Enemy Territory and a firewall?

(Hatswitch) #41

can the problem be that i have 2 networkcards?

Aha! I’ve seen similar problems in Linux with multiple network cards (specifically with Soldier of Fortune 2). Switch around the settings for your network cards (whichever is being used for the LAN, make it the internet, and vice versa). See if that fixes it.

(Qraft) #42

I have seen that people with routers dont get the game to work, maybe its that, that cause the problem.

Check this out: http://www.purenetworks.com/products/portmagic/ .

The program didnt work. It dont support my router, so it say.

(playero) #45

I got also a router but i dont have problems with games but with some applications like file sharing or messenger. But I got a friend he has a similar problem. He could also play the rtcw demo without problems but NOT with enemy territory, sometimes he doesnt get the server list or he connects but its a “connection interrupted” spamming. He also blames splashdamage for the damage, he really wanted to play this game! (me i play the game nicely with a little too high ping :disgust: ) He uses a router (eumex) and a isdn connection. Maybe somebody could help because i need a partner! :drink:

It would be nice to play the game :bored:

What type of router do you have? is it running as a dhcp server(ie. assigning ip address’ to your lan pc’s?)

You should have an option to either forward ports or place a PC into the DMZ.

Forwarding port 27960 (I think that is the default port for ET)
you should be able to specifically enable a port to forward to an ip address on your home lan. (ensure you enable udp). I know you said you opened all ports but this will be much more specific, effective & safer!

If that dosen’t work place your PC into the DMZ & see if that works, nb: I do not recommend leaving it in the DMZ as this leaves your machine completely open to the internet. but if it works under the DMZ then u know it is just your router settings.

If none of the above works, then there is something wrong with your local network setup, the 2 lan cards is the most likely the issue. but you will have to give us a description of your setup.
how many pc’s do you have on your lan
do they connect to the internet/router through your pc(2 lan cards)
or do they connect directly to the router for internet access
If your 2nd lan card is not being used, disable it or completely remove it.
Please tell me you are not using Win ICS?

Post a bit more about your lan setup & we will see if this can be solved.

p.s. if you are reolving the et master server than the problem is not outbound but rather that your network is not allowing an incoming connection. The easiest way to test & I have heard that this sometimes will allow you to start receiving server list updates, is to join to a server by direct IP connection…try this one 218.1.92.225…it is in China & for low IP’s so depending on where you are in the world you may not be able to, just find an ip closer to your location.

here goes:
I have tried Putting my pc in DMZ, and it didnt work.
I have tried to connect manuely to a ip, and that didnt work.
its 2 computers that are connected to the router, and the router is connected to the dsl modem. the 2:nd networkcard is disabled.
The router is a D-link

Okay then you have a real problem with your network either of these should work!
1.Are any other programs able to access the internet, aside from I/E?
We will need to break down your Lan setup so I can understand how to forward ports properly.
lets see if we can figure it out, step by step, we may reconfigure your Lan, but thats cool, no biggie.

[quote]its 2 computers that are connected to the router, and the router is connected to the dsl modem. the 2:nd networkcard is disabled.[quote]
2.Is your router DHCP capable & is that enabled or do you have manually assigned fixed ip addresses?

[quote]The router is a D-link

Cool same as me -
3. What model is it (please post) & have your upgraded your firmware? do so here–>http://support.dlink.com/downloads/

4.Is your internet connection a ppoe??? your router should be what connects to the internet & your PC should just have a lan connection to the router, is this the case or do you actually activate the internet connection from your PC?

This is going to take a fair amount of time, & I will keep asking you questions until we get sorted out, BE PATIENT! & don’t give up, I have a spare pc & router here so I wll emulate your setup & then resolve & post the solution. Please answer all the ?'s I have preceded with a numeral.

i think the problem is the hardware firewall which only can be solved with an updated firmware (ask the router´s company hotline) what i dont understand is what ET has to do with it ,because you can play other online games right?

(Nitrous) #51

I’m having the same problems, I have a DLink DI-804 ADSL/Cable Gateway device. I’ve tried everything suggested here already, and I’ve never encountered this problem before with any other game. Which is rather strange - I was playing it from work last night and was located behind a cisco firewire…

I just upgraded to a (beta?) version of firmware (v205B - australian version) with no improvement. (The previous non beta version was the one I was originally using)

Using path finder I got a list of servers - so it’s communications are ok, both incomming and outgoing… But i can’t connect with in the game. Maybe the dlink support engineers may have already found a work around for such behaviour?

(Qraft) #52

Well look at that. I have a DLink DI-804 to. hmmmmm, how about that.

(kUUh) #53

this is kinda obvious but glanced through the thread and didnt see it mentioned. have you checked that on zonealarm you have allowed all access for et.exe, as in access and server, trusted and internet.

(SwineHund) #54

Have you actually setup your router to forward to port 27960…???

(Qraft) #55

kUUh: yes i did.

SwineHund: i hade open all ports.

Edit:
SwineHund:

  1. i have no problem with the internet, onley ET dosesnt work.

  2. i think so, i dont manually assigned fixed ip addresses, the router do.

  3. its a DI-804

  4. whats ppoe?. the modem is connected to the router´and our 2 computers is connected to the router. I have to activate the internet on my computer.

Thanks for all the help SwineHund.

Sorry it took so long, but I had trouble with the registration process.

Your problem is NOT Nat, the DLink Di804 has issues that have not (to our knowledge) been addressed. It always has. It works great for some applications/game and not at all for others. Exchange the 804 for a Di704 or Di707 or a Di604. These all work. We (our company) have removed all the Di804’s from customers sites and have replaced them with one of ones mentioned.

(Qraft) #57

i would buy a new router if i had the money :frowning: oh well, guess i have to wait before i can play the game :banghead:  :bored: :frowning:

(BoneZ) #58

I wonder if theres any other protocol you can use, I remember haveing some problems with quake3 and my router a while back and i set it to use socks insted of Udp. Eventualy i got a different router and i’ve never had any problems with it since.

(Nitrous) #59

Hey Smite, I suppose you raised a support query with Dlink then before you replaced the devices? If so did they give any indication that they could/would fix the problem eventually?

(Smite[TLD]) #60

Yup… got a “Duhhh” Don’t get that very often from them. Generally they are very good at supporting the field.

It was cheaper for me to replace the unit than to lose the customer. These soho (Small Office Home Office) routers are so cheap now … $50-60 usd. You can probably sell the 804 on eBay for near what you pay for the replacement.

Like I said these units are weird, they work very well in some applications, and not at all in others.
