Anyone who calls trickjumping in ET an “exploit” is completely, utterly clueless. I mean no offense to anyone who feels that way (not even Joe999), but you clearly haven’t been around the Q3 engine very long. Trickjumping is a staple of gameplay. Noone who has been around the Q3 engine (or even the Q2 and Q1 engines) for a long time, and in particular no top players in any of the above games/engines, would share your opinion.
I hate to “jump in” like this because I know Joe999 will think I am personally attacking him (I’m not). But when I hear things that would make any sane person roll their eyes, I have to speak up. It may very well be that trickjumping is not your cup of tea, and perhaps you find it annoying and even intolerable. But that doesn’t mean trickjumping is unsuited to ET, it means you are unsuited to ET.
Also note that every time you jump down Goldrush hill, you are accellerating via the same phenomenon which allows for more elaborate trickjumps. In effect, and in fact, you are trickjumping. In competition, things like the Oasis walljump are quite rare, because it would only be possible against a completely incompetent team. And that’s the ultimate point here of course. If someone beats you via trickjumping it’s not because the game somehow failed by allowing an “exploit,” it’s because you failed by allowing a superior player/team to do it under your nose.
P.S. Anyone who says trickjumping is BS better not be capping their framerate to 43/76/125. You can’t pick and choose and say jumping up onto a crate is OK but jumping onto the Fueldump roof is not.
