It’s been asked before. However SD are not the ones that own the master server or host the master server, so they are not the ones that are able to release it.
In fact they even said if there were allowed they’d be willing to host it themselves. Alas this has also not happened.
That’s no longer possible after id and its IPs transfer between multiple publishers. Besides, the community is already playing the game without a master server for a year now. Check TAW ETQW Discord:
How about Quake Wars for the Nintendo Switch, now there would be a plot twist.
Maybe id Software will became independent, Carmack & Willits know how to make sh*t right.
Neither Carmack or Willits are at id software any more, they both left.
