Well, I just like it for shits and grins. I wouldn’t actually play like that, it just looks kool, it’s nostalgic
It does work in ET, BTW, and it rulez

Wolfenstein 3D Forever!
Hey guys. I hate to revive such an old topic… but im desperate.
I finally got my 2405FPW in and I love it! But this, of course, brings up the horrid subject of et in widescreen. I might be asking in vain, but any suggestions would be appreciated.
Ok. So i know about r_mode -1,cg_fov, r_customwidth and r_customheight. Thats all good an well. I can make the engine pump out my game at 1920x1200 and find a fov im comfortable with.
But here’s where my problem comes in. The hud is HORRIBLE! I know its gonna stretch. I understand how that works. but can it be smaller somehow? Its almost like the game doesn’t know what res its running so it pumps out the hud for 640x480. Is there a way to manually set it somehow? Make it just a bit smaller? It would be soo super if you could. Here’s a pick if anyone’s not sure what my fit is all about.
Lower your res and put some AA+AF on, or even atleast some AA… those zigzag lines look fugly at any res!
cool. I’ll try it out. I’d seen it referenced a couple times in other forums, but I thought I’d always read that no one had any success with it. I’ll try it out anyways.
Yeah. I’m still in the early stages of playing with it, and I wasn’t concerned with AA or Aniso.
I’ll enable them and repost a ss to make you happy. :-p
is this one better for ya?
I know its not real good for you to see/not see the jaggies on… but i enabled 4xAA and 4xAniso. I could prolly do more, but i didn’t feel like leaving the game to change settings again.
from what i could tell, i couldn’t make r_customaspect do anything. but then again… i didn’t know what kind of values im supposed to use for it. Default is 1… so i tried 2. did nothing. I tried 16:10. Nothing. I tried 1.33. Nothing.
Again, maybe its doing something but i sure can’t tell.
But I did play with it a bit, and its bothering me less. I’d still like to know if there’s a way to make it smaller. Change the server/kill log thingy’s display size… or hell even make it translucent. I dunno. Maybe I’m too wishful.
/seta r_customaspect “1” should do the trick (i.e. enabling the custom aspect). Iit worked at least in Q3A: http://www.planetquake.com/mhg/#q3 . But maybe its not fully implemented in ET. (And afaik Doom3 doesn’t support custom aspects, e.g. for wide or dual screens, too.)
Doom 3 does indeed support custom res for wide and duel screen. Here’s a screenshot i took of my D3 running on both monitors at once.
What I dont understand is it indicates that r_customaspect’s default value is 1, and it was infact what mine was already set to. So i changed it to 0 and did a /vid_restart. Nothing looked different. so i put it back to 1 and did another /vid_restart… again, looked exactly the same. so im not sure it does anything under et.
But like i said… I am getting used to the widescreen more and more, despite the awkward UI.
yeah. I can run d3 at 1920x1200 just fine as well. (using similar techniques; r_customwidth, r_mode -1, etc) I enjoy it quite a bit. I havn’t played with customaspect in d3, but the streched UI overlay doesn’t bother me as much in D3 as it does in ET.
On a similar yet unrelated note. For giggles I wanted to get screenshots of some good ole SOF2 in widescreen, but none of these seem to work at all. It responds to r_mode and r_customwidth and height… but when I /vid_restart it drops back to 640x480. Like it has an error and drops back to defaults or something. I dunno, I didn’t play with it long. Maybe I mistyped something. I may jump over an check out Raven’s forums. See if there’s a solution there that might exist in ET as well.
Peace out
I’m not sure if you’re talking about ET or D3… but the answer for both is no. I don’t run them in windowed mode when using widescreen. (1920x1200)
Although, and I did think this was kinda odd. It doesn’t work on startup of ET. It will default to 640x480 everytime ET is restarted, and I just type the r_mode, customheight and width and fov in manually each time I first load ET. I could make a config file I could just execute each time i startup the game, but i havn’t taken the time yet to do it.
I assume it messes up due to the little profile bug ET is common for. (I assume you know what I’m talking about), and I used to fix the problem by deleteing my profile and resetting it up, but I’ve yet to mess with it much this time around.
Anyways, I know thats a long drawn bunch of crap just to answer a simple question.
So in short. No. No windowed mode.
