Dirty Bomb player numbers dropping rapidly, what's the reason? Does the game have a future?

(tulipRowboat) #81

The hackers are the biggest issue I think. Think of it. A new player joins a game, hes having fun for a few games, then he runs into a guy whose blatantly hacking. Hes gonna either think ‘‘damn I suck at this game I quit’’ or ‘‘damn this game is full of hackers I quit’’. If it were up to me I would drop all development of everything and focus all resources on a new anti cheat.

New maps and game modes > new mercs.

Also matchmaking is totally broken, there should be major rework. A solution would be:

  • Central game server puts you in a game, you can only choose which type of game, map and what region (EU / US / AU etc). So you can’t choose your server anymore (except for private servers, see further).
  • Server decides which side you are on, you CAN’T switch.
  • Periodically, game checks on balance. When unbalanced (say 4v6 or something like that), server will autobalance, meaning a player will be swapped to the other team.
  • Private servers should be implemented. Host can decide what gamemodes / maps etc will be played. Host can also ban players from that server. Players can connect to the game through a separate list (apart from regular matchmaking).

Point 1 to 3 will mean games are almost always full and balanced in player numbers. So no more horrible 3v6 games, or people farming in servers with 2 players.

6000 players total are playing. Including hackers. How many legit players are actually playing this game? I’ve played today and I’ve seen 3 different hackers in 1 public game/server. I played for about 2 hours.

I mean y’know…

man, you dont even know what you are talking about. that is 6k players AT ANY GIVEN TIME. not 6k total players. it means 6k are playing RIGHT NOW. 6 hours from now, it very well might be a completely different set of 6k. the misinformation in these threads is stupider than the threads themselves
I didn’t word myself well but that’s what I meant. It’s still a shitty number of players and it will continue to go down if nothing’s done. The point of my post was hurry up and come up with the anti-cheat before your precious video game dies.

I totally agree. DB is begin to die. Problems are known.

  • no working Anti-Cheat, Competitive System sucks!
Lots of Competitive Players look for other games, streams on Twitch goes offline, people run away.
Time for Beta is over! Make it Final or this game sucks and die like Brink and ET:QW does.
If there is nothing happens in next few weeks, a few of my friends will also left like a lot of players do.
DB is an awesome Competitive Game but at this time it will only suck!

@SD & Nexon: Please give us a final Version, give us the ability for custom content (maps), give us dedicated Servers and give us a working Anti-Cheat.

Not going to happen. Workshop? Noway, we spend way too much time designing maps, we dont want to outsource that precious time. /s

There’s been a 50% drop in that peak since then so I’d say so. I don’t think a downward trend for a new game is sustainable.

(emeraldFlute) #88

Also that 13k peak was during the free elite case giveaway weekend. Probably not a coincidence.

Yup. And we had big streamers/YouTubers and other related press pulling in people early on. The dip is expected imo, though the situation with the anticheat and other things is no doubt contributing.

(caperingCrawdad) #90

@Anaconda said:
Oh yeah this new hack also constantly changes the hacker’s name to that of a legit player on the server

I’ve had this happen to me twice already.

(DadoPeja) #91

I was gone for a while, and i come back to see how game is going, well as expected this game has become a joke, sd doesn’t focus on hackers, and we tryed to tell them long time ago to start acting about it before it comes to this and yet game still doesn’t even have an in game report. Game will end just like brink!

Its the Unreal Engine. out there a lot of really good mappers. but for doing maps with this great balance (like the maps we have) they need to begin making maps now.
after this long alpha/beta the maps are boring.

(-0wnage-) #93

The sad truth is, everyone wants to believe the game is doing well and is hitting all sorts of achievements and it may well be but the trend no matter the reasons is still as far as I know, going downwards… that’s not the sort of trend that makes me smile about the future of DB.

Just sayin’

I think the “Open Beta” is the worst thing they could have done, all they are doing is exposing their incomplete game to the public for mass criticism. Go look at the steam review page, this forum, most other areas for how this game is being received. If I were Nexon I’d pull the game until critical issues like anti-cheat are resolved.

As a side-note last night I logged in, found hackers in most servers I joined and also the joy of some kind of exploit where players are getting over 50,000 exp in maps with the EV. I don’t think I’ll play again for a while…

(Pogo) #95

Client-side hit registration a is nice breath of fresh air, imo. If Splash Damage were to put some money into working a deal with Fair Fight or any server-sided anticheat, Dirty Bomb would much more likely live up to its potential.

Any sort of anticheat system able to create statistics over altering weapon damage should be able to fix this. SD could even do automatic bans over it.

I’d take Steam reviews and forum posts with a grain of salt.

The EV xp exploit was fixed today, by the way.

(A.D.N) #97

I am concerned, the player base is becoming less and does not look set to change, it’s a shame, I think it’s an excellent game.
http://steamcharts.com/app/333930#48h average weekly players 4000.

(watsyurdeal) #98

Dat Necro though

But tbh until this game’s Competitive mode is fixed to be a viable option to play on this game will die out eventually. People will get better and better, they will want to play with other experienced players in a non tournament, scrim, or pug setting, that is why Competitive is such a vital tool that NEEDS more attention.

(Izzy) #99

Just don’t make it a Savage-2 or Brink remake. I wouldn’t survive three awesome games to die prematurely because of a small player base…

(Faraleth) #100

Let’s not necro old threads please - this topic has been discussed countless times. Locking.
