ET Test Known Issues and Bug Reporting

(Locki) #1

We really appreciate everyone’s feedback and please don’t worry if your feedback seems negative. It’s hard to report on things that are wrong with Enemy Territory Test (bugs, balance issues etc) without sounding critical, and we really don’t mind.

If you do find a bug or balance issue though, please check that it’s not in the Known Issues list below, and then mail it to id Software at etbugs@idsoftware.com. This makes our job so much easier because we don’t have to filter the bugs from each forum post.

Here’s the Known Issues list from the ReadMe:

Known Issues

Crashes

Video Restart Crash

When the end of round screen is being displayed (debriefing), the game will crash if video settings are changed that require a vid_restart (anything that needs to be applied). The gray startup console reappears with the error VM_Call with NULL vm.

Widescreen Issues

If you run the game in widescreen, the load screen will often appear black. Also, if you choose to host a game while in widescreen mode, you will crash. Both of these will be addressed in the final game.

Interface Issues

Functionality Not Implemented

Any red menu options represent functionality that will work in the final release version of ET but is not currently implemented in this test.

Health Bars not Refreshing Properly

It has been noted that health bars of your teammates may not refresh in the first-person view. This will sometimes cause a Medic to try to give a teammate more health than they really need, or be unable to tell if the person is injured. This is a known bug and will be addressed for the final release.

Console Commands

Most options that you would consider wanting to use can be set from somewhere in the UI (user interface) - from the options or controls menu, or in one of the in-game menus. Further, chances are that if an option isn’t set in the UI somewhere, it’s not relevant to the ET Multiplayer Map TEST. You should therefore use the UI options instead of console commands to set options wherever possible. Console commands may produce unexpected results and should generally be avoided.

Spectating Error

If you are spectating when the round is over, you will be taken to the ‘Esc’ menu rather than the normal debriefing screen. If this happens, just press ‘Esc’ to close the menu and return to the debriefing screen.

Ready Button

If you press the ‘Ready’ button on the debriefing screen, the button goes away because you can’t undo it.

Chat Button

On the debriefing screen the toggle button “To Global, To Team, and To Fireteam” will switch between who will see your chat messages. It does not filter the list for you.

Debriefing Artwork

The debriefing screens you see at the end of the match are placeholder and will be replaced with more in-depth statistics and improved art in the final version.

Mortar Triangulation

When the Field OpS drops a smoke canister, this marks the crosshair for soldiers carrying a Mortar. Currently, this only marks the horizontal axis, not the vertical. This will be fixed for the final release.

Missing Mortar Hits

When the Mortar is fired, marks are made on the command map to enable targeting. Sometimes the marks don’t show up. This will be fixed in the final release.

Cursor Locks

Cursor arrow sometimes locks in Limbo. This seems to happen very rarely and randomly. If this happens to you we suggest that you exit out of Limbo and continue to play your current selection. This will be fixed in the final release.

Server Issues

Saving Server Options

Please be aware that no create server options are saved until you actually hit “Accept” and start a server. If you make changes to the server settings and then don’t start the server, you’ll lose your changes. Saving on the Advanced Server Settings screen will not be affected by changes you make on this screen as they are saved separately.

Max Players

The maximum number of players for the ET Multiplayer TEST is 32 total and 16 for each side; the server host can set this to a lower number from the Multiplayer/Create Server menu. It is highly recommended that these numbers are not exceeded. In games that include players using dial-up connections, no more than 8 players are recommended.

Auto-Update

Auto-update functionality may not be reliable in the test but will be in the final version.

Server Browser

The server browser does not support the use of the ARROW keys and ENTER for selecting servers - this should be dealt with in the final release.

Graphics Issues

32-bit vs. 16-bit Color Depth

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory defaults to 32-bit color. You may change this setting to 16-bit, but it is not officially supported. If you decide to make this change, you may notice graphics problems and artifacts on your screen. Also, during preliminary testing, there was not much of a performance increase by making this switch. Please do so at your own risk.

Double Brownings

Sometimes when a player jumps into the Tank, the browning gun appears twice (once as part of the tank, and also as part of the player). This will be fixed for the final release.

