and I’m playing on a team, I can’t simultaneously be that match’s official, someone else would referee that game. You should be an admin on the EU side! We need all the help we can get!

Oki doki!
For the map related things, I could also join your TS tomorrow to discuss this with you if you like to. Just send me the ip/pw via pm.
Hello, I juste read your mail Wizard. As Rex said it sounds sweet. Unfortunatly, as it is now, I am afraid not to be able to help you guys, as you asked me to, because I will be in an exam period the first part of May, though if it is just about playing I should be able to make it, just need to put all my gays together.
Regarding the website we had for FTML, I made it all in html, it was a very simple thing, but if I had to do it again now I would need to learn everything again which would take me too much time. As long as I know, some guys like onYn and stuff are real webmasters, you should ask them.
Even if I have no illusions about what ET:QW is now, it will be fun to play the game !
You can make a very nice website in a minute with tourney.cc (http://www.tourney.cc/) you should take a look at it Wizard.
And I have a team up for this cup, if any team want to train, send me a message @ #bitach (IRC) or femtek.games@gmail.com, or in-game rUBBEN
