For what purpose would a Covert Op choose FG42 over Sten or K43 ? The FG42 has terrible bullet spread, it’s loud, and can’t fire continously when scoped. It has a faster fire rate, but it gives less damage to the body than the Sten. Basically it consumes ammo like popcorn, but very few of the bullets hit anything, giving less damage.
FG42
It works at close range, and you can snipe with it. Personally, I can’t stand it, but some people like it. I always take either sten or K43 (Garand sucks). The sten is surprisingly accurate at medium range. I find it to be the best SMG. And the K43 is a great rifle. Why is it that axis gets this great rifle, and allies get that pile of crap? Garand has a smaller clip, and you can’t reload. I don’t know whether or not it’s more powerful, but in the hands of a good sniper, it doesn’t matter, since a headshot is a headshot with a scoped rifle.
I find the Sten difficult to use…not sure why, it just doesn’t feel like it packs a punch and it seems less accurate.
Yeah, I dont really like the FG42. I see a lot of cvops using it, though. I remember back in depottest there were a lot more K43 users. Still not many sten users though. I have a question, how much damage does an FG42 unscoped headshot do?
I only use k43. All other guns just aren’t nearly as good. For the FG42 if they increased the damage automatic fire did and reduced the recoil/shakiness when sniping, so that you can get off enough shots to be roughly equivalent to the amount of damage you might do with k43 in the same amount of time, it might be useable. But right now it doesn’t allow you to as much damage as the k43 in the same amount of time, it’s noisy, innacurate in automatic, you don’t get nearl as many clips as you need and the clip itself is too small.
So they need to make it good in some area because right now it is shit in all of them. The sten is excellent at auto-fire although not as good as the mp40/thompson due to the overheating. The K43 is awesome at long range and can do quite well in close range due to its power. But the FG42, is okay at best in close combat, sucks at sniping and isn’t powerfull enough to be used to execute enemies.
the FG42 does have a high rate of fire. Though, i often find myself running out of ammo very quickly.
I usually use the Sten. but sometimes I will use the FG42 when I have a feeling I may be doing some sniping. an example would be Fuel Dump, beginning of the match, on the Allied side. I’ll need some automatic fire if I’m gonna do some fighting in the tunnels. But I may also decide to snipe some Axis that are on the hill and MG42 tower before doing some assaulting.
I have very bad experience with the K43/Garand. Maybe it’s due to P3-450MHz I’m running on. on some servers, I can snipe great and give great results. but on many servers, I’ll miss like all my shots on a stationary, standing target, where I’m aiming for the body, not the head.
So I usually just stick with what works in any server, close combat, so I go with Sten. (or the knife.
)
I kill very quickly with the FG42. One clip with it and, at close quarters, I can take out three guys before I have to reload. It fires so fast that all it takes is about a half second per person.
It’s really my favorite gun. At close quarters the high rate of fire means I will probably kill the other guy before he has a chance to kill me, meaning I get to take his uniform and cause yet more havoc. From a distance it’s wildly inaccurate, until I switch over to scoped mode and snipe a guy with a few fairly easily placed shots.
The FG42 is my gun of choice when I play covert ops because I can do pretty much all I need to with it. It kills fast and it kills easy, if you know how to use it. Just make sure you’re aiming for the head and you can take a guy down incredibly quickly.
I only use the FG42 when playing Covert Ops. Sniping at long range, avoiding the enemy at mid range and killing the enemy with full auto at close range. The only drawback is the small 20 bulltets magazin: if you cant kill the enemy with the first 20 shots then your mostly dead.
I use the FG42 all the time when I play Covert Ops. Its great if you are close to the enemy with the ROF. While sniping (scoped) it doesn’t have the recoil and it allows one to get 2 to 3 shots off very quickly. I will admit the spread on it unscoped does suck and it does seem to go through ammo very quickly but its managable. Only gun I use now when I go Covert Ops its the best of both the sten and the silent sniper rifles.

