ET:QW vs BF2142

(Killgarr) #1

Honestly im so pissed at EA for shipping crap that I dont think I will even buy BF2142, but to be honest I think the success of both games will rely on 2 things…gameplay and modability.

Everyone is gona play a fun game…nuff said, but look at the sucess of games that do well with great mods. Check out the stats on gamespy, but at any given moment, about 280k people are playing games online. Check the stats yourself, about 150k of them are playing games made by 1 company VALVE. Why? because there are tons of mods, maps and they make it easy to map and mod their games.

If ET:QW makes their game mod friendly (UNLIKE BF2) they will win, and have many people buying their game to play ET:QW AND the mods made from it!

Could you take CS out of the sum? I think that’s the most played HL mod, no?
And that one is not a true matter of modability, it’s just a classic gametype.

(Killgarr) #3

Why take CS out of it, it is the best example of a MOD making a company. CS made Valve one of the most played games ever, but Valve made HL very modable and HL2 MUCH more modable. Valve sold thousands of copies of HL because ppl wanted to play CS, to me, that is HUGE and other companies should look at that.

ET:QW will win even if it wouldn’t be mod friendly  battlefield gameplay sucks. this weekend i tried some xbox360 marketplace demos, one among them was “the outfit”. i played a while and thought what a sucky game … until i realized that the mp part consists of residing near flags like in bf2. then i disconnected. i wonder why game designers still produce that crappy gameplay without innovation … for the kids who have neither taste nor demand?

(kamikazee) #5

A ‘CS’-like gameplay is possible on the W:ET engine as well (see True Combat: Elite) so I think it’s not the modability being the problem.
Anyway, if the SDK is released ASAP after the game’s release it’s ok. The D3 game code (and thus ET:QW as well) is object oriented and this works quite more natural when working with entities.

It was ID :nag:

What?

What was ID?

The CS gameplay? how so?

The thing about mods is that you can make any type of gameplay you want.

2142 is their attempt of retaining there players from a disgusting and unbalanced BF2, also who in the right mind would buy a mod on a already bugged to hell 3D engine. Ppl are already sayng that Quake wars is the next game to play if it turns out ok, so EA are doing their best to do something to grab ppl’s attention away from what i hope to be the BF2 killer as it looks the part and hopefully play’s the part.

(kamikazee) #10

That is true for any game where the game code is released. There are probably things in the W:ET engine making coding some particular mod harder, but it’s still possible.

NO, that is not always true…go try and mod BF2…i dare you. The mod tools of BF2 are horrid and almost are made to make it so you CAN NOT mod the game. Where VALVE spent soooooo much time helping modders, and the game is very easily modded.

I hope ET:QW lears from VALVE and creates good mod tools and hopefully even works with some modders before release.

It doesn’t matter. Even if you could, people wouldn’t play mods, because modded servers are unranked, right ? Why would anyone play on a server which doesn’t measure size of your penis ?

There’s nothing worse than vs threads… and there’s nothing more stupid than creating it on forums dedicated to one of those sides.

Modded servers are ranked…go look for yourself.

The name of the thread was only because i did not want to name it “SD please make this game moddable unlike bf2 so you will get more sales and many nice mods for us all to play”

The “ranked” thing for mods is possible but its not the “true” ranked system BF2 uses…

I just hope SD wont go the way EA did with Dice and BF2. The amount of bugs you get or simple flaws in the game is just massive, some of which are just simply retarded from every possible angle imaginable.

To me EA seems to think PC gaming as a whole is just a joke. I just hope they rot in hell.

Amen

FWIW, the SD folks have clearly and repeatedly stated that ET:QW will be moddable, much like every other ID franchise.

(Shanks) #19

Modding of ET:QW should be possible out of the box. It should have the map editor built into the game executable, and will most likely (why would they remove this?) include scripts. Plus the SDK should be released soon after the release, afterall this is an ID game.

(Shmee) #20

I think ET:QW will obliterate BF2142.
I mean, what the hell. Why would Dice make another game when their current one is still so ridden with bugs and horrible gameplay?
The Quake universe is rich and engrossing, and adds that extra bit of coolness to Quake Wars.