Missing Fireteam Icons

You cannot recognize who is on your fireteam from the regular game view. In the final game, members of your fireteam will have an icon on the back of their helmet, and when selected the icon will be over their head to distinguish them.

In-game Issues

Grenade Physics

The grenade physics will not perform as you may remember from Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This was an intentional addition and was implemented this way so that the thrower’s velocity was translated into the throw. This is important to deal with throwing grenades from moving objects (like the tank in Fueldump).

Fireteam Member Selection

Only Fireteam leaders (the person who creates the fireteam) can individually select members of the team. This is a bug. In the final game, all members of the team will be able to select members to deliver specific chat messages.

Fireteam Chat Selection

Sending a message to just one member of your fireteam will be transmitted to everyone on the fireteam if it is a global message (not class specific). If it is class specific, all members of your fireteam that are that class will hear it. This is not the intended functionality.

Fireteam Selection

You are automatically placed into a fireteam. In the final version, you will be given an option.

Missing Call-votes

The following call-votes will not work, unless done by a referee: Reset Match, Warm-up Damage, Game Type.

I have two small nitpicking bugs, which most likely are caused by my own rig :

First of all, on the loading screen , the ‘awaiting gamestate’ is not a constant text : it keeps flickering very fast. [I get that too, it’s not just your rig - Wils]

Second, when i connect to a server (and it automatically makes me spectator, and shows me the limbo-screen) : the little ‘tank-view’-cam (default setting) won’t be loaded immeadeately : Instead, it is purplish, and when you draw your cursor over it, you get the same effect you get when you look in a hall of mirrors : it ‘smears’ out your cursor.
it is like this for about 5 seconds, so as said before , just nitpicking

Great job btw on the gameplay : it’s so f*cking cool to defend a movable object : I can;t stop  . /me goes on playing again.

Btw, i also sent this one to the email address supplied.

I agree with most people on sounds. My primary concern is the physics, player motions and animations, which are terrible atm. Player skins looks weird, whats up with beard ? Allies look more like terrorists now than soldiers.

I wonder if there’s still any place/time to squeeze in one(or all) of the following features :

  • ‘Last weapon used’ slot : I like it to have one button , so when it’s ‘quiet’ can preselect two weapons, and then i can keep pressing the ‘last weapons used’-button to switch between, for instance, grenade and gun.
  • Can’t you guys maybe put in a sample replay , of some l33t SD members ?
  • Right now, when you are dead, but not yet in Limbo, you can’t freely rotate around your body/look around.
This is very handy to look if some medic might be around you, and so you won’t have to go back to respawn, but can wait for him
  • Could the marker that appears on the Mortar maybe last longer ?
Now i sometimes have it that im at a spot, pull down the Mortar, make a quickl fire, take the Mortar down, only to see i might a feckin’ brilliant shot : Then i noticed i wasn’t that much paying attention (or got confused by the measure-lines on it) and can’t pull it off again :
Would it be possible to let the marker on the Mortar last longer ? (or maybe make it a permanent marker once shot : that gets overwritten by the next marker set when shot)

As said, just some suggestions : Been having alot of fun with this , and only now start exploiting the team possibilities.
/me is gonna play some

When I’m playing, whatever key I bind to +moveleft or +moveright just makes me lean left and lean right, respectively.

It usually works fine for a while, then out of no where it just refueses to strafe, and instead leans in the respective direction.

I’ve tried rebinding them in the cfg file, in the console, and in the in game menu, but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

(i found 2 little bugs…

when hosting a server…you can set the respawn time for allies and axis but no mather what you change…if you set it on 10…it will still be 30 seconds…same with the game length…

oh and the allies AND axis…dont have eye’s :???: kinda weird…anyways i totally LOVE the game…

oh and thinkin about it…the lag and high ping really is TERRIBLE…is it just the demo? caus i know its not me…i always have a good ping…even when im playing on a server in my country im lagging like hell and my ping is enormous…well thats it…anyways…thats about it! rock on!

I LOVE ET!

Here’s another quite annoying bug from the Linux server: it crashes !!
Happened three times today already on my server, 2 times on another server i know (not mine ;p) and I believe a third guy mentioned his server crashing also today, so good enough to mention it here I think (I’ll mail to the address given in the readme too).

