ENOUGH!!!

Lol@all the madbads offended by the grocery list of useful advice because it forces them to recognize they’re trash and don’t use most of it. Quit bashing the op, he’s being helpful to newbs…

(D'@athi) #42

@OP, I guess for most people even caring to read in this forum, most of your points are crystal-clear, but we simply ignore them, because we stopped to care about noobs, and do our missions the quick way.
No really, nice points made. Take the minimap/medic thing as an example. IF you play medic, you’ll need the minimap POINT… No discussion needed.
But on the other side, the times I play a tp-medic on a pub, which is the only kind-of-server I play atm, can be counted easily, because, most of the times, there’s simply no reason to get some/most? of teh mates. So, give me a few minutes on an average pub, and I’ll tend to use the medpacks as a help for me reducing my own downtime, in opposite to healing mates. Because, you know, they really don’t kill anyone, but hide.
And hell, I’d call myself medskilled on a good day, nowadays, at best, especially when not using sound, because there are better things to do besides.

(Ghosthree3) #43

There’s really no need for a minimap when everything shows up through walls.

(D'@athi) #44

Oh, even the people beeing down behind you? Whatever.

(Ghosthree3) #45

It’s just as easy to turn around as it is to look at the minimap, and it has the added advantage of you know, looking behind you.

(D'@athi) #46

Yeah, but sometimes, as a medic, it’s usefull to break out of a fight, and revive someone laying a few meters behind you, who you wouldn’t have seen, because you faced the enemy all the time.
But ok, probably this is dependant on the playing-style. As I wrote, I am not the most defensive medic, never was in ET, and with the pub-playing I’ve gotten more suicidal ;-). So I am used to be looking at the minmap quite often.

knowing what happens just behind u without turning is simply faster info and gives u time to think and organize your next moves. but sure np, every player has a different way to play. if it works for u and u are productive for the team it is fine for me also!

(Ghosthree3) #48

I’m sure that from player to player it’s different however I’d put forward that not only is it just as fast to spin around 180 degrees - which I can do very fast - as looking down into the corner of your screen, but it is also safer. The absolute last thing I want to do in this game is focus on a tiny corner/part of the screen and take my eyes off my crosshair.

Also the minimap is limited, the indicators for teammates in the 3D world has unlimited range iirc.

(D'@athi) #49

Mhm, but you have two eyes? Don’t you? And as there is no depth-perception in pc-displays, so you can focus on two spots a time with your two eyes? Yes, yes, average humans and their limitations.
Beeing Neo ftw!

As I said, it’s probably really the way you are used to play. Having “played many simulators”, you are used to, and at least, see some special events turning up at the edge of your view. And really, it doesn’t cost me anything, having this additional information availible the moment, I am not in a deadly combat, I am reloading, or I am getting ammo from a cabinet. cowers

Nah, probably everyone here reading this is better in playing his/her way than most of the people not reading it, and walking over corpses. Still I’d refrain of giving some advices like turning off the minimap for some fps, when you don’t know how someone playes.

Sorry buddy but the minimap just isn’t useful.
It’s actually be a disadvantage to look at it briefly vs keeping your eyes on the battle.

Name me one thing the minimap can do better vs. first person?

I agree.
DB in my opinion is just too fast paced for a mini map. I never look at it. You don’t have time to look at it.

Also you can remove the minimap in two ways.

  1. In console type “hudturnoff minimap” (however you have to keep doing it every time you die)

  2. In your config set:
    Minimapheight=0
    Minimapwidth=0

Works fine for me.[/quote]

It looks like it’s time to rename myself again. Tagging has become an issue :stuck_out_tongue:

(AirborneAsian) #52

Well I never/rarely look at the map at all. For me, I barely notice it’s there, because I am into the game. And when I sorted people with Red Eye, I never look at the map, only look around my camera/character to find people with the marker above their head. I didn’t even notice/care about it for like 3 days straight.

Also maps for games like Wot and Warframe is essential because it shows you the hidden areas in Warframe and enemies in Wot (a lot of flanking) since it is slow-paced. But a map imo doesn’t fit quite well in Dirty Bomb. I don’t mind having it, but it is really not necessary to use it.

(AirborneAsian) #53

And also, whenever i’m playing medic, I never ever look down at the minimap. I only try to find a broken heart above the teammates and go towards them and revive, imo.

(farmakoxeris.exe) #54

don’t use it then

(farmakoxeris.exe) #55

i think we spend too much time for a thing that clearly changes from player to player. there are tons of more important things and mistakes that most of the players do, to mention and find solution for them. minimap or not it’s just two different gameplay styles. choose which one fits u and makes u a better player, simple!

If you’re playing medic it can show you that 2 teammates are down just behind you.

Unless you want do constantly do 360 spins to check

(DadoPeja) #57

Whenu are on defending team on chapel and there are no skyhammers

(asparagusMist) #58

simple guide = play objective its not tdm KD ratio.the end.

(farmakoxeris.exe) #59

in fact, so far the skill of the players is transforming the game from objective based to deathmatch and that sucks in my opinion… and as we all see playing the objective is not that easy for everyone

Capable Vassili with those mercs or with Nader can make really nice fire support team.
