Garand is so goddamn worthless it makes me cry.

(Ranstaton) #1

I cannot stand the garand. I avoid playing allies just because the engineer and covert ops get this weapon. Why wasn’t this made equal to the k43? It seems silly to have all the other weapons exactly the same but leaving these two horribly imbalanced.

ARGARGARGARG!!!

(Cyber-Knight) #2

yeah I agree.
Although, I still use the Garand as a covert most of the time, the other covert weapons aren’t as appealing.

But there have been many times I’ve lost a firefight cuz I had half a clip in my rifle.

(amazinglarry) #3

Yea the garand is crap… but you know you’re still able to use a thompson as an allied engineer… I personally can’t stand rifle grenades etc… they drive me fucking crazy.

The few times I’ve played covert ops and whatever the K43 is definetly my first pick and for obvious reasons.

I like your new Avatar btw… definetly kick ass.

(Eyes of Texas) #4

This is SO true. Mp40 and Thompson are exactly alike as far as rpm, damage, and magazine size. I know that SD was trying to keep it authentic, but the balance is WAY off between Garand and K43. If they don’t fix it, they could at least give us a ‘ping’ sound when the Garand clip pops out so we know what’s up. :bash:

(digibob) #5

Fallout owns.

As for the garand, if you’re low on ammo in your clip, just fire off the remaining rounds. I’m not even going to try to go into the reasons why those guns are different…

(Ranstaton) #6

I also can’t stand rifle grenades, mainly because they waste the energy bar, but I really like the rifle for close up fights. I just love blasting all the rounds off at the enemy before he has enough time to fire off his smg…

and I <3 fallout also :stuck_out_tongue:

(amazinglarry) #7

Point is everything else is the same… but the k43 and garand.

There’s a difference between runnin around with 3 shots in your garand as opposed to it being full (I dont’ even know because I don’t use it enough) So rippin out the 3 rounds is kind of a pain when you can simply just hit reload. Especially if you run into an enemy as you’re emptying those 3 rounds, and you only hit with 1… then you gotta reload…

It’s just more beneficial to enter a firefight with a full clip… reloading in the middle of one = almost certain death.

Just an annoyance to me… but whatever works. :drink:

GO BRUINS!

(damocles) #8

Fallout 2 owned more

Let’s see if they can completely destroy our fond memories of fallout with fallout3 and/or fallout3D.

(Cyber-Knight) #9

That’s a freaking pain. Not only do you have WASTE rounds so you can reload, the Garand has a smaller clip of 8 to the K43’s 10. The Garand should be given like 2 more clips to make it even (at least 1 anyways)

cuz ammo distribution works out to be:

K43: 10/30 (3) 10/40 (4)
Garand: 8/24 (3) 8/32 (4) 8/40 (5)

of course, 5 doesn’t exist, but it should so the two weapons can at least have the same amount of maximum ammo.

reloading in this game is unrealistic anyways. I mean, how can someone:
-remove magazine from weapon
-insert additional bullets into the magazine so it is full (while wearing gloves might I add)
-insert the magazine back into the weapon
-activate the bolt catch (or cocking mechanism)

in a span of less than 5 seconds?

Real soldiers carried loaded magazines, not bulk ammo. Most military rifles weapons with a fixed mag were loaded from a ‘stripper clip’.

The stripper clip holds a complete load of ammo, and is inserted with them into the mag. Then it is pulled out, leaving the ammo behind. The garand system was even simpler, since the stripper clip stayed in the gun until empty, and was then auto-ejected.

Changing a loaded mag in a couple of seconds is not unrealistic. Where ET gets it wrong is letting you somehow turn serveral partially unloaded mags into one full one.

ET was never meant to be a realism game though, so that is all rather pointless.

(Cyber-Knight) #11

exactly what I’m trying to say. You could fire one round and reload 60 times, is he carrying 60 magazines? obviously not, so he must’ve put more bullets into the same magazine.

right on, so I why should the Garand be realistic then?

and correct me if I’m wrong, the Colt M1911A1 had a magazine capacity of 7, not 8. (unless you count the round inside the chamber)

Luger’s magazine capacity was 8 (and you can put an extra one in the chamber for 9)

(Warskull) #12

Just let the Garand reload mid clip and either up its attack power a little or give it those two extra bullets. It is less realistic, but more balanced. This game is more about gameplay than balance anyway.

(Eddie1989) #13

In my mouse-using arm, the Garand is a real threat, the k43 not. Except as a Covert, things go vice-versa.

(Wraith2k3) #14

In my mouse-using arm, the Garand is a real threat, the k43 not.

How is this? The garand doesn’t have a single advantage over the k43.

(Eddie1989) #15

I don’t know why, but the sounds make difference in my HANDS

(Sauron|EFG) #16

Really? I can understand that you don’t like the Garand, but isn’t it better to just avoid playing allied CovOps and use the Thompson when playing engie?

(Loffy) #17

Agree. When I play clanwar, I usually play engi. I have the Thompson/MG42 as my gun.
I did try the other weapon, sniper, because some said it had a hard hit. It could be used in un-scoped fashion, in duels, they said. Well, I never got the hang of it. Went immideately back to T and MG42. Real guns!

Bought a new car by the way.

A true Axis car, Volkswagen (Golf)! Jawohl!
Windows bullet proof? Dunno.
Im disappointed: Stood near car, and tried to press Action key. To mount machinegun, á la tank, but failed! Need certain cvar setting?

Man, I hate n00bs who don’t even know how to use the car!
callvote kick loffy

(Boeiend) #20

since when is sd rating realism over gameplay??

who cares if the garand couldnt really reload, it really affects the gameplay if it cant!!!
