Enemy Territory: QUAKE Warsâ„¢ Announced!

(verto) #241

Great Idea changing game theme. I was a heavy enthusiast of original RTCW and ET:W implementations, but, I think a good idea dont give us MORE OF THE SAME. WW2 is a good theme, but we have a lot of games based on it.

I have some questions, if SD guys are allowed to answer:

  1. What’s the team size map? We will have a BF2 style, such 15vs15 or 30vs30 or we are going to ET and teams with 6vs6 or 7vs7?
  2. The game will come with championship implementations from developers (like OSP from team abuse for Q3 and RTCW).

Im really worried bout team size. I saw big maps and the vehicles makes me think in a BF2 based game. But I played ONSLAUGHT in UT2003/4 and there we have vehicles, and good clan team sized maps.

Bout Todd interview, he told 2 teams can work together to get a good rank. We will have more than 1 team playing in same side? Like a clan1 + clan2 vs clan3 + clan4?

Good idea to keep map objectives style! (STOPWATCH FOR THE WIN).

  1. Are there more game modes?
  2. What kind of PC do u guys think we have to buy to run this game? It’s heavy?
  3. What about maps size? From trailer seems we have big maps. Its true?

If u guys can’t answer my questions yet, I’ll understand. But plz, dont kill me: What the team based size in this game? 30vs30 or 7vs7?

I only have one question regarding the use of the doom3 engine: Will ET:Qw have any dynamic props? Or something the player can interact with? For example (like in doom3) where you have crates and barrels the player can shoot at or will move?

I’m happy that you don’t develop WW2 game again. That would be 3rd time in a row, and people don’t seem to realise that.
By the way: why there are no WW1 fps games, at least none that I know of ? There could be some unique stuff there, like chemical weapons and so on.

My question
I know it’s hard to judge by just 1 screenhot and 1 trailer (we all know trailers are traditionally made to be very noisy and show nothing), but is it true that there will be only/mostly open maps ? I have nothing to back this up except my suspicions.

Related to above: will Flamethrower be in the game ?! Pleeease, if you remove, you’ll break my heart ! If I don’t get my daily dose of napalm, I curl up in a corner and shake.

I’ll most probably buy ET:QW just because games you make simply rock. Q3F was a blast to play, even if it was a remake. But W:ET shows that you have your own identity, not to mention good balance and innovations.

two ideas:

basically i hate battlefield, but one thing was awesome and funny, and that was in BF:Vietnam when the vehicles drove by you and you could hear the music they played on their radio. would be funny if QW could do that too with the vehicles.

another nice thing would be if the players could modify the faces of their characters.

I read alot of replys and im happy we have alot of ww2 multi games and i never saw scfi multi fps except ut 2004 but i hate that :banghead: this is a very good idea well for the vechile problem i would recommend that there would be such mission’s where the maps and player numbers are small like 16 or 20 and one side would have a vehicle and the vehicle would go on a specifed route like at ET the vechile can be damaged but not destroyed fully this would’be like the old ET :drink:

My initial thoughts… dissapointed.
I was really hoping the hugely popular ET would be followed up by an updated, improved version using the D3 engine but in Realistic environments with real life combat. Not fancy a$$ed lasers, drop ships & all that made Tribes sux the phat 1.

I bagged BF2 on release & to me its the next gen of ET. It takes the stunning gameplay of ET & improves upon it 500% imho.
This ET|QW smacks of ID… ill bet Splashdamage have had their hands tied on the dev of this title & it looks like a D3 mod to me.

Sure WW2 games have been done time & time again… but theres a reason for that… .their actually damn good, people can relate to them.
I suggest they change the name of this project & get working on ET2 in a WW2 environment based on real world events from history using the D3 engine.

If i wanted a futuristic shooter i’d still be playing UT2004.
Mrp

Wow, great job SD. really looking forward to this!
Please don’t pay attention to the people who do give a dime about the “enemy territory/rtcw” community, in fact, i’d say go for consoles, thats where the money is.

