guess it will be ported by nerve or muffin:)
ETQW for the next gen consoles confirmed
there went any faith i had in the company being centered around the gamer. unless of course they work on that after they get it out for the pc. cater to your loyal primary market first and then suck the last bit of milk out later. if that’s what has caused the delays then i can say i’m sorely dissapointed. that’d also explain the lack of news updates though. meh.
edit: i can’t read. see posts below. =P
Um if you read properly, SD will have nothing to do with the console ports. Nerve and Z-Axis will be doing them. As far as I am concerned they can make the game for 360 and PS3, they won’t be a touch on the PC original.
I am sure the ports will hit consoles a fair time after the PC. Xmas 07 at the earliest.
What about the Wii? Why can’t I be jumping behind couches for cover and shit in Quake Wars?
By this announcement I take it that the Enemy Territory IP is owned by id and not SD. Was that always the case?
How do the SD guys feel about someone else producing their versions of your baby?

just because there is a console version doesn’t mean it will make the PC version any worse. And looking at it from id’s point of view, there a business and there are large console markets
With console becoming more powerful and gaining more popularity in online play game developers who don’t start moving into that market could soon find themselves at a big disadvantage to those who are willing to develop for consoles
What I’d like to know is this: Will the future ports have any impact on the gameplay / class balancing of (the pc-version of) ET:QW at all?
Is QW developed / playtested with console gameplay in mind?
They can only be happy about it. The more versions of a game, the more players, and the greater chance for a sequel
Game companies know the value of a name like Quake, and the value of a highly anticipated game. They are not going to just give PC Quake Wars to another developer and say ‘have a port ready in 3 months’. I’m sure it’s a long process of talks throughout development that will include ID and SD.
There is always a chance a port will be crappy, but ID doesn’t seem like the type of company to just ‘release it already’ like many producers today. Remember they scrapped the RTCW expansion and gave away the multiplayer (ET). If QW on a console just sucks I bet ID would scrap it or start fresh.
I am not saying that the PC version will be crappy, far from it. There is no reason for it to be crap as SD are not developing the console versions.
@Hakuryu:
Some people may disagree after playing Q4 on 360!
All I know is for people like me who cant afford a good PC, cant play quake wars on the PC. So this is good news because I do however have a xbox 360. But let me get one thing clear, I truly believe the Pc version will obviously be superior for many reasons now with that being said I think console owners like myself deserve whatever is left over. Soo…yeah…
they should get Vicarious Visions to do the porting, I think they did a really great job with Doom 3.
Quake 4 for console was rushed, I doubt ETQW will have the same problems.
That sums up how I feel too. As a PC gamer mainly, I don’t think we have anything to fear since we’re getting the real deal from Splash Damage. And we have plenty to gain by expanding the player base of the relatively new ET franchise.
I highly doubt we’ll be playing with these guys, but you never know…
They’ve said several times, SD is dedicated to not dumbing down the gameplay - even for noob PC gamers.
Anyhow, I just got around to reading some of the actual press release. Console version only has 16 players? I feel sorry for em, in a way. If anything, they’re the ones getting the watered down version. They aren’t getting the full experience of ET:QW, and I’m not sure if consoles have a way to break the limit…
PC’s on the other hand. A recent example I can think of was Doom3. Remember that 4 player limit? What a joke , people broke that on the first day. I only played Doom3 multiplayer for a week or 2 when it very first came out, and even then I managed to hop on to some 8 or 12 man servers that were running fine (and yes, I was running on rock bottom graphics pretty much). I saw some servers with 16 or more slots, even.
