ETKey will not generate

Hello everyone, I am having some problems with my ET. I was getting the invalid cdkey message when I was connecting to servers so someone told me to delete the etkey out of my etmain folder. The way I understood it to work was, PB would generate a new etkey for me I just wouldn’t have my server admin. Now I get kicked for empty cdkey. I uninstalled and made fresh installations about five times. I installed on a different HD. I ran the\pb_cdkeyreg in the console but I never got the key success or whatever the message says. I tried the \cl_punkbuster 1 command that didn’t work. These are just things that I had found in other forums of people having similar problems. Bottom line is I havn’t played ET in three days and I am having withdrawals so if anyone can help out, I would be greatly appreciative.

try updating punkbuster with pbweb.exe in pb folder in main install, then try

Another thing I noticed is no servers come up in the list, I can enter an IP, connect, then get booted for empty cdkey, but nothing shows up in list :???:

Is your connection being controlled by anything, i.e:router from business/school ?
Did you run a spychecker/antivirii ? Did you try typing…’ \pb_webupdate ’ in the console ?
Is your Server browser settings set to receive internet games and NOT Lan games/ or even favorites ? Did you try to delete the directory of Wolfenstein after you uninstalled the game ? Did you visit evenbalance.com (PB’s website) ?

No its not controlled by anything. I ran the webupdate from the etmain folder. The browser is on internet. I deleted the directory before installation. I sent an email to evenbalance and read their FAQ. I am in a clan of maybe 50 people that all know more about this shit than I do, I just posted in a big forum thinking maybe someone has had a problem similar or knew how to fix it. Thanks for checking it out anyway.

4 years later, exactly same problem for me.

After a fresh install, no etkey file !
So I get kicked for “empty CD key”.

I’ve search all tricks on internet, nothing resolves it.

The most strange is /pb_cdkeyreg just says:
Cdkey Registration Request sent to GuidAuth Master at 192.246.40.62:27960 (1232289355)

… and I never receive the etkey file in etmain …

My PB is v2.190 | A0 updated with pbsetup.exe (problem is the same if I dont update PB)

Do others players face this problem since fresh install these days ??? (I think a PB bug) ???

afaik the etkey should be generated when you run the et.exe
Try to give the root folder of your ET installation admin rights so the et.exe can write the file.

Can’t remember exactly how I solved this problem years ago as I buyed a new PC. :frowning:

no, I have admin rights on the computer, and have already made many desinstall/reinstall under my account (it is an old computer, for the moment) without ths problem …

i’m having the same problem and none of the fixes above or elsewhere seem to work, the etkey file just wont generate

If you feel having tried all the tips you read, do like me, open a Ticket at evenbalance.com it may be a bug
For the moment, no update of it, here is how I describe :

[I]Hi - I’ve desinstalled the game W:ET, supressed manually the game directory, and re-installed the game. Now, I can not join any server, kicked because my GUID is invalid, or empty.
I have not etkey file in etmain directory.
When I do /pb_cdkeyreg, it just sent the Request, shows its number, but I never receive the CDKey …
With pbsetup.exe, I’ve updated client to v2.190|A0 but always no etkey file …
Please help, it is 2 days long I can not play :-((

I’ve also tried:

/pb_sv_update and had no errors, but I still cant have an etkey … [/I]

I’ve looked around on some other forums and it seems that pb_cdkeyreg isn’t working atm… must be a punkbuster side problem, nothing we can do really except wait

I have the exact same problem, heed this warning, do nto connect to servers via Xfire, this is what deletes your etkey in the first place. I do not know how or why but it does, it happened to me yesterday.

Can we also get an update on when the “/pb_cdkeyreg” will work again please?

I suudenly wonder why I have A0 in the version number ??

My exact version of “PunkBuster client for ET” is v2.190 | A0
Do you all have the A0 ? Because maybe “empty CDkey” problem comes from it …

I also have “A0”.

I never noticed it before, but that is because I never looked. :stuck_out_tongue:

I shouldn’t think it’s of any significance though?

yes - if you search in this page http://www.evenbalance.com/ you see A1382 and no A0 - maybe “not normal” ???

Problem solved for me: a friend of mine having installed ET (but never plays, prefers Playstation3), has sent me the etkey file, and now it is OK.

This friend of yours, did he have ET install already or did he recently install it?

Because I tired the same thing with a friend of mine on the same day and it did not work, perhaps this is because the PB update bug is still not fixed?
