I would as well. Would be a nice test because I don’t want to be unfair towards Bethesda either.
free DLC - too little too late?
I think Bethesda just took on too much this year and doesn’t have enough to go around, especially with Fallout already out and Skyrim on the way, poor SD is getting brushed off.
Everyone can blame Bethesda all they want, but you have to admit that SD chose to kill off a lot of great content from their previous titles in the attempt to reduce the challenge and please those who complain about everything. A polished Brink would still be less of a game. Stick with what works and add to it, don’t cut when the “innovation” is directed towards a console learning curve. I feel like someone overlooked the part where a HUGE part of re-playability in objective based games also comes from wanting to perpetually improve one’s skill to play the game in all it’s diversity. I saw no reason to tilt the balance of ET games for Brink, they already had it right. Gah, all those ‘single button games of the future’ jokes are becoming a reality…
To answer the OP…
If the DLC comes bundled with a big patch, all can be saved. If all we get is the announced DLC, things will end badly, as giving lots of people the chance to lag, graphics-pop and get OHK’ed by uberbots on 2 new maps (whilst dressed as a Bobby and sporting a bayonet) won’t be a massive comfort to the disillusioned.
Alas, the game was mortally wounded by week three. The lag patch was simply too late. SD was just too slow. But there are a whole bunch of other issues. Too many to count, really. It needed another year which meant it probably passed Bestheda’s QA team with flying colors.
I think SD knew they were screwed but instead of running from the grenade, they jumped on top of it. That takes balls. Still, Paul Wedgwood probably cries himself to sleep every night.
Better luck next time, SD. I’ll see the rest of you in Battlefield 3.

The SD original SD guys are real gamers. I’m assuming this is not the type of product they find acceptable, but when the pimp tells you your ready then you have no other choice.
I’d say it’s a little late. I’m starting to play with the same 10 players, so yeah, the community has gone down. However, when the DLC comes out, I think people will want to come back and check it out, but if most people are like my friend, they’ll just play it for a while, and just get bored again.
I think if the DLC comes out, and about 2 weeks later, more DLC is announced for a very near future release, or they keep pushing out DLC there will be more replay value to the game, despite there not being enough at the “core”.
brink needs a overhaul patch for the PC, DLC won’t cut it.
the interface/ui/moveclips, etc are just so useless it only interferes with actually playing the game, and talking to other players feeling like a community.
if they don’t release a patch that changes interface, etc such as:
removing XP gain at the end of patch- we should be texting to other players
servers with option to disable movie clips
first person spectating, and spectator slots
more cvars/options for server customizations
client cvar customizations for config
SDK
brink will collect dust. still can’t believe we still have thirdperson spectating, makes it so
obvious this was made for consoles
This game needs a free weekend on Steam along with a considerable price drop.
The DLC alone isn’t going to achieve much.
Those of you expecting an overhaul of the game need to come back to reality. I wouldn’t expect to see much after this fabled DLC comes out. A hot fix or two, maybe. Don’t expect anything more though.
What will you do if Splash Damage changes publisher and makes another game with serious issues ? Will you be looking to blame the publisher ? Maybe Splash Damage are simply not as good as they think ? So far, every game where they made their own engine was a failure. They only did well with Q3F and W:ET which were mods. There’s no proof Splash Damage are competent in technical (more low-level) matters.
bethesda does things for money. You think sd will support a dead game for “passion”?
probably you don’t know how marketing works
Pratically its a multiplayer only. You know how many peeps play it with stats
fanboys…
the problem here is that bethesda thinks that problems can be fixed increasing the advertising and not fixing the real problems…
I’m not sure it’s the technical level, they have very talented and proven people working there. I’d look more at the production and management of the development as being the issue. I honestly had hoped the mass hiring they did for Brink would have corrected this but it seems there’s still an underlying influence which leaves the finished product feeling a little disjointed and incomplete.
I’m not sure how chummy developers are but If I was SD I’d be reaching out to (or hiring) people like RNorth or Valve and seeing if there was a way of learning how they produce their games and apply the polish. I believe Flawe actually left to go work at R.
ummm, what pc player wanted matchmaking in brink? one sigh of relief i can always fall back on is that brink didnt use games for windows live. for that reason alone i pile on another booting of the game throughout the week.
given the smart system (that’s kinda technical) etqw and art design (including sound, duh) id say splash damage are as good as us fans think. i’ve played with the smart system as much as a server admin can with cvars and this game is BEGGING for sdk (not even that!). what is painful and suspect is the extra year brink needed to develop properly was stolen by etqw in 2006.
idk, im just a pub player and i’ve said my peace so much already.
Meanwhile in Natural Selection 2 open beta…
Player-made map has been accepted and officially included in the game. Players are recording long gameplay videos (not trailers from marketing department).
Since I bought Brink, I also reinstalled ETQW for a few games.
but lately, the grenade and the way they work compared to Brink made me rage-quit QW :(
Kalbuth for some reason is scared of grenades
Well, I am scared of some insects for example, so it is okay - everyone has his own bugs
Dom, haven’t you promised us that you’ll play the game for the next yeah in the interview combo with St00pid?
They didn’t kill of a lot of content, they just plastered a lot on top of it. Oh well yeah maybe that’s what killed it off after all. But I agree. It was a big concern before it was released, I hoped it didn’t go that way, but now it’s just obvious that the PC is stuck with console gameplay.
There’s no way both the console as well as the pc version can have the same set of features and parameters and function well.
