To SplashDamage: Will be ET:QW shown or even be playable at the Games Convention 2006 in Germany? Besides the E3, it’s the biggest games exhibition…
ET:QW @ Games Convention?
i’d be more interested whether there’ll be a quakecon or not, with QW of course. anyway crusa, if there’ll be QW at the GC i hope you’ll provide us with at least one hour of high quality ingame footage
they say so, but i don’t believe it’s true. where’s the official announcement? it’s end of june … :uhoh:
There have obviously been a number of rumors circulating recently, but this is to let everyone know that QuakeCon 2006 has NOT been cancelled. We’ve had a number of issues securing a venue and dates that suit the needs of the event, the attendees, and the staff. This has taken many turns and longer than expected, but we are working very hard to get everything wrapped up and announced very soon.

so, a definate maybe
Would be nice to hear from a dev if they would be at the GC in addition to being at the Quakecon.
lol @ GC. i’ve read that at GC they have to run UT behind closed doors because of the “maturity” of the game. german law sucks.
We had this disussion before. I bet there are games which can’t be shown in your country, but would cause no problems in Germany.
Yea, but only concering violence in games. And even in that point it was improved - just look at Australian law - they can easily ban games because of there violence (just happened to ‘Reservoir Dogs’). Then it’s even illegal to own them (at least that’s what I’ve heard).
Here law can “only” prohibit commercials for games etc. - you’ll still be able to buy and own them. From what I know games can only be banned for unconstitutionality (like the English version of RtCW got banned because of containing swastikas afaik).
And concering sexuality in games our law is nothing compared to the U.S.'s, for instance (just look at the ‘Hot Coffee Mod’ for GTA).
But in order not to get too offtopic:
I don’t think that ETQW will show up on the Games Convention. First because it will be on the QuakeCon shortly before the GC - any news they want to announce they will announce there. Second because of our law - I just remember a presentation of UT2k7 on last year’s GC where the developer was talking and playing it on the pc - and then was shocked when he heard that the audience didn’t see a thing because of Youth Protection…

well, that’s right … also the laws for youth etc… are very friendly in germany e.g. alcohol and so on … i didn’t mean it in common just to that point just didn’t wrote it down^^

nope, not a single game. it’s still custom that you germans buy the 18+ games from austria :moo:
unfortunately they don’t make austrian cuts for the movies and btw: thank you germany for cutting Lilo & Stitch so that the movie gets down from age 6 to age 0. i dunno what our kids would have done if they would have seen the brutal violence of that movie …
GC is the largest fair for computer gaming in Europe. I hope some sd guys will show up at least at the Activision booth (when they don’t have their own).
How about the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival? Stick Wedgwood on a podium for a screener and take a break for a day or two catching some of the Fringe shows
I’m an Australian. Concerning Reservoir Dogs it has been given the classification of R18+ the quirk is that it’s illegal to sell R18+ games (not movies or music btw). So just because its illegal for stores to sell the game I can still get it imported from the USA/NZ as long as the person who receives it is 18. But in conclusion the OFLC are a bunch of old christian women with sand in there *******. As far as I’m concerned as a tax paying adult I should be able to purchase whatever “literature” I want from the damned shops.
i think it is even forbidden in germany to import forbidden movies, not sure if they lifted the law yet. anyone wonders why there’s piracy? if it’s forbidden for an adult person to watch what they want, then - seriously - screw the law.
and speaking of forbidden titles: @germans: if you intended to get dead rising for you xbox360, forget it. they announced yesterday that it won’t be sold in germany, the usk doesn’t even take a look at it. anyway, feel free to order it from austria
Well trading forbidden films/music/books/games isn’t allowed, but the possession is authorized as far as I know.
In a “games convention guide” that ships with PC-Action 9/2006 there’s a statement on the page of the Activision games that ET:QW might be shown.
Not sure if this is the wish of the “G|C” organizer or the author of this booklet or if this is based on Activision.
