Enemy Territory and a firewall?

(wudan) #21

What does it say when you load up the full game? When it first loads, you should bring down the console and wait for a minute, it’ll try to resolve the server list server (there’s a good name for it that escapes me right now), does it resolve that?

From there, are you able to see servers when you try to join a game? Maybe you don’t have it set up right, try setting up a new player profile?

when i have started the game is says in the consol:
etmaster.idsoftware.com resolved to 192.246.40.60:27951”

and when looking for servers is says:
“Requesting servers from the master…”
and nothing more.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Perhaps performing a clean install of WinXP, after reformatting your harddrive, will do the trick. I have solved many mysterious problems by doing just that. I can tell you this: ET is worth the effort.

You might first try just removing ET (final and Test, if you still have that installed) and reinstall ET from scratch IN A NEW FOLDER.

(Qraft) #24

Re-installed the game 3 times, and it didnt work :frowning:
Maybe have to reinstall windows :banghead:

(BOOTSAUCE) #25

If you do reinstall windows, make sure that you format the C: drive and do a fresh install. Simply applying a new install over an old install is only asking for trouble.

I hope everything works out.

Listen up bitch, you probably have NAT… look it up what it is.

If you do have NAT you might have to open up a port.

If that’s not possible then fuck you. I hate NAT

Listen up bitch?

Hey buddy, this ain’t a Snoop Dog forum, so maybe you could avoid referring to your fellow forumers as “bitch”.

Now, what on Earth is NAT?

In the options section, go to system, and lookat the bottom where it says “network” and set it to dsl/cable.

(Chiller) #29

NAT is “Network Address Translation”. It is a simple firewall type that most small home routers use when your connected to a ADSL/Cable connection. I have been using a Netgear RT311 for 3 years with no problems on everything from an ISDN, ADSL to my current T1. It works fine if set up properly.

Just remember skybuck is like a 12 year old kid (punk).
He was in one of our ET testservers, literally hours after the ettest was out, running around killing teammates saying/spamming " your all newbies, I can take everyone out like rambo" ect… Has only played the rtcw demo. He does not own full RTCW.

IGNORE the little punk kid.

oh my god newbies all over the place !..because now I can take allies and axis on at the same time like rambo- skybuck

That’s a riot, and not at all surprising.

(Qraft) #32

I reinstalled Windows…and it still dont work. And to the little kid

i open every port on the firewall and it didnt work.

(FstFngrz) #33

try this:

get this simple free trusted program called pingplotter from here http://www.pingplotter.com

Then using the program run a “trace route” on the etmaster server, this will show you the where the problem is in reaching the etmaster server.

etmaster.idsoftware.com:27950 or 192.246.40.60:27950

you will need to drop the :27950 when you enter it in the top left hand box in pingplotter. PingPlotter has good instructions with pictures.

(Qraft) #34

how do i see whats a problem and whats not?

(FstFngrz) #35

In the above picture the first ip would be your computer and if you had entered the etmaster server ip in the search box, that would be the last one. If ya cant connect the dots all the way ya got problems or if it shows packet loss. “Kinda like someone cut or frayed the string on your kid phone (string w 2 cups)”

i.e. this program will tell you if (and how well) your computer can “talk” to the etmaster server (or your favorite gaming server).

PingPlotter has good instructions with pictures.

(Qraft) #36

well, it looks like this:

(FstFngrz) #37

I’m still learning myself, maybe some one else can shed somelight, but from what I see, the first line I think is the problem.

(Qraft) #38

can the problem be that i have 2 networkcards?

(Steve) #39

Since it’s resolving the master server it seems like your signal is getting out. Try starting ASE, find a server with a good ping, get the ip and manually enter it into the console when you start ET.

\connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (I don’t remember if you need the port #)

(Qraft) #40

I have tried The All-seeing Eye, but it wont connect with the server. it says waiting for cennection, but nothing happens.