I’m guessing you guys didnt get the rights to call this Battlefield Quake?
Nevermind this will blow BF2 away. This will be the best vehicle sim any pimple-faced joystick wielder will have seen. Forget hitboxes, just make one big blob so it’s an easy target for the tanks (who aims for hs nowadays anyways).
All we need now is an ironsight and crappy netcode.

BF has big maps - We have bigger maps!!
BF has lots of vehicles - We have more vehicles!!

Oh man is this great or what? I’m so sick of the originality that defines rtcw/et, i can now fly around in a Lazer-bomber-shooter-plane and kill everything without regards to teamplay/classes. Need to kill that medic before he revives his teammates? Bomb that side of the map and the problem is solved.
Lets go in a tunguska and take down the USMC’s chopper before it sees us LoLoL…wait wrong game.

I guess making ET earns you the right to use the name in any way you seem fitting.
That makes me glad this game has no RTCW in the title.

Bye and thanks for ban.

You seem to be convinced you know what ETQW is about, without having played the game. Hats off to you, mr nodey :moo:.
Let’s just hope you try the game someday… and change your mind :).

Is Salteh a Splash Damage employee now? :moo:

(Xipher) #250

Um, RTCW was also from brought to you by ID ya know.

Im happily waiting for ET:Quake Wars, and can hardly wait to see how it turns out.

(Joe999) #251

that brightens up my day and gives me hope that it’s NOT BF2 like. man, i hate these flag-capturing games which have absolutely no real objective. always the same.

looking forward to another video of ET:QW, hope you soon release other screenies.

however, whatever game you create, i’ll definitely buy it especially as i owe you one for ET

(Salteh) #252

I haven’t said, or didn’t try to say, anything about the game(play) itself btw
Just saying you should not try to judge a game after seeing a few screenshots and a trailer  :moo:

know that most people play online, but after the release of Battlefield 2 people are getting mad because the game only has 16 player limit single player mode and multiplayer mode has 32/64 player limit.

Also the bots allows you to play COOP with friends. People play a lot of COOP on LAN, and it really makes the game experiense a lot better.

1-2 weeks after the release of Battlefield 2 the single player community startet this online petition. http://www.petitiononline.com/coopBF2/petition.html almost 4000 COOP fans have signed this petition because they want COOP mode back (and this is only possible with bots, but BF2 allready have that).

Also, the developers of Quake Wars should take a look at this Battlefield single player community forum:

http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~bf42players/

This community has one goal. To improve the single player aspects of Battlefield.

Our members have made a total of 25002 posts
We have 1035 registered members

I know that Quake Wars is not Battlefield, but its almost the same aspect, so please consider to add bots.

Thanks!

ET:QW looks amazing! I can’t wait to have this installed in my computer :stuck_out_tongue:

(Th0mas86) #255

But no one cares… da-ah…

(petlion) #256

(5150 Joker) #257

I just want to say that PLEASE do not let these ET whiners to sway you. Many people have high hopes that your game will be a BF 2 killer and from the looks of it, it will. All I request is that you don’t try to make it a crappy sim like BF 2 has become. Give us fast paced arcade action with vast open spaces, vehicles and top notch physics. I’ve been spreading the word about this game around to other BF players and so far all of them like what they have seen in the trailer and screenshots. Keep up the good work SD, we look forward to this BF 2 killer! :drink:

(Joe999) #258

you do realize that what you write is a conflict in itself, do you? :bump:

first you call ET players whiners because they appreciate the work that SD gave to them. imo the success of ET is that it gives people fun to play together, with each other, in mostly close or central location (=objective). so what would you do with a large sim where everyone is spread all over a large map? you want arcade with vast open spaces and top notch physics? so what’s wrong with BF2? it has it all.what’s the real point why you don’t like it? maybe it’s just because it has vast open spaces, is ONLY a sim and gives absolutely no fun except you are a lonesome rambo?

nontheless whatever gametype SD creates, i’m confident that they know how to make gameplay that people can enjoy.

(Wils) #259

Funny use of the word ‘appreciate’, there

(Nocturne) #260

well one day SD will be bigger than Activision and ID combined rofl :drink:
