Enemy Territory: "ET.exe has encountered an error...&qu

(raw) #21

k i managed to fix this, someone on irc suggested underclocking my pc to give it a try and it actually worked, pointing the problem at teh cpu its self.

I dropped the fsb down to 100, so my athlon xp 2000+ (1.6ghz) now runs at 1.25ghz and it works great

Give it a try and see if it works, its not the best solution but it does allow u to play et.

(Trigger) #22

Yeah - this has been happening to me also - it’s the reason I found this page. Anyway - I’m having the same problems as others here… game locks up and I get an audio loop and XP asks me if I want to send an error report - which if I choose yes will lock me up pretty good, so I choose no.

Specs -

Athlon 2000+
512MB DDR
GeForce 4 ti4200
Soundblaster Audigy Platinum
Windows XP Pro
I have updated all the video and audio drivers and have installed all the latest XP updates. It’s frustrating. Glad to see it’s not just me and hope there’s a patch soon.

(Trigger) #23

:bump:

Seriously - I’m still getting crashes all the time - I’ve tried it on other PCs and it doesn’t crash. Maybe it has to do with Windows XP Professional versus XP Home? I have XP Pro. Any patches coming soon? I play this daily and would hate to have to quit until patches come out.

(Powerhead) #24

i updated to 44.10 drivers and now it works!!

Fino tinto…

(Trigger) #25

how long did you play with that, cuz I updated to the 44.10 drivers and it worked for over an hour and then crashed finally. I’ve tried everything - I’ve even tried uninstalling and downloading again and reinstalling.

(Skin) #26

I’m still crashing all the time.

I have put aside ET and am back on BF until this is fixed as it is starting to get too annoying for me.

(Powerhead) #27

It don’t work any more. :banghead: :banghead:

(Spookstah) #28

Some games work more stable and/or faster when running in Compatibility mode under Windows XP.

Goto the game exe file - right mouse click - properties - compatibility mode - tick on Windows 98 / Windows ME

See if this also works for ET.

(Skin) #29

I have sent a screen shot of the error and my dxdiag information to the activision help page.

If they find a solution I’ll let everyone know.

(Chiller) #30

I too noticed the common denominator of an AMD cpu. I doubt that is a factor, however I long ago quit using AMD processors for reasons of incompatibilty and driver ussues. That was back when the Athlon first came out. Been using Intel since then and my systems have always been rock solid. I also never used Windows 98. I used NT 4 WS until W2K Pro came out and have recently switched to XP Pro. Very stable setup, never a BSOD or problems.</br>

([=O=]SMYLER) #31

Latest Nvidia beta drivers (work for me 100%) :

http://www.warp2search.net/article.php?sid=12727

Hope that helps people.

I never had a problem with either my my 1800+ or my new 3000+, but it might sort out someones problems, let us all know if it does.

(Powerhead) #32

Errors, errors…No driver can solve this prob!!!
Game is corrupt and thats it!!! :banghead:

Amd Athlon 2000+
512 ram
Geforce 4 mx420

(Chiller) #33

Not the game, maybe your hardware does not like it. Runs just fine on my system. Maybe download another copy or something.

(Lopov) #34

It definately has to do something with the net code; after the error
and I am back at desk top, the modem is going crazy i/o and I’m not
doing anything with the net. It doesn’t fix until i power off the modem and reboot and still wait about a minute. Then my modem connection is fine again.

(Trigger) #35

Looks like people with Athlon 2000+ or thereabouts are having problems. That’s gotta be alot of people. Is SD even working on a fix?

(Powerhead) #36

It’s a compatible prob!!
Wolfestein causes the same prob as ET??
This did never happen before?

I have tried everything and nothing works except reinstall everytime I want to play… :blah: The reinstall prob does not affect Wolfenstein if I don’t update it to 1.41

Here is the appcomp.txt for Et:

I get different error messages:

Server disconnected for unknown reason

and

CL_ParseServerMessage: read past end of server message

Im certain that people in this thread are having different failure issues.

Some sound like PB / Firewall issues, some sound like hardware -

NachtJager - if RTCW used to but no longer works, Ill bet youre having a hardware failure or PB issues. Ill assume you disabled PB and joined non ET servers to eliminate PB as the cause.

I have read/contributed to other threads in SD forums and seen heat be the cause of lock-ups. Ive also seen RAM go bad, and the PC runs fine until you try to do something different w/ it, like install and run a game.

Q3 engine is still used as a benchmark b/c it puts a thorough beating on hardware - CPU - memory subsystem - grfx cards. If you underclock a CPU and ET works, HEAT is your issue.

I also promise you that the game may freeze ( KB and mouse too) but the OS is still working fine under it, when grfx cards overheat. Get on roger wilco or voice com of choice, talk to someone while you join a server. When the games freezes and you can still talk on voice com, its your grfx card over heating.

CPU overheating will hard lock your PC.

RAM failure can show up in bizarre ways, and even go undetected until a program tries to write memory address lines to a particular physical space on your memory chips. PB runs resident in RAM, and does scan it for running cheats. It also scans the hard drive.

I overclock my athlon 1.7gig to 2.23gig, Im overclocking its clock speed and FSB speed, I have absolutely NO PROBS running ET.

Troubleshooting for heat can be as easy as taking cover off PC, you may need to have a table fan blowing air on it while you join a game and see if freeze issue comes back. If youre sitting infront of your PC and sweating, your room temp is too high for the PC to run ET w/out choking.

Id be happy to help anyone troubleshoot the issues they are having. You can PM me and Ill give you the IP for my Team Speak server so we can talk, or do it thru instant messaging.

Powerhead, you have a big pile of checksum errors,

probably RAM but possibly hard drive related.

Download memtest and prime95, both free proggies.

You boot to memtest off a floppy and it starts testing your ram, errors shld occur w/in 10 or 20 mins of running it, if your RAM is going tits up.

Prime95 is an overclockers fav stress test, it will get your CPU very hot very quickly as it computes huge prime numbers which it then checks for accuracy, if prime95 stress test fails, your CPU is performing incorrect calculations. If your PC locks, its CPU heat related.

I also wanted to metion that a failing power supply can also produce strange errors that are hard to pin point. So dont give up, and I am happy to help anyone who asks.

(Powerhead) #40

Ran memtest and prime95 and no probs???
Every other game works flavless??Except ET and Wolf 1.41???

Nothing more to do than to forget this free game

Thanks for all your help…
