Dirty Bomb player numbers dropping rapidly, what's the reason? Does the game have a future?

(majesticCape) #1

A month ago the daily numbers were approx 10k players a day, now they’re closer to 6-7k. I personally think it’s due to SD concentrating on the wrong things (pushing out the merc Phantom in the stage as he were was enough to drop the numbers significantly). Can Dirty Bomb ever get back up to earlier or higher numbers? What’s the reason that the game is failing?

(cornJester) #2

Or maybe quick join is just busted. I never have any trouble manually finding matches at any time in the US, where are you?

(immenseWalnut) #3

Nope, it isn’t dead, still roughly 6k players every day are logging in and playing according to Steam Charts. It is in decline though.

(fraggyb) #4

Quick join is bugged.

(DB Genome editor) #5

Yeah, Quick Join is definitely bugged. You’ll noticed that you never get put in a lobby with just a few people as you would expect if it was because the servers are mostly empty, you always end up in a completely empty lobby.

(XavienX) #6

There is a decline of players, but definitely not dead. The quick join, as others said, is bugged at times. Or maybe it’s a feature so they could get an empty server going.

(Fiktio) #7

You know, somebody has to be in the server first…

Dirty Bomb’s quick join has been bugged since the update. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I try to join with quick join, I find myself in an empty lobby.

check this out: https://steamdb.info/app/333930/graphs/

If you look up Evolve which came out in February and is supposedly a triple A game, you’ll see that Dirty Bomb is doing very well.

Triple A game. 600 players online.

Well done.

Look at this shit ‘BF Hardline’ 1500players max on a battlefield title

(IcySkyz) #12

Maybe? Maybe not? Unless someone has the power to read the future, then everything and anything is speculation. Just let the Devs and Nexon do their job and if it ends up that you don’t like the game anymore, just simple stop playing. If not, then continue.

(XavienX) #13

I’m really worried. It’s only been in Open Beta for a month and all this has just happened already. I don’t really like how SD do patches. They aren’t like other devs that slowly change something. They always make a giant change to something that people talk about.

(-0wnage-) #14

Ah right, thought the match making itself was gonna get a revamp sometime soon along the quick join. But damn, judging by that data… DB is looking like a 70 year old on the verge of collapsing.

Could anyone shed some light on how many developers exactly are working on DB? I heard 2 lol. Seems reasonable.

The 10k+ playercounts were caused by the game becoming open to everyone and the fact that it gained a lot of coverage on youtube and twitch but those playercounts do not reflect the reality, every game gets an initial spike in popularity when it becomes available to everyone.

(GodsMistake) #16

Probably the lack of a solid anti-cheat system dissuades some players. There is also a popular misconception the game is “Pay to Win” . It is not and I think all publishers ought to consider going back to $59.99 per game just to get these people to zip it. Every F2P game has a bunch of disgruntled players who scream pay to win. Its a tired, old, and incorrect statement for many of these games (there are some where this is true).

Some players may not have systems that can run the game and they run back to CS 1.6 because it runs smooth on their pentium 3 systems (its a joke, Im well aware the pentium 3 is not a 64 bit chip).

The reality is more like this: players have very unrealistic expectations and they do not comprehend what the term “beta” means. There are certainly bugs which need to be fixed, optimizations that need to be made, and to feature test the mercs and their abilities/augments. For those complaining about releasing new mercs before fixing bugs, this is part of the development cycle. If you are uncomfortable with bugs and updates coming in parts which the developers wish to test, then please, do us a favor. While you certainly have a right to voice your frustrations, the rest of us would appreciate it if you stayed far away from beta releases and wait for a final product.

(GodsMistake) #17

Use the server browser rather than quick join and you’ll be fine.

Before people get carried away with all the doom and gloom posts lately, here is CS:GO’s player counts from when they released in 2012.

Dirty Bomb is fine. People need to stop overreacting.

Good enough, my bad and I admit my concern may have been an overreaction. But that’s only because I genuinely would like the game to succeed.

We’ve just seen lots of people thinking the game is doomed (and many more will continue to say so from here on).

We all want the game to succeed, no one more so than SD and Nexon, I imagine.
