Custom Resolution

(simon) #1

I just wanted to see if anyone had an idea of how I could change the resolution of Enemy Territory to 1920x1200 or something in the same aspect ratio. What might that involve and what resources would I need to complete that task?

Yeah i thought about that too, my laptop has a strange resolution (14001050) and it just doesnt look nice at 1024768. Dunno where to start though

(Salteh) #3

use…

/r_customheigth 1920
/r_customwidth 1200

As far as I know this doesn’t work in fullscreen mode, so you will have to use
/r_fullscreen 0
/vid_Restart will restart et and apply the new video settings.

(pack) #4

will work on" r_mode -1" i believe

You can get rather decent fps on
/r_mode -1
/r_customheigth 100
/r_customwidth 100 :moo:

(HairyPlums) #5

LOL! haven’t tried it yet as I’m @ work…but does that really work? Now we’ll know what the mobile 'phone version of ET will look like :stuck_out_tongue:

(pack) #6

is unsafe var tho, wouldn’t experiment to much with it

Thanks for the replies, but I had no luck. As mouse has experienced, the image is still streched horizontily, which is kinda of disorientating after awhile (atleast for me). It seems the /r_customwidth doesn’t recognize 1920 as an acceptable resolution, it doesn’t give me the confirmation message “r_customwidth will be changed at vid_restart.” But I get that message if I type “1600” instewad of “1920”. Are there any other tricks I might try?

Simon

PS. MOuse, what type of laptop do you have?

EDIT: Okay, so after paying more attention, it is being rendered at 1920x1200, but it is still streched. so I’m just guessing that means the 16:10 aspect ratio isn’t supported. anyone know of a way to change that???

(mouse) #8

I have a laptop with a 15" tft, and an integrated Radeon 9000, noname brand  Its a nice thinghy.

(pack) #9

so did you try r_mode -1 or not … ?

(simon) #10

Yes, I tried everything there, and then some that wasn’t. I got it to recognize 1920x1200 as the resolution, but it wasn’t the right aspect ratio.

What’s your avg FPS with the radeon 9000? I haven’t bought an ATI card in years because of all the problems I’ve had. But if nVidia doesn’t get their ac together soon, I might try and ATI card out.

You said that it is stretched horizontally yes? bit of an wild suggestion here but you could try increasing your field of view to compensate for this effect

(Fusen) #13

thats what you have when playing with a screen size of 100x100 lol couldnt make out 1 word =X

lol, what sort of fps did u get there then?

r_customaspect doesn’t seem to do anything, or atleast I couldn’t get it to work here. Best bet is to play with the cg_fov command to get the image to fit correctly. Just be careful when playing on some servers, as some punkbuster configs limit the range of valid fov values. Its not a pretty solution, as the edges of the screen still look warped. But it does let you make the most of widescreen displays by giving you a wide angle shot.

This is mostly for representing world geometry. The loading screen, command map, and some aspects of your hud will always look stretched. Its a limitation of the UI code in the q3 engine.

Lol like 30 on open terrain (its a laptop mkay :P), but its playable. Inside its about 50 to 70. But a radeon 9600 or higher is what you should look for, isnt comparable (?) to my integrated thingy

Gotcha. I actually have a GeForce 4 Ti 4200… and it’s over clocked. So a t 1600x1200, I get 90-100 FPS open terrain and about 20-25 when there are a lot of airstrikes. I’ sure it has to do with all the particles.

Thanks RK, but I think I’, just SOL. I took a screen shot after changing the settings, and it is the same image, just streched 320 pixles wider. Oh well, guess I’ll just have to deal untill game makers realize that wide screens are becoming standard.

Simon

EDIT: OKay, so scratch that! Once I actually figured out how it works, this it great! just so everyone out there with a wide screen knows (atleast if it’s 16:10 aspect ratio) use /cg_fov 108 . If I wasn’t so dense before I would have realized that it’s Field of View in degrees. My screen would be 18 degrees wider (90/1600=0.05625 0.05625*320=18 : 90 is normal FOV, 1600 highest RES at fov90, 320=1920-1600 ; so 90+18=108) Thank you very much for your help. Now just to test it on a server with PB. I don’t have anywhere to host any images, but if you want to see the difference, and someone else has a place to host some pictures, I’d be more than happy to supply them. Only draw back is it changes the vertical FOV to 108, I wish I could keep it at 90, but oh well.

(Bludd) #19

Hrm, I like to play Q3A at 320x240 & fullscreen sometimes to get that old skool, pixelly Doom look, and I always wondered if I could do it with ET but never bothered to try…

(simon) #20

that’s funny, but I could never stand the graphics. I don’t even like turning the resolution down to 1024x768. But I’m sure with those commands, yo could turn the res down to 320x240.