As far as I know, the crash occurs after the intermission time between rounds, not always (obviously), but occassionaly. The only error I found after logging was:

ERROR: G_SpawnString() called while not spawning

That’s all the useful info I can give you :frowning: The other serveradmin says his server crashed while in-game. On neither servers the server load is exceptional (on mine nowhere near even).

I will now read for people who can’t read.

If you do find a bug or balance issue though, please check that it’s not in the Known Issues list below, and then mail it to id Software at etbugs@idsoftware.com. This makes our job so much easier because we don’t have to filter the bugs from each forum post.

Behold, almighty pack has replied!

Just a small nitpick - the gun sounds :frowning: Could you change the Thompson and MP40 back to the old sounds as I prefer them over the “mouse-clicking” sound that it’s got now…

Can I mention one more? (Hope you don’t take these the wrong way - please take it as constructuve criticism) - some of the Voice chats, for example the “Medic” one. This guy sounds like he’s on drugs rather than lying down on the floor bleeding to death…

Other than that - ET is a great game and have played it non-STOP all day…can’t wait for the full version!

([ACF]CheetaH) #10

Hi,

I found a little bug regarding the stats. They are refreshing every x seconds, but if you have autoaction enabled for the stats a statsfile is created after each refresh. So each minute it creates like 30 identical files.

Great game!

Am just pinpointing what exatly it is that causes it - But I often appear in the menu as dead and/or in the fireteam as 0 health and dead - when I am not… Will let you know when i pinpoint cause.

(Narh lag isnt THAT bad lool)

Also - On feul depot map - If you complete an objective like the command structure - b4 the door after bridge has blown it can stall the tank if allies shoot at it…

What I mean is that we had to wait for axis to further destroy it before we could repair it and get it to move - otherwise it just sat there.

It sucks as well tbh being able to blow the depot within a couple of mins by just having two guys sneak through ;D very easy to do and detracts a little from the importance of the tank - Having said that it does make the Axis consider defense more.

Lots lots lots more to report - wil lstart demoing some stuff etc - where do we send demos?

(SCDS_reyalP) #12

Small bug:
If you choose not to use weapon cycle for zoom, there is no option in the UI to set what your zoom keys are.

Or maybe i’m blind ?

(Poool) #13

Engine is really sloooow. I have AMD XP 1800+, 256DDR ram, GF3 Ti200 , --low details and my fps is still 30-50 fps.

(Big_Duke_06) #14

I’m having some really ugly graphical problems… All the text on the screens are severly garbled. Can’t make out what it says - it looks like Japanese writing…

My specs:
AMD Athlon 1400
512 MB RAM
Voodoo 5 5500 64 MB AGP
Windows 2000 SP3
DX 8.1
3dfx Underground Drivers

Do I need to upgrade to DX 9? Go back to the original 3dfx drivers? Any suggestions?

Matthew

(swatoa) #15

There was really only one necessary console command I used with RtCW, and that was /seta r_displayrefresh “#”. I noticed this doesn’t work, and I saw up top that console commands generally should not be used. I can’t stands 60hz frequency - will this command work in the final release?

(SCDS_reyalP) #16

A couple more minor issues

  • map bug: The hurt of the barbwire extends past where it goes into the ground (on the axis side of the bridge).

  • some weapons seem to need to be empty to reload. The allies engineer gerand (but not the axis rifle) and the portable machine gun were the ones I noticed.

  • The mortar seems to use the angle of the surface you deployed it on. That might be intentional, but a normal mortar, you would be able adjust the tripod to level it (or dig it in a bit if the legs were not adjustable)

(SCDS_reyalP) #17

One more
rate seem to stay at 5000 even if you set your connect to lan/cable/dsl.

(thelastname) #18

When are you guy’s going to provide support in the game for people with 5 button mouse’s. There are other ways of doing but i think the game should support it. There are a lot of people with a 5 button mouse.

(Weaver24) #19

In real life, the M1 garand must be done with its clip to reload, so it is realistic in that sense. MG42… I don’t care

(Big_Duke_06) #20

UPDATE: Installed DX9 and the Wicked GL 3.02 drives for Q3 (by renaming ET.exe to quake3.exe, installing the drivers, then renaming it back) and the problem is gone. If anyone with a similar setup is having the same problems, try these steps.
