Did they test the bots on a hands-on review?

(Janolsen86) #1

It looks like they are putting a lot of work into the bots… Is there any hands-on reviews where they actully tried these bots?

(ayatollah) #2

Well I’ve played fritzbot and they were good!

Im really curious as to how are they going to instruct bots into completeing all those objectives and team functions. Also it would go a long way if they would make them behave human. They could somethimes make mistakes, use team chat, have diffrent personalities, use diffrent tactics etc.
Its imperative for a multiplayer only fps to have good bots

(ayatollah) #4

Maybe they get pissed off and shout “Haxxor!” at anyone who keeps killing them. Thats about as real as you can get!

(nappy) #5

Yes! I hope they perform the occasional teabag.

That is just childish…I know I have never squatted on another man’s face…In the game…

(kamikazee) #7

I know I’ll use my referee rights when I see someone tea-bagging.

(ayatollah) #8

I think my first task will be to create a mod that anybody who teabags some, spontaneously combusts…Like the Battery Beach script. And Mr Lover Man will play in the background.

that post was just… Disturbing… and wrong on so many levels

but on topic… it would be very hard to make bots play like humans… cause bots are… well… aimbots that are able to play by themselves without a human controlling them…lol

The bot idea is terrible and a waste of their valuable development time. This is a MP game and should be only as such. If you want to practice flying, set up your video settings etc. go to an empty server.

(Gringo) #11

I agree, dont really wnat bots myself and am not sure how viable they could be. The Omni-bots weren’t great, they could kill u from 200000 miles away but their tactic of running as a group in a straight line would make any heavy weapons fan cream their pants.

P.s. No offence if the creator of the bots reads this!

(ayatollah) #12

Don’t worry about it, Fritzbots are ore relavent than Omnibots!

(Janolsen86) #13

But they added bots to Quake Wars at the end of the games development it seems. I wonder if the bots would live up to its talk…

(Janolsen86) #14

The bots Sounds pretty beefy too, as they plan on implementing AI that uses everything that a human player can use. Will they be able to pull such a feat off? Well, since the release date is “When it’s done” they don’t have any pressure inciting deadlines to cause features to be cut, so it’s possible.

(ayatollah) #15

How do you know this, there has been talk about bots in QW for over 2 years. They could have been in development for 3 years, you don’t know.

When SD first anounced Quake Wars they said that the game was going to be a multiplayer game only without bots. Just one month ago they told us that the game actully would have bots included.

Around 6 months ago I looked at the SD homepage and I read that they were looking for a guy to do the AI work.

And one of the guys said at the press conferanse by acidente: The guy we recently hired to do create our bots came directly out of the mod community.

Sooo… its just a guess, but its seems like the bots havent been in develompent to long…

Sorry that my english sucks…

If a game has no single player than it needs bots. QW needs bots for many reasons, most importantly for sales and so that the customer gets a product with as much content as possible. Not to mention that bots open a whole new dimension of singleplayer games and they add something to the multiplayer as well.

I think bots will end up working just fine. So far everything SD promised came true, so I believe when they say bots will play well. After all they cant trun out worse than bf bots, and bf has a steady singleplayer community based around bots.

(Gringo) #18

Tbh I dont see how u can make bots for a game which is essentailly a mp game. Bots arent as smart as ur average human gamer (some people excluded). Im not sayin they wont work but im goin to cast a skeptical view over such matters.

(murka) #19

bots are uber aimers, they always know where i am. regular person cant understand if smb is sneaking behind him unless he looks back or hears footsteps. thats why bots are so unfair. but some ppl are worse that lvl -100 bots. atleast bots follow orders.

(Flesh) #20

If Im not mistanken firist mp fps ever made were Quake 3 and UT. They both had bots and they worked fine in both games so this is nothing unusual. The fact that all good multiplayer games end up haveing bots (ET is no exception) is proof enough that bots are needed in multiplayer. To repeat myself, bots provide for the singleplayer component of the game but they improve multiplayer as well. Saying that mp shooters should have absolutely no single player is the equivalent of saying that singleplayer shooters should have no multiplayer.

bots are uber aimers, they always know where i am. regular person cant understand if smb is sneaking behind him unless he looks back or hears footsteps. thats why bots are so unfair.

Thats why devs need to make them behave more human. The goal is that eventualy bots behave so naturaly that you stop noticing your playing against the computer. And since bots in games like couterstrike source have made good progress in that area, I see no reason why QW shoudnt.
