[Feature Request] Report for Harasment/Unsportsmanlike conduct

(Black) #101
Dude, it doesn’t matter if you add a report for “abuse” or “harassment” though. People WILL bother to report for being called a noob or a bad player or told to learn to play, or whatever. You act like just because you’re able to realize that such things aren’t a big deal that everyone will be the same way. That’s not the case.

It is inevitable that once a report system is added, people WILL use it to report for any tiny little slight they perceive. It will become a pointlessly destructive and vindictive system. A lot of people are very insecure and petty like that.

They can add reports for racism or something, because that’s a very particular thing. But just in general “abuse” or “harassment” or whatever, those are extremely broad concepts that vary widely from person to person.

Adding the ability to report for very general concepts like that will lead to a stupid volume of reports over really minor, inconsequential garbage. That is why I am against a report system for such things.

For death threats, racism, hacking, yes. For “harassment” or “chat abuse” or whatever, NO. That stuff is stupid. People need to grow up and get over stupid little things like that.
You are coming again with a ridiculous irrelevant argument.

“We shouldn’t have this report option because it will cause alot of “minor” or “trivial” reports.”

Are you actually listening to yourself?
Like how do you want me to respond to that, it’s the hugest slippery slope fallacy I have every heard.

Firstly, there is no such thing as a “minor” report, there is such thing as a “false” one, but never is a report too “minor”. For example, namecalling is namecalling, no matter what. Call me stupid, its name calling. Just because YOU find it trivial doesn’t mean other players shouldn’t report people for it and it also doesn’t make it minor.

Secondly, any kind of game with a report system has it’s share of false reports, how is Dirty Bomb any different and how is adding another report option going to dramatically increase it which it seems you imply.

Thirdly, at any time a player feels the need to report you means he/her feel uncomfortable playing with you. So it really doesn’t matter the reason. So one who takes the time to report you means they felt like your behavior was bad, and your claiming that if it’s not “significant” enough, they shouldn’t be able to report how the feel because of this small percentage of players who do in fact send out false reports.

You really can’t seem to speak objectively here, this all about you and your feelings towards the game and how players should report others.

The report system is here to improve the players of DB worldwide and you trying to take that option from people who report people for reasons you disagree with.

The real problem with the Internet is everyone does and acts as they please, and there is not a person out there to correct the behavior. Online, you have infinite privileges and immunity to everything.

I think I wouldn’t mind giving up some of my privacy rights in order to help straighten out the shit show that is the Internet.

There should be real life repercussions associated with how you act online. Cheating? Not only should you get banned no questions asked, but that ban should bleed over to other services, not just DB, but to Steam. If YOU as a person are caught doing it on more than one occasion, than they should be real life fines and possibly other measures taken like contacting the individual’s ISP and reporting them. That customer’s service would then be discontinued for X amount of time.

It sucks to think this way, but its because of the garbage trolls and overall shitty people out there that makes this seem like the only viable way to deal with the problem, which is unrealistic for today’s standards.

One day in the far future however… it may be a different story, you may need to login to the internet with something more uniquely tied in to who you are. (like your social security number). That should help keep people in check.

I think this is hands down the second best thing about the internet after information distribution - that information being porn of course. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Those are some perverted Orwellian fantasies you got there, bro.
While we’re going full totalitarian, I suggest we go all the way, and arrange public executions of people who have been caught cheating on multiplayer games.

Is this what browsing tumblr is like?
I mean come on man, what happened to the sticks and stones?
I’d agree that the whole cheating thing going on in Dirty Bomb is annoying but you don’t have to hunt people down for it. Just give them the ban they deserve.

(SnakekillerX) #106

You mean ban them and watch them come back with a dummy account? Right because that’s whats been happening for countless years, and people still cheat as much as they ever did.

I’m not saying we should implement the things I stated, I’m saying that its pretty much the only option at this point to prevent this from continuing because people in general are dicks and will do whatever they please.

It’s a futile struggle because it doesn’t affect people’s “real” life.

don’t see anything wrong with banning people’s steam accounts for cheating in MP games, if the evidence is obviously beyond a reasonable doubt.

