Enemy Territory: "ET.exe has encountered an error...&qu

(NachtJager) #1

I’ve spent many hours trying everything I and anyone else can think of to get Enemy Territory to work! This forum may be my last resort.

I’ve discovered that Return to Castle Wolfenstein doesn’t even work. It used to work flawlessly. It’s getting the same error message as Enemy Territory. I have no idea what could have happened to my system to cause this error to be prevailent.

OK, so here’s the run-down:

I happily  installed Enemy Territory after learnng of its release. I loaded Gamespy and launched a server filled with anticipation. The laod-screen blank map appeared along with a blank column on the right. I thought these being blank were strange, but I shrugged off the curiosity and waited. Suddenly a glimpse of game specs. briefly flickered on the screen. The screen went blank again. After several more seconds, it happened again. This went on until I receieved the infamous error message:

“ET.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience…”

I thought this was a one-time just-my-luck scenario, so I tried another server. The same error message popped up! I’ve actually managed to enter into a few games, but after a few minutes the freeze with a haunting broken- record sound loop. I’ve somehow gotten to the point where the load-up screen displays information in the right-hand column such as “connecting…” and other info.

It really makes me mad because it used to work, but now it doesn’t. Could it be my ISP - AOL?, Windows XP?

I have a router, but I have the same problem after disconnecting it and linking the DSL modem directly to the computer.

I’ve run out of ideas. I hope someone out there knows the answer because I certainly don’t.

A lot of people are actually having the same problem. Maybe we can rule out possible causes such as ISP, operating system, router, etc. They’re all related somehow.

I have hardware and drivers that surpass the minimal requirements, so I’m pretty sure that isnt’ the problem.

Please help.

well a good start might be to list your system specs:
e.g. mine are:

Athlon 1400Mhz
768Mb 266DDR Ram
Asus KT266 mobo (latest 4in1 drivers)
Asus 7700 Geforce 2 ultra Graphics (44.03 nvidia drivers)
Onboard C_media sound
Windows 2K Sp3
MS keyboard & optical mouse.

If all the players you know with this problem post their specs,
perhaps we’ll find a common denominator

Have you tried joining a server from the in-game browser ? (might be a
gamespy problem)

Hope you get it sorted… you really are missing out :frowning:

Thats exactly my problem now, locks up with the looping sound & if i dont control / alt / delete it i get the ET has caused an error etc etc

My specs are from eyeworld (boom boom)

AMD Athlon XP 2000 +
512mb ddr
GF4 Ti4800 SE (Chaintec)
SB Live 5.1

(raw) #4

Also i might add i’ve tried hosting a game from the in game menu and it still crashes, so its not an online game browser thing or punkbuster as ive tried it on servers without pb.

(Wils) #5

raw: when you’re playing on non-pb servers, do you have pb enabled or disabled?

(raw) #6

I have to admit i havent physically disabled it when playing on nob pb servers.

I’ve gotten this ET.exe error a few times already too. Seems totally random though, as I am able to play with no trouble 99% of the time.

Athlon 2000+
512 DDR
GF4 Ti4200w/128MB (43.51 drivers)
Asus mobo w/nForce chipset
XP Pro, all updates (Dx9 etc.)

(Skin) #8

I am getting the same error at the same occassion.

I have a GF3 ti200 with the 44.03 drivers. It used to happen but not as frequently as when I upgraded my drivers.

I am going to roll back my drivers (xp) and see if it fixes the frequency problem until a patch is released addressing this issue.

Someone (someone) needs to put their finger on this problem. I’m getting really ticked!

Could it be the XP service packs? I use to run RTCW multiplayer games flawlessly. I haven’t played it in a while and when I checked I received the same error I’ve been getting on E.T.

OK, so when I bought Wolfenstein about a year back, it played flawlessly on my computer. The multiplayer aspect worked like a charm. I played it every now and then and stopped once I went back to school.

A few days ago, I downloaded and installed Enemy Territory. That’s when I receieved the error message. All this time I thought it was that game or the server.

I just installed Return To Castle Wolfenstein (I deleted it a while back since I wasn’t playing it). Now, when I even try to access the single player screen after the intro movie, it freezes with that infamous error message. So, I think maybe it’s a Windoes update. I’m not sure if it’s XP since I can’t remember if I had it when I played RTCW and I haven’t changed any hardware.

I did replace the CPU fan. Might it be a heat problem. My new one had a black film on the bottom (heat sync. material). The old one had the white paste. That probably wouldn’t make a difference, would it.

We need to find out what we all have in common.

I am having similar problem on my machine, game freezes after some time.

I noticed one common thing in all which is the processor : AMD Athalon
It may be 3D Now! causing the problem, just a thought

My specs:
AMD Athalon XP2000 512 DDR
Windows 2000 Pro
GeForce Ti 4200 with latest drivers
DirectX 9

(NachtJager) #12

Hmmm…could be…

I did notice the term 3D Now as Enemy Territory was launching. For a brief moment, a console came up with some info. I couldn’t read fast enough along with the repeated word CRASHED.

On the bottom, it said 3D Now…

Hmmm…

No way lads, thousands of people are running ALL the various incarnations of Athlon on both RTCW and ET (me included) with win xp and they don’t have ANY problems. I guarantee 100% your problem is software (of whatever type) specific.

(Skin) #14

While I too have an AMD (Thunderbird) I highly doubt it is the reason behind the problem.

As I mentioned before I changed my graphics card drivers and now the instances of crashes has been greatly reduced. It still exists on average once every 2 hours but it isn’t as bad as once every half hour like it was before.

(cybdmn) #17

My ET freezes the complete system after ca. 15 min. of playing.
No ESC. No CTRL+ALT+DEL, …nothing. And unfortunately no error message.
The only way to end this desaster is to hit the reset button on my comp.

RtCW runs like a dream.