I really hate that piece of crap. When i fire a gun, i expect the bullets to go in the general direction of where i am pointing. The FG42 seems to have dificulty with these generally excepted guidlines. Its abysamally innacurate, which i hate, because my mouse is always on someones head. The sten is great for my style, however, it is true that it damages less. (40 per headshot, vs. 50 for an mp-40) The sniping mode of the FG42 is… sad to say the least. 30 damage per headshot??? with recoil??? If i wanna snipe, ill use a powerful rifle, not this child’s toy.
FG42= People who cant aim when someone is standing directly in front of them.

“FG42= People who cant aim when someone is standing directly in front of them.”
It’s a heavy weapon, try crouching and shooting helps stabilize aim, just like rtcw, it’s one of the best cov-ops weapons, the snipe fuctions is best for people walking or behind machinegun, it has a accurate aim without recoil, i kill a lot with htis weap. so crouch and aim, and i mostly shoot them in the back so no prob missing…
FG42 is the worst weapon in the game
people only use it cuz it’s scoped… and it sucks as a sniper rifle too
As far as I could tell crouching while unscoped doesn’t help it’s spread at all. If you don’t believe, try for yourself, looking at wallmarks or using g_debugbullets.
OTOH, for those of us who aren’t sten monkies like koro, it makes a decent spray & pray weapon, and also lets you snipe.

Crouching helps the spread just a little, but remember that you can’t crouch much from close range while the other guy with a Thompson/Mp40/Sten/Garand can pop you in the head while strafing around you.
In RTCW, Sten was a piece of crap because of its premature overheat, and I am glad that they improved it in ET (it shoots slower, so you can get 16 bullets out before it overheats instead of just 12, and you can gib with 3 bullets), but once again a weapon is useless in the game. It is just weird that the other two options (Sten/K43) are about aim and stealth, while this useless beast is about loud spray. It doesn’t even fit that class. Nice to see people share my sentiments.
The reason the allies get the garand, is that was the standard issue service rifle of the era for the U.S. forces.
General Douglas MacArthur reported that “under combat conditions, it operated with no mechanical defects… and it has been in almost constant action for as much as a week without cleaning or lubrication.”
General George S. Patton Jr. said, “In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.”
What is this amazing, highly praised weapon? It is (officially) the U.S. Rifle Cal. .30 M1, although it is most widely known simply as the Garand, after its inventor, John Cantius Garand.
Although the M1 Garand had its deficiencies, there is no question it was one of the greatest infantry rifles of all time. Its popularity is still strong; proof of this can be found at the National Rifle Association National Matches. The Civilian Marksmanship Program’s John C. Garand Match requires the shooters to use only the Garand. This particular match continues to be the most popular event at the National Matches.
The Germans were primarily issued the K98 Mauser, and not the K43. German semi-automatic rifle designs were also surprisingly sub-par at the time. Unfortunately for the Germans, the K43 rifle proved to be substantially over powered for the 7.92x57mm cartridge, and was prone to malfunction. Initial design flaws were never completely rectified before this rifle went into full scale production in late 1943, and the design was continually changed and revised through to the end of hostilities in 1945.
Now, if the garand is a pile of crap, why didnt Germany win the war with the “superior” K43? Just wanted to set you straight on calling John C Garands rifle a “pile of crap”. Thanks.
this is Wolfenstein, not history class.
IRL, the Thompson has a better effective range than the MP40, why does the MP40 have better accuracy in RtCW?
Why use the Garand, when the K43 has a larger clip and can reload anytime you want?
Uhh, the rest of us are talking about a GAME here. Not a realistic game either. The fact is that in ET, the garand has significant disadvantages compared to the K43 and no advantages over it.
In ET, the garand is a pile of crap compared to the k43. The situation might be different in real life, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.
Has anyone tested the garand to make sure it doesn’t do more damage or something? I’ve used it on a few occasions and didn’t seem to have a problem killing with it even with fewer bullets. Which leads me to believe that the damage might be slightly higher while not zoomed in. The damage while zoomed in seems exactly the same though.
Near the end of the clip I usualy will empty it to reload which is a serious pain because I am wasting the small amount of ammo that I have. But the gun is worthless up close if I only kept two shots in it…
