Get this, my xbox can run Halo. Halo for xbox and PC aren’t all that different. My pc can’t run halo but can run ET. Therefore my xbox should be able to run ET. Makes sense right?

No, on Xbox Halo is good. It runs smooth and has co-op. On PC it’s a slow ugly crock of poop. People with top-spec comps can’t run that properly. The reason, it was designed for Xbox and later bodged and dragged through a fence backwards in a pathetic attempt to get it on PC. I have games that look a million times better with far more advanced graphics that run better than Halo. You can’t judge how a game will run from just looking at it, it depends on the coding. Getting it right on Xbox would be too big a task to bother with, it was a free unfinished game after all that’s already been deemed by the publisher not worth investing more money and time in.

SCDS_reyalP says Xbox only has 64MB of Ram. Think about that then look at the size of the maps in ET and you’ll spot the problem

Well, i guess I’ll take your guys word for it. You guys seem 100% positive that the xbox specs are crap and ET would never run on it. Maybe they could just make it xbox-working and sell it for $14.99 as a platinum hit for the services to port it. According to you guys, they would have to cut each map in half so as soon as you finish one objective, you have to sit in a loading time and continue after. I could live w/that. Plus, they would have to get rid of the rain in the radar level- too much laag.

BTW- favorite map was Fuel Depot. Anyone else still play/like that one?

Not true, cause they changed the Halo engine to take advantage of DirectX9

you can still play halo with DX8 but if you have a DX9 card you get better options

ET is a ressource hog, face it dude, port ET yourself if you really want it, i doubt they will make one, especially a multiplayer-only title for XboX.

…sorry to break it to all you pc techies, but when it comes to hardware, all that seems to matter is numbers, thats FREAKING OBVIOUS_so lets try to be a little truthful, ok?–ITS THE FREAKING SOFTWARE THE MATTERS, NOT THE HARDWARE!!!how do you not understand this?it can have all the latest alienware pc crap that you want, but if your running a bunch of pc software:you shouldnt expect a whole lot in terms of utilization, integration, optimizing, or pushing the hardware capabilities and possible potential preformance factor at all~im just saying that its the delopers that make a good game,(THE FREAKING CODE)NOT you wonderful numbers that you always say:64mb will do fine, we can have all of those maps on XBOX, no problem: just reformat(its all linux) all data through a digital-transfer(source de-coder) into the TIDES OF WAR engine and have virtual-memory do the rest!!!as for those who were complaining about features:EVER HEAR OF HDTV??ever hear about how halopc is total crap??EVER HEAR OF SURROUND SOUND??ever hear of how great killzone looks, and its running on ps2!!EVER NOTICE THAT ITS WHAT IS PROGRAMMED THAT MATTERS?!–well, i hope that you know by now that consoles arent up to the pc standard of having no connective software algorithms in its designs of everything that you claim is so great:i really am sorry to pain the pc gamers here with the truth…

hmm, interesting. No one I know (myself included) would have even contemplated the purchase of an X-Box had it not been for it’s ability to run most older MAME games at 100% of their original speed. Of course you need the cracked, illegal devkit to get it running (or at least, last time I looked you did) , but it looked like it might be worth it - the irony of this is that it’s the ‘large’ amounts of ram (for a console) that the XBOX has that makes the MAME stuff possible in the first place. For example, no N64 emulator could appear for DreamCast as it didn’t have enough RAM to load the cartridge images (I think even Mario64 is 8Mb)

I still have my DreamCast, still play games on it tbh - I have a copy of the unfinished, unreleased DreamCast version of HalfLife and I think it serves as a pretty good warning of the limitations of trying to port a PC game to console (and yup, even Q3 has framerate problems which it shouldn’t have had - DC could handle the polys and had totally amazing texture effects with PowerVR)

Brutus, you really seem to !know what you’re talking about.

Of course the Xbox would be able to run ET, without too much disk swapping.

:moo:

i just love it when non programmers make ‘authoritative’ statements about what can and cannot be done with the xbox.

indeed…

…you guys seem to only look at the level of the gpu chipsets that were present at the time of the xbox debut–it MAY be BASED off geforce3 core, but since there would be not only directx differences between an off the shelf accellerator as well as deticated cach to boot:its obvious that the XGPU is a highly modified core at that, not to mention that nvidia stated that the chip would be custom build specifically for the xbox(since the RAM is unified between the two, it should account for some machine FLASH changes as well:such as the total gigaFLOPS and BIOS of on system board)meaning that its NOT store interchangable such as what can be said for the cpu and the hdd~microprocessor and semiconductor technology can be just shoved into a box, such as your implying:but have you people EVEN TOOK A LOOK AT the chronicles of riddick:escape from butcher bay??you really need to understand that if they just shift some of the tasks to another component, but have the same perameters, it will run at peak efficiency from all of the shared buffering present–i hope that you pc gamers learn to research software in the future and its importance!!!..

rofl … schoolboy errors a plenty

(Sick Boy) #32

I’d vote this for SENTENCE OF THE YEAR !!! :eek2:

(velocity) #33

Why would you even want to play ET on an XBOX? No mouse makes it harder to aim… Also I don’t know if many ppl would want to pay for an XBOX game that doesn’t have single player… esp. since they can just dl it for PC anyways.[/img]

(Brutus4Ever) #34

…^^^OMG, what the heck is this man, FREAKING ENGLISH CLASS???you guys have some serious problems if the only comeback you can think of is"he needs to use speedcheck, the n00by schoolboy"just learn to think intelligently instead of constantly buying more pc stuff that will only be obsolete the next day–this will run probably better on XBOX than on even the best pc has to offer(at the time)if they do the right calculations for the XBOX’s MPDRAM~its just a matter of how well they can rework an app of those specs into the TOW engine:they both used the same texture maps(for the TOW egyptian levels as well as the entirety of enemy territory)so its not like splash damage is completely not used to the fuctionality of the XBOX–lets learn to be a little more open minded from now on as seeing that adapting with what the software has to offer, instead of just looking at the numbers like you guys always do, then you would COME TO REALIZE that under the current os, they could make an easy change of platform without even ever needing to go through the process of reverse programming of all the current files(we would just require an new auto updater application_driver_)…

(no_shad) #35

Brutus your posts seriously make me laugh.
I think you should pay more attention at school, otherwise i fear you’ll be stuck with a career in comedy.

(SCDS_reyalP) #36

brutus, poster child for the carb cleaner huffing set. For those of us who actualy write software for a living, your technobabble is obvious nonsesnse.

There is no doubt that ET could be ported to xbox in some form, given enough work. That wasn’t the original question. If it were, it would only be a matter of someone coming up with funds for development. Quite who would put up that kind of cash to port a free game is not immediately obvious.

(bani) #37

I’m betting brutus is around 12 years old or so… the giant run-on paragraphs and pseudo-technobabble sort of gives it away.

(Brutus4Ever) #38

…and yet again you never give a valid excuse to my reasonings other than a pathetic insult–its when you give NO REASONINGS to discredit my statements with all your accusations that i just stop listening to you~sigh, i really did have all the facts straight:i guess NO ONE ON THIS FRIGGIN’ WEBSITE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT PC’s–seriously you guys are the ones who need to go to school and learn about some computer technology(oh wait, all you do all day is sit in these forums and act like you know about electronics and insult the people who do:honestly YOU NEED A LIFE IF ALL YOU DO IS TRY TO ACT COOL on these loser forums)…

(bani) #39

/me wishes for an ‘ignore’ button on the forums…
