I’ve tried getting used to having it off a few times, but I just can’t do it. I lose the feeling and rhythm when shooting, so to speak. Quite frankly, I don’t get why so many have it off anyway; you barely gain any preformance from it, and it obscures nothing important anyway.
Do you have cg_drawgun ON or OFF?
I always had drawgun off in rtcw (weapons only) because of the muzzleflash but you can disable that in etpro. Plus it’s less annoying anyway in ET.
its off 4 me…
dont know what you mean with muzzle flash, but i remove it for the sort of fire that comes out. It distracts me + gives me a headache
Hmmm, interesting… I always have it all on… probably because I like the game the more realistic it feels…
Although, eq-Shrike, that does remind me, the mg42 does get in the way a hell of a lot, especially when aiming down… I’ll have to try this some time. Thanks
I have a toggle-script, but I usually only switch it to OFF when I play a MG-42.
You can turn off “the sort of fire which comes out” by setting b_muzzleflash 0.
Off for SMG, on for everything else.
same for me.
I used to play with it on but everyone said its better with it off … so i tried it and didin’t like it at first. After a while it grew on me and now i can’t play with it on as i find the gun distracting and you focus less on your crosshair … it also restricts your vision, especially when shooting from high
the weird thing is I have to have drawgun on (with muzzle flash) when using a pistol … go figure :suspicious:
The thing that is the worst with having it off, is that I only have the crosshair as a reference to when aiming. The gun kind of helps indicating where I’m shooting. When I’m in a itense duel, moving the screen sideways in a fast pace, it can be really hard keeping track of both the crosshair and the enemy’s head. I’m using crosshair 5 (red nipple, cyan areola ), size 48, so it’s not exactly small.
Used to play with SMG off and everything else on in RTCW, but with no muzzleflash in ET I find SMG on has it’s advantages, namely I can see the gun reloading. With gun off I had a tendancy to go storming into a firefight while still reloading
However, I’d say it’s all down to personal preference, but having used gun off for so long in RTCW I’ve become used to aiming with the crosshair (small dot) rather than the gun, and as a result aim does improve greatly.
draw gun ON. ,muzzleflash OFF.
The game looks much better with gun on, and I cannot detect any major fps-drops. Flash is off because it covers the screen (cannot see the soon-to-die enemies).
one of the reasons people say they turn it off for is because it means you won’t aim regarding the gun model yet who actually does that? as surely you’d have to be quite a fool to aim with the model instead of the crosshair, personally I have it on though, without it it seems like I’m not firing a gun anymore
its weird
The thing that is the worst with having it off, is that I only have the crosshair as a reference to when aiming.
imo that is actually the problem with using drawgun on … I found that rather than concentrating on the position of my crosshair in a duel, i would focus less on the crosshair and subconciously use the gun model to aim … very bad news for accuracy :<

I had the same problem. With the way my weapons are bound (see below) if i hit reload then immediately after hit weaponbank 2 it draws the gun during the reload animation without switching weapon. I do it without thinking now …
bind 0 “weaponbank 10; cg_drawgun 1”
bind 1 “weaponbank 1; cg_drawgun 1”
bind 2 “weaponbank 2; cg_drawgun 1”
bind 3 “weaponbank 2; weaponbank 3; cg_drawgun 0”
bind 4 “weaponbank 4; cg_drawgun 1”
bind 5 “weaponbank 5; cg_drawgun 1”
bind 6 “weaponbank 6; cg_drawgun 1”
bind 7 “weaponbank 7; cg_drawgun 1”
bind 8 “weaponbank 8; cg_drawgun 1”
bind 9 “weaponbank 9; cg_drawgun 1”
I actually tried to write a script so that the gun would draw when you are reloading but it didn’t work:
bind r “cg_drawgun 1; +reload”
i have the drawgun on, i think that it is posible that it improves you play if you remove it but you can make some very wierd things happen to drasticaly reduce the graphics and lightmaps and even not draw all parts of medels so you have the best view in the hole game but it destroys it
i like the graphics and think its a shame that ppl cannot enjoy playing the game instead they will just do anything to win it
Well let’s face it, ET isn’t really one of those highly atmospherical games where you play for the realism. I play with drawgun off because it distracts me… however, I’m not one of those people that goes and creates a big huge .cfg file to give me every advantage I can get… the only other setting I change is setting particles to 0 because the explosions cause my fps to dip in mid battle… otherwise all my other graphics settings are at medium/highest.
off for weaponbank 2 and weaponbank 3, on for the rest. If I hadn’t already gotten used to no gun in RTCW, I’d probably just turn muzzleflash off using etpro.
I have it on. I like the extra bit of realism it provides and I don’t need to save any computer power.
