ET: something needs to be done about complaint kicks

(DasMonkey) #1

alright, I’ve been playing ET since day 2 of its release, more like day 1.5 but whatever. I’m a good player, not a god, but good… Usually first or second in score on whatever server if I’m there for 3 rounds, and usually take 3-6 slots on the awards boards. Just trying to be clear that I’m not some n00b who doesn’t know where airstrikes go… anyways…
I play these new maps whatever, even on fuel depot in the test. More often then not leading my team in score/rank/kills… Then when I artillery an objective… be it the tank, something someone needs to blow up or whatever… I have the 4 or 5 toolbag players with scores under 10 that run into them, get killed and complain me. The other 90% of my team that knows how to play knows how to avoid smoke… and artillery… So I’m only tk’ing idiots, and getting complained off servers for it.

I’m just thinking something should be implemented in the scores or something that protects those who know how to play, from those who clearly don’t. Kinda ruins my good time when i got people, who i know suck, complaining me off a server :banghead: . Maybe something where the lowest percent of scores can’t complain people in the higher range. or something where having a higher score nets you more complaints.
Or my personal favorite… if some tool runs under my obvious smoke and gets tk’d… let me complain against them for being a moron :bash: . that’d be great

I really don’t know, but its happened a couple times… and It’s not a matter of me being careful, it’s me doing my jobs as a field ops and defending whatever with artillery. have the same problem in basic wolf… but i’m addicted to ET now, so my complaint comes here. heh. sorry. to sum it up I guess… I’d just like something where those who can play are protected (complaint wise) from those who can’t. ~ DasMonkey

The only way to control this is to play on servers where there are active admins to contol how many noobs are on at any one time.

I think that as people learn the game it will become less of a problem. RTCW has almost exactly the same complaint system, and people filing useless complaints isn’t much of a problem. Eventually, people will figure out that getting good players kicked from their team doesn’t help.

Server admins might want to up the complaint limit a bit, since the maps are longer and there are a lot of new people. There is also a setting for maximum unique complaints, which can help keep one lamer from kicking people.

Letting you complain if people stood under your smoke wouldn’t work. A llama could call smoke on their own spawn, and then TK people AND get them kicked. :moo:

I would like to do away with the complaint system completely.

ET has a nice simple voting system. It would still be nice if it has a REASON text field.

If someone is a TK vote them off. Too many problems withthe complaint system.

(SCDS_reyalP) #5

You should have played RTCW before the complaint system… Trust me, it is a Good Thing. In any case, admins who don’t like the complaint system can turn it off.

(poorme) #6

When you’re a “good” player, complaints by noobs are really frustating.

Yesterday, on Gold i played an Axis Engineer and i put 3 landmines near the back of the trunck. And all noobs from my team run over my mines and they complaint ! and i’ve been kicked :banghead:

But i think, the complaint system is good but the game is really new. In 1 month i hope that player that run over landmine or run near an artillery/airstrike spot won’t complaint.

(Kendle) #7

Exactly. Complaints aren’t an issue in RTCW cos people know what they’re doing. It’s only people new to RTCW that are playing with the complaint system like it’s a new toy. It’ll settle down eventually.

(Shiznit) #8

they should flash in BIG RED COLORS

THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE/COMPLAIN!

(VampMaster) #9

When i started playing (yesterday 5PM) I complained some time about Tkers, And when I got a bit more used to the game (yesterday about 9PM) I stopped making complaints, since it hurts the whole team someone that doesn’t advance, doesn’t get better skills and therefore cannot help the rest of the team as much. So all you new players out there DO NOT COMPLAIN, Unless you are liked killed in spawn and you know for a fact that it was intentional.

(poorme) #10

Right !!! :drink:

Tbh, when you play it in a normal way, you hardly make teamkills. It shouldn’t be hard to limit those to 2 - 3 teamkills per round. (minelaying engineers excluded).
Even I, a medic who does tk/revive all the time, haven’t been kicked off a server. I do get a lot of complaints though, but I always make sure the complainer gets it into his thick skull that its a bad thing to do so, and that it makes the game much harder for him to play, when the only medic in the team hates your guts.

Just make sure you learn the newbies that it’s a bad thing to do. In a somewhat nice way too, otherwise they won’t listen.

(=MLK=FOO) #12

Just do what I do…You get 2 chances to run over my mines… Then I vote to kick you for complaints and being a noob. I warn people but I dont think most noobs can’t read  I have actually had people kicked for running over mines and complaining. Also the same goes for airstrikes. STAY AWAY FROM THE SMOKE  IT IS NOT YOUR FRIEND

(VampMaster) #13

I just played for about 3 hours as field op, getting good :).

I launch a smoke near ennemy Hideout, and it seems for the newbies that the smoke is a signal to charge or something, as soon as I launched it, like 6 players went running through it… All died, luckily none complaint.

(alexwryt) #14

The complaint system is basically worthless anyway because intentional TKers that get kicked just type /reconnect and they’re back in 5 seconds. It has always been this way in the pubs on RTCW and will probably be this way for ET’s lifespan unless the pubs start using admin bots that will ban the idiots.

(bogs) #15

Is it just me or did they change the complaint system so you only loose XP instead of being kicked?

BTW, I file complaints EVERY time, especially if it was an accident because it’s FUNNY to see people get mad over something so silly.

…and over time I won’t get shot in the back by my own team. They’ll let the guy in front do the shooting.

(VampMaster) #16

Bogs, sorry to say that, but go play CS if you can’t play in team, Each time you file a complaint you hurt the team. “I do it because it’s funny” :eek2: :eek3: Yeah whatever.

God, peoples are dumb :), Just played a game on radar with a engi layign mines, even if there is a flag telling them NOT TO STEP THERE they still do. And file a complaint… Bah

(=MLK=FOO) #17

Vote to kick em vamp thats what I do.

(BoltyBoy) #18

Damn I keep getting killed by enemy players and it won’t let me file a complaint against em - what’s up with that?

(SCDS_reyalP) #19

No, you loose XP, and after a certain number of complaints (set on the server), you are kicked.

This is a pretty stupid thing to do if you actually want to win. Even good players will team kill you from time to time. Sometimes you die with a primed grenade in your hand… Sometimes you don’t toss it quite right… Sometimes someone runs into your line of fire with 1 health, and your one bullet takes them down… sometimes you fire your pf into a mass of enemies, not realizing there are 2 teammates around the corner… Sometimes killing one teammate is a good trade for killing 5 enemies who are about to take the objective… Sometimes you just plain screw up. If YOU have not tked in ALL of these ways, you obviously haven’t played very much.

If you are complaining against people who are not intentional tkers, you are either an asshole, an idiot or both. On any server with a decent admin, you should find yourself kicked and banned in short order.

(BlackDeath) #20

lol, do what i do, dont get killed by em  :drink:

But SCDS has a very good point. Good people make mistakes, hell Gods in this game make mistakes, its all part of human nature. For example, yesterday, the tank in Fuel Dump just got past the bridge and was heading toward the gates. I whipped out an airstrike canister and threw it, not seeing a guy crouching right in front of me (I was running while doing this). The damn thing hit the back of his head  , and bounced right on top of the railing. Whoops :frowning: Anyways, it nuked 2 of my guys, but they realized it was a mistake.

My point is, people make mistakes. Unless you are certain it was intentional, then dont file a complaint.

NOTE: It helps when you are on the top or near the top of the leaderboard, then players with a clue know that you understand what you’re doing
