Do you play better with 400 DPI?

(Ghosthree3) #21

Good to know, obviously not every mouse has been tested but I guess it’s safe to say if the sensor is the same as one listed it’d probably safe.

I say probably because manufacture firmware can still cause bugs. For example the G502 has/had a bug where the surface tuning settings caused the mouse to shoot upwards sometimes if you lifted and dragged the mouse at the wrong angle. They’ve since released a firmware fix for that but it only applies to “Factory Default”.

Maybe I should try though, but I have no freaking idea about how my DPI is and how that website works.[/quote]

ABP users seem to not be welcome until they turn it off :stuck_out_tongue:

My 2¢, play around a lot with dpi and in game sensitivity. I recently got a new mouse, g502, and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why my aim was so off. I went into the settings until I found the sweet spot. Now everything’s back the way it was.

(Eox) #24

Following the analyser, once I decided to remove my mouse acceleration and set the sensitivity to a higher point to compensate, my DPI seems to be around 250. Yet I do not trust that website a single second. How am I supposed to precisely move my mouse by like 3 centimeters or some poop like that ? Especially since I use a Logitech MX Performance mouse : those are huge ! I just can’t make precision measures like asked on the website. I am sure there’s another way to calculate your mouse DPI without such a huge human error factor.

(yusayu) #25

Placebo. If anything, 800 dpi should make you more precise with high sensitivity such as yours in comparison to 400 dpi. However most people still won’t notice a difference between 400 dpi and a higher ingame sensitivity versus 800 dpi and a lower ingame sensitivity unless they are really precise with their hand.

Because there is no such difference.
DPI just comes ‘from the hardware’ (even tho thats not technically true, but w/e) and sensitivity is kinda like a ‘multiplier’ thats added via software.
Whats more important is to set all such crap like Acceleration to zero. Or just use native input.

Does this trigger you?

(Edzer) #27

Looks like I had to install my g600 software in order to change it. Changed it from 1200 to 400 now, don’t think it really matters though lol. Doing good either way.

Gross.

(ttownjoe) #29

I use 1600 dpi at 1000 Hz (1ms response rate)… most of yall must be using crappy razer mice?

(Harlot) #30

No a lot of us are using g502s which are top tier.

That mouse looks good, you guys turn off windows acceleration via registry fix?

(Ghosthree3) #32

Of course, though if a game is using raw input that won’t matter.

EDIT: Whoops, no. I don’t use the reg fix, I just untick ‘Enhance Pointer Precision’. Read it wrong.

(tinyHouse) #33

The higher your resolution and the higher your sensitivity the more dpi you need. The idea that 400 dpi was ideal came from cs1.6 players that used really low sensitivity (30cm-50cm/360) and played the game at 640x480 or 800x600.

(ttownjoe) #34

i run 2560 x 1440s and i think for most people its better to lower in windows or in game sensitivity and increase your dpi, good mice will perform better than the game software algorithms… and if you can control x and y separately even better to help with headshots.

No game made in the last half a decade, or very few at least, use windows acceleration. They either use raw input by default or have their own version of accel built in.

Also, due to supposed rounding errors with UE3 there is a recommendation that you play using at least 5 or higher sensitivity in UE3 games. However, the pages that reference and explain this reasoning are locked behind the Epic forums “maintenance” that were broken into not long ago and are still locked down. Google cache and the WayBackMachine both failed to retrieve results.

Highest sens is best sens -think fast!

(N8o) #37

If you have the option of use both X/Y DPI, I would try it out a little bit. Helps with aiming for the head if you get used to it.

(watsyurdeal) #38

Well after messing around for a while, come to few conclusions.

  1. Yea, 400 dpi isn’t the holy grail of mouse sens…it really depends actually on the game you’re playing and how you play it. I’ve found that maybe playing 800 dpi on 10 inches of sensitivity was giving me some pixel skipping, which might cause the slight issues I was having.

  2. I think the best way to determine how much dpi you need is to use this formula.

(resolution length * (360/fov in game)) / your sensitivity in inches

In my case

(1920 * (360/90))/11 = 698

  1. Definitely could be coincidence, lot of other things could come into play, my mindset, my connection, my confidence in my aim and concentration.

I think ultimately I just wanted to see if there was trend if 400 dpi was optimal for this game for whatever reason, but I was just being paranoid I guess. :\

I think I need a drink

(Pumpkiller) #39

I prefer using high sensitivity. It helps me adapting to characters speed.

(Matuno) #40

Oh wow, you guys use really low sensitivity settings…

I’m running 2000 DPI with 15 sensitivity, been rolling like that since early ET, works out fine. =/
