Not to worry, found an old deleted “etmain” in my recycling bin, happened to have an old etkey in it.
All is well!
This thread is just what I was looking for.
I run a small ET-server, and I want to confirm that since the last punkbuster-update, a huge percentage of clients are suddenly getting pb-kicked for “empty cd-key not allowed”.
It appears to only be new players. None of the regulars have problems.
It appears to only be new players.
As I suspected. Time for salvaging operation! (Hopefully my older PC still has the file.) Or somebody upload a working one for us. Maybe I’m goin to write an e-mail to them.
Yes it is definately the PB update, the /pb_cdkeyreg command is not currently working, so for those of you who have only recently installed or for those who have lost their etkey, unless you have an old one lying around the only thing you can do is wait.
I feel your pain

haha well i guess a pretty good way to kill an old game in anticipation of the upcoming sequel is to totally prevent new players from joining the old one
WARNING: I MIGHT MISUNDERSTOOD SOMETHING
I don’t think so. See Command & Conquer or The Elder Scrolls. You can download the older parts for free (and they work). They would ruin the anticipation, for the sequel with such things. I guess there is some sort of error.
haha yeah im just joking, its gotta be some punkbuster error. its annoying they havent said anything about it though
add 2 more to the list, 2 of my clan mates have reinstalled ET and can’t get an etkey.
can’t wait for a fix

V586 !
PB GUID Auth server is down. So, on PB servers you will not be able to play if you get new installation.
On non PB servers you will be able to play.
I dunno why PB GUID Auth is going down couple of times lately.
Hello folks, i got this problem after an even bigger problem with ET just a few days ago. Thie game decided that it was gonna refuse to load, after i figured out how to fix it i had the same problem as this, no etkey file and any punkbuster server would not let me play. I found the solution though.
Create a file using notepad called “etkey” (without the quotes) into the etmain directory (C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain), delete the .txt at the end of the etkey file so it does not have an extention and open it with notepad and copy and paste this into the new file:
7yrhsdndhdjsuwye
This is a random key i made that is not linked to any game so dont worry.
run ET and when it starts bring down the console with the ` button and type in
/pb_cdkeyreg
and then
/pb_myguid
…try and play on a normal server, you should now be able to enter the servers, if you get kicked after a short period of time because of an invalid CD key message, restart ET and follow the above CONSOLE ONLY steps again and this time PB should alocate you a working key automatically and then it will delete the etkey file itself, after this the game should work fine.
Please post here to let me know if this worked for you.
dosn’t work for me, cos when i create the etkey file the server just kicks me out with a “banned by server admin” msg, and pb_cdkeyreg doesn’t work either cos auth serv doesn’t respond. Any other suggestions, except uninstall and format? : >
My ET folder has been lost unfortunately. I do not know what my GUID was. Where could I find it out? The hardware and software configuration of my computer are the same. Could I regenerate the same etkey file if I found out my old GUID? I have a lot of XPs on numerous servers.
No, ETkeys are not dependant upon hardware or software, if you loose your ETkey the only way of retrieving it would be something like system restore
Some pages say that pb_cdkeyreg cvar can be changed to the old 32-character-long GUID. Is it true?
I have also read that GUID is dependent upon hardware in order not to abuse it. Am I wrong?
it’s sad that your more worried about your saved xp than just playing the game, generate a new etkey and go play on ETPro servers for a while
