Pretty doubtful it’ll be like that.
Edge Lighting(Radioactive Goo)
Yeah but you see, it’s a stepping stone. Beginners need to learn how to deal with smoke.
Tokamak, you’re basing this all off of a perceived duality that either we don’t have the glow at all or that if we do have the glow, then it is only a matter of time before the entire genre succumbs to oversimplification/casualization. It’s the same deal as someone else coming in here and claiming that no one-shot kills will eventually lead to games only having one weapon.
Also, voice chat is turned off by default, and that hasn’t made anyone else come out here that doing so will lead to a bad community. I personally don’t see the problem with the glow; it serves a purpose, but servers still have the option to have it on/off, just like voice chat and whatnot.
That’s not true, I’m not making a slippery slope argument here. It’s but a single flaw on an otherwise impressive game. It’s just a very big flaw.
when i first saw the edges glowing i also didnt like it. still dont like it at all actually. i dont want to detail why, tokamak did it pretty good already.
im not as radical though. only thing i am concerned is, if i can also turn it off, client side.
i personally would like to disable the hud completely (or costumize it as much as possible), but thats a different story.
i dont understand the devs sometimes. the designers created such a great artwork. the environments and the characters look amazing. actually brink is heavily advertised for its unique art style.
and what is happening? by trying to make the game more easy and more accessible by adding glowing edges around characters the opposite is happening. i think the casual gamer might be overstrained by the amount of stuff glowing and popping up on the screen. it distracts where it should support the player.
well. but i dont really care as long as you give me g_showhud. (or was it com_showhud? you know what i mean)
No one, it’s an assumption, but I think it’s a good one.
We actually haven’t seen any smoke, maybe Maawdawg saw some when he played (only smoke I know about is the caltrops smokescreen thing from the operative).
The devs have explained that the PC disk can hold considerably more than an xbox disk, to me that’s kind of a hint (prolly just wishful thinking), but to decide before release to buy or not buy seems odd to me. I will be buying it for console for the kids I work with, but I’ll decide if I want to play and buy after I see the released game. I doubt Bethesda would allow SD to say “We got all this extra stuff for you PC guys” a month before release, although the Bethesda moderators would have to work 24/7 if they did, they would have more locks than Leavenworth every hour
but, we’ll see, could be a piece of crap, I’ll wait to decide for myself
but to decide before release to buy or not buy seems odd to me
But that’s what most people did
We all already know that ports tend to be of lower quality than games designed specifically for a certain platform. We also all already know that Brink is being developed (or was being developed; they’re done now) separately for each platform to ensure high quality. So no, the console versions aren’t holding the PC version back in this case.
To me this move is nothing but, like the article said: made for the lowest common denominator, and then applied across the board.
This. So much
And it’s all lies, too. Not buying BRINK olol, yeah, of course.
I’d personally only criticize that this is horrible for aesthetics of the game. But in one of the recent videos with new gameplay footage I didn’t notice any extensive glowing so everything looked fine.
It’s not really dumping down. The best FPS players play with bright models and super low quality and other stuff anyway, it’s not that bad if there’s some help for normal people like me who want to enjoy teh nice graphics as well as being able to see the enemy
I remember you talking about the option of hiding better without the glowing once (am I rite?). Imo that’s complete bull**** since that would mean people with clothing fitting the level would get an advantage lol

Lol you present it as if it’s an extra challenge. If graphics are a concern then simply apply a mininum standard. Anything lower is cheating.

I didn’t see any smoke but the characters we played were only leveled to 7 so I don’t even think caltrops and smoke grenades were selectable at that point. Basically I am no help on this one as far as if the colored rim effect would show through them.
I still think the outlines are being blown a bit out of proportion though.

Agreed, especially considering you can turn them off on PC. If I were a console player it might bother me a little, but not much since I’d be playing further from the screen with reduced resolution; so I’d probably even be happy they were there in that case.
Everyone who is butthurt about being able to see your enemy a bit better is just mad and wont be buying the game. tl;dr.
It’s a tiny aspect to the game and I have to question anyone’s actual resolve to buy the game if this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
The converse is also true then. The sniper stuff has been nerfed anyway.
So, you and the normal gang has problems playing contemporary shooters then?
Then that will just put you at a disadvantage.
The obvious.
It is more than a flaw. Adding in-your-face visual cues to shift the focus on killing people when the primary goal is to accomplish objectives is akin to putting a Deathmatch mode when the game is designed around objective-based gameplay.