On topic:

 • trying to police 12-year old’s language is silly. Games have plenty of 12-year olds.
 • Mute should finally work properly, not just VOIP but chat as well
 • expecting moderators to review ‘abuse’ reports is silly, I’d rather they focus on getting cheaters down, and making the game better.

Someone offends you? mute them - PROBLEM SOLVED.

You’d like to report them to ‘authorities’ - TOO BAD : not gonna happen.

We can all dream about the perfect world where internet is free and polite. Or we can learn to live with the internet thats free but abusive as fuck.

(Jurmabones) #108

How are video games that important to you that you think people’s lives outside of the game should be genuinely affected by stuff they did in a game? Just ban hackers within the game, period. No need to create a real-life witch hunt. You seem kind of insane the more I read your last two posts.

(SnakekillerX) #109

How does someone’s online actions not still directly affect others? Just because you insult someone else and then later forget about it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t stick with the person you insulted?

Perhaps your are more accustomed to being on the giving end than the receiving end?
Is wishing that people weren’t complete asshats really that bad?

Of course my examples given were not meant to be real courses of action for this day and age, and some of it is exaggerated. The point is if YOU are a dick to others, than that should in some way come back to YOU. You shouldn’t just be able to get away with it because its the Internet.

(Black) #110

-_-

I’m insane because I don’t want a potty mouthed community?

(Jurmabones) #111

I wasn’t referring to you, unless you think people need to have their social security number tied to online games and the internet like that other dude. Then yeah, your mind is warped.

(neverplayseriou) #112

the day gaming gets bound to your social security number, the day gaming dies.

(SnakekillerX) #113

I never said it should. I said in the far future, there may be something similar in place. I don’t know this for sure, and neither do you. As things become more and more digital it is only natural progression that so we as humans will start becoming more digital/computerized, including becoming a unique entity on the Internet.

Hell a lot of us are already glued to a screen of some sort for most of the day, like a smart phone, or a monitor. There are also robotic prosthetics that people can use… some of those also interact with things such as a smart phone.

Just like you see in some sci-fi movies where people have insane concepts like having a phone integrated into your hand, or head, or teleportation, or lasers or doors that automatically open for you… or a machine that can instantly heat an object… oh wait… some of those exist already.

Again, I NEVER said they should link it to your social security number, it was a theoretical example as a way to ensure people don’t do things online that they wouldn’t do in the real world as it would be linked back to them, and since this sort of thing is not going to happen any time soon, we will have to continue putting up with the scum of the earth.

(Jurmabones) #114

So you suggested the idea but don’t think they should do it? Quit backtracking. Just admit you weren’t using the noggin when you said that. Or stick to your guns and embrace the insanity.

(Ghosthree3) #115

[DAMAGE CONTROL]

(neverplayseriou) #116

I would like a report button for people saying they’re devs and they’ll ban you xD

Had one today that first said he would ban us for spawncamping (chapel last defender spawn LOL).

Then he would ban me for hacking xD

Always funny seeing retards in a game though xD

(FurryGagarin) #117

can we back to root problem?

no one would do the harass if the team is not stupid. stupid team not noob.
no smoke without fire.

like your teammate don’t use proper merc for the game. 4/6 members using engineer on ev defend game or half of the team just didn’t care the objective. you ask polite request and they keep ignoring your advice.

dont you think this became a justify tool for stupid player that hear every words on chat is patronizing him?

(SnakekillerX) #118

I’m not back peddling anything… and I honestly don’t know why I care so much to convince you of anything. It was a hypothetical situation showing a world in which basically you would have to change a LOT of thing in order to eliminate people online from being complete assholes. While I wouldn’t mind myself having some privilege rights revoked in favor of a situation that may better things on a different front, I’m not saying they should take these exact actions, but that one day in the future it may be closer to reality.

Such as law enforcement, it is put in place to ensure people don’t run around doing whatever the hell they damn please… it isn’t perfect, far from it… yet it exists.

(SereneFlight) #119

Two words: text chat.

(SnakekillerX) #120

Yes, it would be nice to mute/ignore chat from certain players.
Please add it.
