per poly hit detection in a open spaced first person shooter with vehicles? thats nonsense! also, the fuc*ing per poly hit detection was the main reason for the laggy multiplayer in doom3! quake4 will go back to hitboxes and the old/good netcode … i hope SD does the same … theres nothing worse than a bad netcode for a mp only game, dont u think?

headshots are totally enough, like in wolfenstein ET …

btw. ET is for free, can i take the assets and do a quake4 conversion? some of u people are whining that the new game from SD is no wolfenstein sequel, then just go ahead and do it for urself!

I can envisage ppl still sayin 10 years that the ETQW levels released in the game still don’t match the prowess / sexiness of the test level (ie I am too skint to buy the game!), woot!

First of all, I just want to say that ET:QW is going to absolutely blow the competition away. I’ve just been watching the E3 vids of QW and Half-Life2 lost coast, and I wasn’t nearly as impressed with HL2 as I was with QW:ET.

However, I am dubious about the vehicle stuff. Splash damage have a chance to make the best game this decade, or a big flop. What will decide is the vehicle implementation. There will have to be at least as many missions without vehicles as there are with them, otherwise this game is just going to be a nice-looking Halo clone with multi-player consisting of nothing more than trying to run the other player down with a tank/hover-bike/gerbil-powered-rocketbike (delete as appropriate)

To sum it up, then - I’m drooling at this game, and I’ll definately purchase it (as soon as there’s a Mac patch) but I’m really concerned that the vehicles are going to dominate.

i hate that vehicle stuff as well and like more the closer fights as it’s much funnier when all gamepals are fighting with/against each other instead if they were spread all over the map.

i wonder if there’ll be a modded RTCW:ET conversion to QW:ET engine with updated graphics. would for sure kick ass.

Had this few idea. May be total rubish, but just wanna post it. Tell me what’s wrong if you totally hate it and have a good point, I’m quite reasonable.

Most / some guys ask to reduce the levels with vehicles in it or at least half without. Agreed, but what if you had some sort of driving skill coupled to XP?
If you first need to aquire some skill to drive a vehicle quite good, it may reduce those guys immediately hopping in a vehicle and speeding away to hunt down pedestrians.

Own remark: it ain’t that good for balance, since some may be longer on the server and have a higher skill. :confused:

Can we get a thread for suggestions of what we’d like to see in the game?

Great news that a new Squad-based game is being developed. Breaking away from the WW2 theme is fine & the Strogg/Human war gives a chance to allow totally different playing styles rather than just the same models with different skins & weapon sounds.

Getting the balance is going to be crucial though. Just like stategy games teying to get Unique “Races” with unique units that are equally balanced is a fine line.

Also trying to combine Sqaud-based Close combat with Vehicular combat is going to be very tricky. Almost two different styles of game.

Maybe the Campaign system is the thing that will bring it out best. Campaign branches starting at a particualr scenario with different maps being loaded depending on outcomes of previous maps.
i.e If the stroggs win the initial invasion map they get to move onto the “beachhead” breakout. If they lose they have to guard a defensive position against a Human Counter-attack until the next wave lands. . .
