ET for Xbox

(devguy) #1

Can we get Wolfenstein Enemy Territory for the Xbox? We wanted more
downloadable content for Tides of War but we assume that isn’t going to
happen. I was thinking we could maybe get this game a facelift with
things like a few more levels, the Xbox-exclusive shotgun, and maybe some
ACTUAL Downloadable Content so we can get some of the popular PC maps.
Then you could make it an xbox platinum hit and sell it for $14.99. You will
make a lot of money off a game that was originally meant to be free; plus, this
will make up for the lack of DLC support on Tides of War.

PS: If there is nothing you can do about it, can you please give an email of someone who can? Thanks a lot.

off a game that was originally meant to be free

It originally wasnt meant to be free :expressionless: And i think splashdamage are the guys who made this game for Activision (or was it ID), so youll have to ask them I think

(blushing_bride) #3

it’s alreay been ported to cracked xboxes, or so ive heard. do a search of this forum as this has already been mentioned a couple of times

(Fusen) #4

im sure people were saying that the xbox couldnt handle the large maps or something

(Domipheus) #5

you can use the linux version with a cracked xbox as said above, but the performance may be a bit crappy.

(devguy) #6

does anyone know an email or phone number I can contact splash damage with? Obviously since the xbox version of RTCW and Pc’s enemy territory have the same engine, it can run it. Xbox live shouldn’t have any problems. And no, I don’t see myself installing linux on my Xbox.

(SCDS_reyalP) #7

733mhz cpu + 64 megs of ram + gf3 with shared memory = crap peformance.

From what I heard, they had to do a lot of work to make RTCW play well on XBOX (including changing some of the maps), and it has far lower system requirements than ET.

(Cyber-Knight) #8

actually no, ET and RtCW are coded differently.
which is why RtCW maps can’t be straight ported to ET. they need to be redone from scratch.

(Domipheus) #9

Seriously, dont phone them. you will be wasting your time.

Activision is who you should call anyway, if it were worth your while…

(blushing_bride) #10

mp_ice for xbox is half the size of the PC one. The map where you blow up the AA gun was made into two different maps for Xbox. Other large maps were not made for xbox at all. Now if xbox cant handle maps from RTCW properly i see no hope that it could run ET maps. Being a console fanboy i would love to see ET on a console but if they ever did decide to port it i suspect you’ll have to wait until xbox 2.

(devguy) #11

think you guys maybe are underestimating xbox. If it can handle Halo 2 and slightly downsized versions of Doom 3 and Half life 2, then it should be able to handle ET. And aren’t the xbox specs good enough? I ran ET fine on my comp a year ago w/
-athlon 2200
-tnt-2 32mb
-128 mb ddr memory

Xbox should be able to handle it. Plus, every one has the same system and they don’t have to config it for many.

(CM..Punk) #12

Read the post above, if they had to reduce the size of RtCW maps then of course it can’t handle the size of ET ones. And they aren’t going to port a game just coz someone phones them and asks. Plus it’s down to the publisher anyway. Plus I’m sure theyre busy enough working on the new game and if they had even 1 second of spare time then I’m sure everyone here would rather they made new maps for the PC one. Plus Xbox has a very poor resolution and framerate so you wouldn’t be able to compete fairly with a good spec PC user, PLUS how the hell are you going to aim with a joypad.

Just play it on PC, the game is there waiting for you, it’s meant for the PC, it would be better on PC. Leave your Xbox for Xbox games. Why don’t you like ET with a mouse/keyboard/monitor?

Btw Doom3 looks horrible on Xbox from those recently released screenshots.

(SCDS_reyalP) #13

:banghead:
The xbox has 64 megs of RAM, which is shared with the GPU. ET playes like crap even with 128 + 64 dedicated to the GPU. So there is no way in hell stock ET maps would play well on the xbox.

xbox is quite capable of nice graphical detail, assuming the content is designed arounds its limitations. ET wasn’t. Porting RTCW was a significant effort. Porting ET would be even worse.

(devguy) #14

Well guys, first, the online portion should work fine considering everyone has to have a high speed connection; no dial up. Next, w/ controllers, everyone has the same thing and even though a joystick isn’t quite as precise as a mouse, it is so minute a difference that you really don’t even notice. Plus, I use the FPS controller which is a big improvement over the xbox s-controller. Also, when you say ‘play xbox games on an xbox’, what do you mean? I play first person shooters on it- Halo, RTCW, CS. Also play PSO. Is that what you meant? Still unclear.

Whoever said the xbox has poor resolution, let me list the resolutions it can display
-640480i
-640
480p
-1024720p
-1208
720p (widescreen of above)
-10241080i
-1920
1080i (widescreen of above)

Just like pc, if you have a monitor/tv/game that supports those resolutions, then you can play w/them.

Finally, ‘why don’t you just play it on pc w/a keyboard and mouse?’ First this sounds pathetic but this is my graphics card- tnt2 32mb agp 4x. Family refuses to update thinking I will hog the computer. Second, I would rather sit on my couch and play games w/a big screen and my dolby digital system than sit in front of a small computer monitor w/stereo sound.

Xbox can handle ET. Plus with our new ‘tsunami’ feature, we can have the same features as you guys w/ creating mods and maps (finally).

If Xbox can handle Halo 2, what makes you think it can’t take ET? Which demands more, Halo 2 or ET? gotcha there huh?

(chavo_one) #15

xbox is quite capable of nice graphical detail, assuming the content is designed arounds its limitations. ET wasn’t. Porting RTCW was a significant effort. Porting ET would be even worse.

What about this quote don’t you understand?

Have you even played ET before? Seeing what graphics card you have, I would guess not. There have been many threads about increasing framerates with ET. People with faster computers than an xbox have problems running ET with any sufficient amount of detail turned on. The maps are just that much more ambitious than the old RtCW fare.

But the bottom line is that ET wasn’t designed with the xbox in mind. So a conversion would be a significant and expensive process. Something I doubt Activision would endeavor in seeing that most people would prefer to play the free PC version over buying a $50 xbox title.

(devguy) #16

Yes I have played ET before. Wouldn’t be asking for a game I never played. Ran it on that crap graphics card at 1280*1024 resolution w/dsl connection and had no problems (althlon xp 2200+, 128mb memory) Then went to friends house and played it there w/a (pentium 4 2.6 ghz, 512mb, Geforce 4 ti 4600 and same resolution and connection speed) and there wasn’t much of an improvement. He had some lighting things on I didn’t and didn’t even notice them while I was playing. Get this, my xbox can run Halo. Halo for xbox and PC aren’t all that different. My pc can’t run halo but can run ET. Therefore my xbox should be able to run ET. Makes sense right?

(SCDS_reyalP) #17

You still haven’t explained how an ET level is going to fit in less than 64 megs of RAM. In that area, I’m sure that ET is more demanding than halo 2. That doesn’t mean that it looks better or anything like that, it is a simple matter of how the game is put together. Halo 2 was designed around the limitations and features of the xbox. ET was designed to work on recent consumer PCs.

It’s like saying “my ferrari is has a really powerful engine, so it should be able to tow a trailer just as well as a Ford F350”. Except that the XBox isn’t particularly powerful compared to what ET requires, so its more like saying “my honda accord goes as fast as that F350, so it should be able to tow just as well” :moo:

edit:

No. That is exactly what you aren’t getting. You are comparing apples and oranges. :banghead:
Go back and read what people posted about the RTCW port. Now, understanding that ET requires more resources, in every way than RTCW, explain how you expect it to take less effort to port to xbox. Leave halo out of it. Halo was designed for the xbox taking into account all of its limitations. In particular, the XBOX has a GF3 level GPU. Your PC doesn’t. Hence, halo doesn’t play well (or at all) on your PC.

(Domipheus) #18

tbh, halo is nothing graphics wise anyway…

(Cyber-Knight) #19

Does RtCW XBox have the full version of mp_tram?

Cuz that is one map that can be somewhat fairly compared in size in regards to ET maps.

And how did they cut Depot into 2 maps? Depot is the all time classic dual objective map of RtCW. ahh… good ole fragging HP days.

(squadjot) #20

Depot rocked…both teams attacked/defended
