Doom3 engine games are loading slow

(!ntraxz) #1

It has been while since i played a doom3 engine game (quake4, prey), but when I tried it a few minutes ago, it started up very slowly. I had to wait 5 or more minutes to get in the main menu! :? I tried to restart my pc, but it didn’t help. I really don’t know what is the problem, because when i played prey and doom3 for the last time, it went perfectly. other games, like F.E.A.R. perform well.

Hello Forum,

yes thats true, but under Linux Quake 4 loads very fast i have the feeling that also the gameplay is more float. Possible that my GeForce and OpenGL is the reason.

Got the same Problem with Warsow after copying all the q3 textures… (Got this problem with a LOT id engine based games ._.)

Try cleaning up the base folder (custom stuff…) and delete the config (the generated one, something like *.config.cfg). This should help. If not, reinstall^^.

@the q4 problem: New graphic drivers will help.

@Jung:
FSF has Spambots? :frowning:

An OS doesnt have anything to do with a game’s performance btw… (drivers do)

(!ntraxz) #8

new drivers didn’t help

(NoControl) #9

Defrag all drives.

:? …its called: how to run quake4 as a slideshow…thats simple…

(General.Jung) #11

Hello fart666,

no it runs very good also under windows.

(fart666) #12

not with 256mb vga onboard ram, it chunks like hell and is unplayable…but hey, i know peeps running this game with a 7300…le… so, whatever…

(Sebultura) #13

The bigger the load time, the lower the map cuts (who said HL2 ? )

(Ragnar_40k) #14

Rezipping the pk4 files with lower/no compression might help (at the cost of disk space).

(fart666) #15

…and the cost of invalid file checksum? :expressionless:

…and the cost of invalid file checksum? :|
Who plays d3 mp?^^.

(murka) #18

not anymore, i have the problem of setting detail to max and with it i have only 10-20fps :S

(space) #19

I run quake 4 at 60 FPS under all conditions with the following machine…

AMD athlon 64 3200+
ATI x850 XT PE
1 GB corsair RAM
7200 RPM HD
580w OCZ PSU

game settings medium, shadows on 1440x900 resolution and a few CFG tweaks.

The game looks beautiful and I never go under 60 FPS which is the games cap, so it runs even better then it looks.

Now that is a 4 year old machine, sure I’m over clocked a little but… it runs flawlessly (even on player made large outdoor maps with big skys and 16 people in a server) so if you have similar system specs I would imagine ET:QW will run well for you.

I can only hopee it does for me XD

It’s not the framerate. It loads very slowly. i have to wait 5 min. just to get into the man menu.
