ETQW for the next gen consoles confirmed

To elaborate further on ayatollah’s post: W:ET features objectives which needs all classes to conquer them and XP is gathered along the way.

The XP system shows how much a player has been using his classes’ skills, and is in that way only an indication of skill, not a target. Players do abuse the XP system in an attempt to gain more respect.

The most important thing is that a bunch of players is only a herd, a group of players working together for an objective is a team. And ET focuses on teams, not herds.

I will just buy both the PC and PS3 version

I’m bit worried about the PS3 port, Z-Axis doesn’t have too good background in games, unlike Nerve. But then again they just copy finished(?) game to another platform, i hope it will work. I also hope they add kb&mouse support.

Tho my pc is good enough for pc version, so i’ll prolly skip on the console ports.

Nerve is a safe pair of hands… but most of the hard work has already been done, Z-Axis would have to be seriously incompetent to screw it up.

The PS3 already has an Nvidia GPU and runs on some form of OpenGL, so that shouldn’t be too much trouble. I guess the hardest part will be optimising the D3 engine for Cell (wouldn’t surprise me if id software have already done some work on this) and making the controls as nice as possible. Perhaps incorporating some sixaxis support?

(ayatollah) #45

I just don’t see how the controls could possibly map to pads. Can you imagine, using W:ET as an example, checking your binoculars to see the enemy, firing off a few rounds, reviving a downed teammate, pumping him full of medipacks, killing someone and whipping out your knife to gib them…all in a matter of 5 seconds.

My fingers hurt at the thought of it.

(kamikazee) #46

Combo’s and analog sticks might allow that, but quite frankly, I don’t want to know.

(meisterbrau) #47

looks like you never played on consoles. there are 8 buttons directly accsessible(a,b,c,d,left/right trigger/bumber) plus klickable sticks and directionpad. far more than enough for fps. more tricky for real time strategie.

but anyway. i’m not intressed in discussions about, what gamedevice is supperior. i actually do not even care, as long as i can have fun.
if m+k is the only way for you to have fun, just stick with it. i’m not here to convince anybody.

Man I am consoles biggest fan. I much prefer consoles to PC. W:ET is the only PC game that I play. I have played many a FPS and just think that the complexities of ET’s controls cannot be replicated. For a simple frag shooter, such as Perfect Dark Zero, a pad is fine, but when you have so much other things to do, as in ET, then a pad just can’t hold up while being effective to use.

Most FPS on consoles these days use the “wheel” for weapons. Ie, hold one button and point in a direction for a different weapon. This takes a lot longer than pressing 2 for my pistol. Then when you take into account that most PC players will have binds to do multiple things at once, that just emphasises the lack of buttons on the pad.

In W:ET there is only 2 buttons on my keyboard which aren’t bound to anything. So that is 104 buttons + 5 on my mouse. So 109 buttons on PC 34 on pad…which is better?!

I will probably still get the 360 version, if there is single-player and it is half-decent. But I will prob never play the multiplayer.

you know every single doom, wolfenstein, and quake game, that has been commercially released, went to consoles right? I can think of every id game for consoles

Wolf 3d for SNES
Doom for PSX
Quake for N64 and sega saturn
Quake 2 for PSX and N64
Quake 3 for Dreamcast and PS2
Doom 3 for XBOX
Quake 4 for XBOX360

Then there is RTCW. For me this one is special becuase I have all 3 versions. I have PC, XBOX, and PS2 versions. The PS2 version has no multiplayer and some levels are cut in half kinda like doom 3 xbox version. This version also has the africa prologue campaign. This is the worst of them all. PC and xbox versions are tied, but xbox version has the africa campaign. PC does not. They both have multiplayer, although one will have maps that the other does not.

What I don’t see here is that why are some people have a grudge against quakewars on consoles. And NO. A console release does not push the PC release so that they are released at the same time.

Look at RTCW with 2001 PC release and 2003 ps2 and xbox release.

(ayatollah) #50

Yes all were ported to consoles and all were worse than the PC version, bar none. I have nothing against the game being released on consoles, just saying it won’t be as good control-wise.

(signofzeta) #51

I have both xbox and ps2. I find that the xbox is a much better console for first person shooters than PS2 would be.

I would normally play first person or third person shooting games on xbox, and sports games on ps2 because the way the controllers are made.

#52

I really don’t like this multiplatform thing. Don’t know why, though. Maybe it’s 'cause now I’ve got to buy both PC and PS3 version, assuming the PS3 version is good.

Just think of the injuries…[/quote]

You could tell you friends proudly that you get injured during the quake wars.

Has anyone had the chance to read Xbox 360 GAMER out on 8th March.
Supposed to have a QW preview.
