Yes, and Quake 3 too. It has cute bubbles in the water.
ET:QW Liquids
A lot of things in this game seem far more complex than a system for swimming, so it doesnât seem like a limit to me. Iâm fine with how they have it now, itâs more simple and doesnât bring up unnecessary issues.
For instance, if they put in water combat, there would have to be limited oxygen (different for each team?) and different weapon behaviors under water. Would guns jam underwater? Are bullets going to (realistically) not go straight underwater? Do Strogg energy weapons even work underwater? Would the bodies float up for people who die deep down? How do you defibrillate someone in water?
The list could go on⌠plus I canât even think of any objectives that would need to be underwater considering Strogg orbital deployment abilities and humans soon-to-be-stolen-Slipgates =P
I donât usually pipe in on these ârumorâ threads, but the water question certainly seems to have some basis in fact. I would strongly urge that full water movement be possible. Mappers can put in playerclips if they want to deny deep plungesâŚbut many times I have used a plunge into water to escape enemy fire, engage in knife fights against unwitting foes, or to gain a bit of cover. Make the water movement slow or add currents if you must, but I strongly favor the ability to use water for a bit of quick cover, or for jumping off a rock, etc⌠Confining players to the top 2 feet only favors the players on land, who are typically the defenders. In Wolfy, I liked that you had to be above water to shoot, but I loved a quick dip in the water to knife a foe, or sneak into the sewer, or whatever. Caen had some awesome knife battles!
What happens to vehicles? Are they all aqueous? What happens if the hover tank or the Titan tank encounter water barriers? Iâve seen in some videos that certain vehicles are indeed watercraft. If youâre going to have water combat, why not have reasonably realistic bodies of water?
What happens if I go geronimo from the Anansi to the lake? Do I get gibbed as soon as I touch the surface?
[13:35] <mortis_at_work> Are all ETQW water bodies âshallowâ?
[13:36] <mortis_at_work> or is that just nonsense rumor?
[13:36] *** Desoxy`away is now known as Desoxy
[13:36] <RR2DO2> They arenât shallow
[13:37] <RR2DO2> Though all soldiers are very good at floating
The only vehicles meant for water that I know of are the APC and the GDF boat, the hovertank might go over but I donât know. Non-amphibious vehicles straight-up take damage from water I believe - there was that one Kevin Cloud interview that said vehicles would take damage when you expect them to (like when running full speed into a concrete wall, etc).
I remember on the QuakeCon stage demo, there was that one Hornet that flew into the water and came up smoking and grounded =P.
So does going up hills. Should they make all the ground flat? :|[/quote]
If u see movement slowing down, you can go downhill, in water left, right, forward, back is all slow⌠if i understand right, et:qw will be all about front line. Keeping action all the time.
So the best is to make going on water unattractive for players, to keep them from swimming.
This are all things that everybody can have his own opinion, but you must look what will be the best for THIS game, thats i hope what SD is doing.
We talk/disputing to much, but thats because we canât wait to play it right . I hope that we will finally get a GOOD game to compete on.
So walk underwater? LOL
Strogg⌠doesnt have heavy equip⌠They explode underwater⌠i forgot that.
Nah have their suits deploy âfloatiesâ so that explains why they cant go under, and they look so dam cute!
Underwater swimming would add a lot of strategy for infiltration â see QuakeWorld TeamFortress, this gameâs grand-daddy. It added more action to the game, not less.
I think Bonoboy says that the water is VERY salt (maybe due to side effects of Stroggification?). Itâs difficult to swim underwater in very salt water.
Time will tell, nothing is final yadayada?
Its a good decision to leave out the underwater fights. The maps are large enough witout being able to go underwater aswell. In ET maps were smaller so going underwater didnt matter much. And since in QW maps there is so much water there would be just to much ground underwater to move about it would only distract you from the objective. After all there is so much free space on the ground, why go underwater?
Maybe, since Strogg are mad mostly of metal and prolly donât need to breathe air, we could have Strogg walking underwater since they are to heavy to swim ?
