GDF or ADF? [voice accents]

(jjpron) #1

In Wolf ET, the allies all spoke American english, will that be the case in QW?
Does it even matter?
I thought it would add a bit of a diversity and maybe provide medics with audio clues of who’s hurt and whatnot.

well its a problem if you give everyone shared global and class specific vsays because ppl start speeking in incosistent accents

if you give every player there own vsays your going run into problem very soon regarding memory. i doubt SD could justify the extra strain on minimum requiremnts to have so many vsay voices

(Joe999) #3

i’m curious if the vsays will be as entertaining as in ET. nothing beats the axis “attaaaack” … well, maybe the gay “i’m a soldat”

(Sauron|EFG) #4

Maybe they could use speech synthesis, then everyone could tweak their accent.

(kamikazee) #5

My favourites are still the German “Oopsl!” and the newsreader for the official maps. (Especially on Railgun)

(jjpron) #6

I guess having different voices could be somewhat confusing, but it would add to the whole G aspect of the GDF.

“attaaack!” is awesome. I hope SD can get away with a couple more funny gems like that again.

(Gringo) #7

Yeah, lets have the accents in northern irish ftw.

The axis “attaaack” is class. The best map voice’s gotta be the ones on carnage canyon.

(GDF: Attaaack!)
(Strog: Gahrenl!)

They did it with BF2 and the MEC, they can do it with ET:QW and Strog.

EDIT: I wonder if SD has the voices for the Strog done yet? They should have the community come up with ‘stroggy’ sounds to use as the different voice macros.

(Nail) #9

and get Chewbacca to do them

What about having something in the game that will lead to translated the vsays, like a stolen radio will allow the GDF to intercept and understand strogg comm. …(if they aren’t english/etc.).

Or if a destroyed radio/comm. tower leads to a loudspeaker giving the commands over the hills…

I know those thoughts are short-handed…but the ideas are genuine.

I suspect they will leave it ‘as it is’. They probably use american accents to have easier entry into american market. They say Americans are (more than usual) biased against foreign, or foreign sounding products. That explains a lot, for example why Nokia changed its name to lame Orange.

As for Strogg… If I remember correctly, original RTCW german voice chats were german, so there was an opporunity to follow that and still use german. But no, it would be unthinkable to have something truly foreign.

I have no illusions about this side of ET:QW - it will be ADF and funny-speaking english Strogg.

(Joe999) #12

let’s just say the strogg are stroggified germans and keep the axis voices

(ParanoiD) #13

^^ Jahahaa!

(Ragnar_40k) #14

I bet you can make your own Strog-vsay-mod if you don’t like the original ones.

(EB) #15

Your non-illusion is an illusion itself. Unless you know exactly how it is going to be…then you are, sort-of, obligated to share. :moo: :moo: :nag:

(Bongoboy) #16

You mean to say anyone actually listened to those Map Briefings?

*glumly hands over tenner to Wils

(Joe999) #17

listened? on TS everyone was yelling gooooooooooooooooooooold with the announcer

(Floris) #18

Yes people listened, altrough I was first introduced to the news reader when doing !news on a shrub server, I later found out that you could also play the news from the limbo menu

(ayatollah) #19

Listened to them, some of us made tunes with them in!

One Hard Day at the Oasis

(Danyboy) #20
