Do you want female models in the game?

I think this statement is the one to close the case. How “unopen” some people are.

This is the quake universe, not our universe. If you are comparing real life to ETQW, then strogg will really be invading earth. In the quake universe, women aren’t allowed in the army until events of quake 2. Done. Case closed.[/quote]

Huh? Please elaborate on how my ridiculously absurd idea is “unopen”… :o

Actually I was saying that your statement is the one to close the case. I wasn’t referring to you when saying somebody else was “unopen”.

Some people don’t get that there are other ways to make female models. If it doesn’t end up in the final product, then mod it. SD isn’t going to waste one of the 10 of their already made precious models you know.

In the future, women look like men. Case closed.

Or go play tomb raider or something.

OK im back on the top pick a buddy of mine found this for me here what he has found for you all, His name is Elp21 good friend of mine .

Just off the wire, some data on male/female online video usage…file it under “way more than we needed to know, Elp…”
Around seven in 10 male Web users viewed online video last year, according to a new report by research firm eMarketer. While women also turned to online video, they did so in smaller proportions; just 55% of female Web users watched online video last year, according to the report.

“Males consume online video more frequently and for longer periods than females do – even though more females than males go online,” writes eMarketer senior analyst Debra Aho Williamson in the report, “Women Online: Taking a New Look.”

The gender gap will shrink considerably by 2011, when an estimated 89% of online men and 85% of online women will view video over the Web, according to the report.

Why will women increase their use of online video? One of the factors reportedly stems from print magazines’ efforts to put more video clips online. “Female-targeted magazines ranging from Us Weekly to Teen magazine to Good Housekeeping are all rolling out video content; whether women will gravitate there in the long term is uncertain, but in the near term, the more content aimed at women, the better,” states the study.

EMarketer also reports that online video ads are causing some ill will among Web users. “Given a list of five negative aspects of online video, the top choice for both males and females surveyed in February 2007 by Synovate for ClipBlast! (an Internet video search firm) was that it was too commercial, with too many ads. Females were slightly more likely than males to feel this way,” the report notes.

That might explain why eMarketer recommended the use of non-video ads. “Just because your consumer is watching video online does not mean that your ad has to be video as well,” states the report. “An animated ad, or one that contains mouse-over calls to action, could be even more effective, triggering interactions that may not have been possible with a video ad.”

i guess more males watch more vids because of the adult content? just a guess… anyway i decided to start modelling a remake of crackhor for q4 but i can’t find the webpage im looking for, it shows free images of persons photographed by top, front and side positions. if someone knows of any photo resource site for modellers let me know

To me it’s a sign of respect, and one extra thing that SD can do to say they’re in touch with their fanbase.

It’s not going to make or break the game, or make me not buy it, but it’s one of those things where it shows that developers thought of many details overlooked by other games.
Just like it was nice to see an African-American face in wolf ET. At least I didn’t feel surrounded by all whites.
For what it’s worth, a female model would make me feel more immersed in the game. For some reason my brain accepts a universe with females much better than a universe with all males.

This late in game development, nothing should be added, nor taken away, nor edited, nor changed due to requests from fans, unless SD feels like it.

If you wanted female models, you are a year too late I’m afraid. You should have told SD you wanted them to put female models in game when SD first announced the game. Besides you have to take gameplay into consideration. I don’t think it is fair to have one class slimmer than the other ones.

I’m already waiting for the game to come out.
Why not wait for the next game to be announced, then post your problems there. If I have to wait, there is no harm in waiting for the next game to have female models.

It is like missing a boat or train.

Let SD decide. Seems that if SD does not post here about the matter, then you’re out of luck. No female models, but all is not lost. Behold the power of the MOD.

I remember when I wanted the cleric in Korax Heritage to be like something, then the guy who created it says, we have the source code and all the stuff you need to make a mod.

It is better to have a female fan create the female model than the many males in SD and their “view” of the female form.

Beware if Jack Thompson, Hillary Clinton, and feminist groups.

You see, I have nothing against girls (far from it), but ET:QW seems to be quasi-realistic as far as visuals go. It does it consistently. The fact is, women are not as physically robust as men. Otherwise we wouldn’t have separate Olympics for each sex. Top scores are a bit lower for women, too. You can’t outrun bullets, but only a small part of action is shooting, I think.
Not only that, but there are less adrenaline junkies among women.

Since we’re already quite politically incorrect, women usually have worse spacial orientation, and are worse at reading maps. Mental differences aren’t as pronounced as physical ones, but they do exist. I know there are many stupid men, but that’s not the point here. Most famous scientists are men. You can’t argue with facts. This doesn’t have to meen women are less intelligent or anything, it’s enough that they’re not very interested in math/physics/economy classes… And if you’re not interested in something, chances are you won’t excell at it.
In most cases women are less fit for front lines.

Additionally, male soldiers are notoriously aggressive and sex-starved. Putting some women into the mix is like asking for trouble.

Playing as a woman would make me feel mildly uneasy, and I would probably shun 100 percent female class. The nice part about FPP games is identifying with your character. Even hit/jump sounds can be distracting.
But there’s more - quickchat…

Honestly, I’m surprised memory constraints are STILL such a big problem. I mean, I have quite old machine (Geforce2 MX, Athlon 2800+) and I have 512 RAM in one dice. Can anyone tell me approximately how much space models/sounds take ? Like, all sounds for Germans in W:ET, or one nicely textured/animated Doom3/Quake4 model.

(mazdaplz) #108

oh yes we didnt mention the voicecommands earlier. a chick would sound like a dude all the time…otherwise twice the sound info to load.

(Nail) #109

ya know, you’re probably right on that, problem solved

(BR1GAND) #110

Both of these can’t be true else ET:QWs would just be one big cat fight, and thats not very PC, now is it!

(signofzeta) #111

Catfight lol. And when you board aircraft it becomes dogfight haha.

Ya I totally forgot about the voicecomms. But I do hear some who look like females and have male voices though. They are females, but they were males.

If SD were to put females in, they would have decided to put it in a long time ago. I bet they planned this and decided to scrap it.

(squadjot) #112

this lady was pretty tough i remember …

Pvt. Vasquez

but this one was even tougher…

i like the female characters in computergames also… often they have something to counterweight the opposite genders physical power.

i.e. if i could chooose this person

in QW:ET you would all be owned.

(signofzeta) #113

Heh heh female character with kung fu powers. Now that should be a sixth class. Now only if we mentioned this earlier.

(SKaREO) #114

I am guessing from reading your post you do not live in America, and you are not married (maybe never will be.) You use some very stereotypical generalizations that women of the 21st century would tear you apart with.

By the way, my Mom is the Director of Marketing for Home Depot, she is the smartest person I know, and very good with many subjects. She makes more money than anyone here on these boards (most of which must be “sex-starved” males as you put it … lol!) I think she would have a huge laugh at your post, if she cared at all about this subject.

I know I had a good laugh.

(BondyBoy007) #115

Well I had a laugh when you, having an issue with someones “stereotypical generalizations”, went on to make your own sweeping generalisation.

(Gringo) #116

U know making money does not always equate with brain power. The most intelligent men and women on the planet are generally not the richest as accorrding to this list:

Bill Gates (US) - $46.5bn
Warren Buffett(US) - $44bn
Lakshmi Mittal (India) - $25bn
Carlos Slim (Mexico) - $23.9bn
Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud (Saudi Arabia) - $23.7bn
Ingvar Kamprad (Sweden) - $23bn
Paul Allen (US) - $21bn
Karl Albrecht (Germany) - $18.5bn
Lawrence Ellison (US) - $18.4bn
S. Robson Walton (US) - $18.3bn

Tbh I dont think Borsuk was being sexist really tho some of his comments are best not repeated at a feminist convention. Generally I would accept that women shouldnt be on the front lines. No matter how hard one argues it women are not as physically strong as men. Plus their capture makes for some strong propaganda. I also think women are less open to getting brain washed into thinking it is good to kill people either like dumb ass fella’s are that make up most armies.

So no women on front line for me equals no women in game, tho if they were in the game I wouldnt really care tbh

(carnage) #117

I also think women are less open to getting brain washed into thinking it is good to kill people either like dumb ass fella’s are that make up most armies.

so aliens come from some distant galaxy and start eating people and what not. they have no concept of surrender and cannot be reasoned with, do you refuse to fight them on moral grounds?

if this is some desperate last attempt to save humanity from the jaws of extinction who wouldn’t be fighting!

however im quite happy to see no female characters in this game because i cant see how it would improve the game play at all

(Gringo) #118

Well I would assume some level of production would need to be maintained. U can just have every single person fighting the strogg and then no one has any food to eat, water to drink etc etc.

(signofzeta) #119

just asking, what is the percent female to male in the front lines anyway? Yes females joins the military, but are they in the front lines, or are they in the back doing some other stuff?

(Gringo) #120

There is a news excerpt ------>HERE

An interesting quote from it, “But a Ministry of Defence report, entitled Combat Effectiveness Gender Study, has found fewer than 2% of female soldiers are as fit as the average male soldier”

This as 2002 so I dont know how it has changed
