That link got my blood boiling just a little bit, but I guess you could argue that everyone’s entitled to their own opinions - and gamers in general are a community of elitist jerks at times. And it does sort of amaze me that ETQW can pull off the things it does on Doom3 Engine. (Sidenote: anyone familiar with the “doom3 can do it too” project at doom3world.org? ETQW is practically the embodiment of that)

I have to admit I’m guilty of a good bit of trash-talking against Team Fortress 2 lately with my friend. We both know to take it with a grain of salt though, and I feel the same about this article. Shake the haters off, we know ETQW is gonna rock and I have nothing against people who are looking forward to TF2 or whatever, even though I’m not.

hmm,

am i the only one here who agrees with some of his findings. Maybe my less than top-notch PC gave me this negativity to the engine.

Although, I think the lighting engine and lack of a sky box was what really annoyed me the most. The idea that light is very focussed any bounces only a couple of times is wrong, a candle can light up an entire room (if only by a small amount)

well anyway - don’t shout at me - from the looks of it, the modifcations to the engine look to combat these issues.

According to his profile you’re right, he’s 17. Thanks for making me feel old Sledge… and I’m only 22! But still, when I hear some people say Quake 3 or Counter-Strike was their first FPS I can’t help but shudder. (BTW, mine was Doom1 shareware and then Doom2 full version shortly after, can’t remember how old I was)

Besides the few who had th pleasure to test it about one round at E3 / Leipzig (and the Beta testers - I assume that there is an internal Beta test ATM).

i admit i didn’t read it all although i had little work today and had time to read it but halfway through i thought i’d rather stare holes into the air than read that nonsense. he shared his opinion, i share mine: first, that guy is an idiot. and second, i wonder what happens if he finds out that QW isn’t Q3 :nag:
