You’re right about it being placebo, assuming the OP’s mouse works equally well at all DPI steps which may or may not be the case, but scaled DPI has nothing to do with precision or sensor resolution.
The scaled DPI is just a convenient way to change your sensitivity. The native DPI of the sensor is what determines the sensor’s resolution and since it’s an optical property of the sensor, this cannot be changed with software or drivers. The only way to change the native DPI, and the resolution of the sensor, is to physically replace the sensor with a different one.
That being said some mice work better on certain DPI steps than on others due to how the drivers interpolate the steps.
@god1 You don’t always need to use the native DPI of the sensor for the best performance. Most mice have native steps which work just as well as the native DPI. The main thing is to avoid using interpolated steps.
