Coward players, I hate you all

(eRRoLfLyNN) #1

As I mentioned on Manny’s thread http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&t=8220 I see the following happening more and more on ET servers:

Take this scenario, it happened again and again on the servers I played on yesterday -

I join mid-campaign (even on normal 3 mappers) and notice that Allies are having a hard time. My spec screen is looking at the beach on Battery and all I see is Allies running up the beach totally aimlessly into smoke (bad arty smoke) and gunfire and grenades and panzers. Axis has at least twice as much XP as Allies, and often, a few more players.

But none of these cowards would even think to switch teams, for fear it would (omg \o/) affect their leet kill/death ratio, or maybe (omg, even worse \o/) it might even mean they would have to actually put some genuine effort into playing the game they claim to be so f**king fantastic at.

Then come the players that are even bigger cowards than those wankers. You see them connecting:

xxx!iaml33t connected

Then they wait until some gentlemen of the game, like my dumb self (:P), join Allies, until they can finally join their cowardly brethren.

These are the worst, for it is usually this lowest form of scum that will begin to taunt Allies as soon as they begin playing.

xxx!iaml33t: omg noob Allies
xxx!iaml33t: pnwed
xxx!iaml33t: The enemy is weakened! (global spam)
xxx!iaml33t: Great shot! (to himself)

etc
etc

Then arguments arise when Allies try to be reasonable pointing out that the teams are obviously uneven. And when I say uneven I don’t even mean in terms of XP, I mean in general terms of skill and ability.

eRRoL: Come on guys this is getting boring.
xxx!iaml33t: shut up noob, zzz
xxx!iaml33t: Wunderbar!

The teams are now 10 v 7 (some smarter people than myself having jumped server). You call a vote for a shuffle, and watch the NOs race up. Oh the cowards have fast reflexes to get to their F1 key when that vote is called. “OMG I might get switched to Allies and have to PLAY this game F1 F1 F1!!!”

Battery ends (the map is not necessarily Battery - I am not taking about map design or anything here - I am talking only about the fairness of players and balanced teams) with a very low-morale Allied team. And into another wipeout in Goldrush. People, like xxx!iaml33t, will say shit like:

xxx!iaml33t: a noob team don’t get camped

I am not even talking about getting camped - camping is fine if the teams are even because your team can fight out of it eventually - I am talking about your cowardice and your smugness of playing as part of a team that is made of players that are probably twice as skillful as you, but who are at least not spamming Allies with verbal abuse.

Very rarely the Allied team will get its act together at some point and play well and, say, make good ground in Goldrush or whatever the map might be, because one or two of the better Axis players have left the game. And even though the teams are now even in numbers (eventually), watch these mouthy cowards run, they run so fast that you don’t even get the satisfaction of beating them. As soon as the sniff a loss or a beating they will run to some other server and be a coward there all over again.

Well I just want to say that if you are one of these players, I fucking hate you, and I hope I never meet you on any server that hosts the beautiful game of ET.

Has anybody got any suggestions for good servers where an average player like myself can find a good, fair game of ET (ETPro preferably)? There must be some out there. Everyone always says the clan stopwatch servers, but I really don’t have the level of skill of those guys. I am just an average player who loves the game.

EDIT: changed url at top

Ownage is part of the game and in my experience it almost always happens when a team doesn’t work together. Just view being owned as a challange to work on your skills, being owned sucks but turning the tables is awesome. Let the other team be smug then.
I don’t really agree with switching sides in match either, not all matches are going to be even so you might as well live with it. Sure sometimes you have to fill up the other team when they don’t have enough players, but other than that, I only switch on new maps.

I agree with errol, it really does piss me off.

Couldn’t the shuffle vote be restricted to the team who calls it? Would make much more sense.

(fattakin) #4

I Agree with ya Errol and know how much it frustrates you. If im having a good game on a Pub and the XP is flying and im top of the team i will swop teams after every game and try and balance it out so its still fun.
If im playing an average game and its a badly stacked team setup my enthuasiam drains quicky and i wonder why teh hell im still playing.

I do wonder how many new players ET gets per week, sometimes its clear a player is new and ive no problem helping them along. But its the cocks who wander about in their own world, covert ops, mortars on trains… all the usual suspects that crack me up!

Working together <> public play.

IMO (and I only play pubs now cos my ping is too crap for clan matches) the very best you can hope for regarding teamwork is maybe, just maybe, 3 team members working together.
Mind you, often this is enough to win a map

You gotta bear in mind:

  1. Most maps (bar radar) are defensively biased
  2. Defence naturally tends to congregate, meaning ‘teamwork’ is more likely (although technically it’s simply being in the same place at the same time through circumstances)
  3. People don’t like a challenge.
  4. XP accrues much quicker on defence generally.

What this means is it only takes a few maps of non-shuffling for defence to outstrip offence.
My responce is of course to go medic, since even a low level medic (if you are a decent enough shot) can still take on and beat higher XP enemies of other classes.

Teamwork is non-existent, but defence gives the illusion, hence defence tends to win and they think it’s cos they are skilled.
On the few rare occasions where I’ve been lucky enough on a pub to have say 3 or 4 decent players with me who know how to play, we’ve won pretty much every map in record time.

In other words, it doesn’t take a lot to break through idiot defence - particularly since the best camping spots are so widely known, and therefore easily circumvented.

Of course, there’s no taking into account people’s lack of desire to shuffle, nor attackers’ stupidity (eg on battery they get massively camped because none of 'em know there’s at least 1 alternative bloody spawn!). If it really annoys and defence are being wankers, there’s not really much alternative to changing servers.

My one bit of advice would be ‘find an adminned server’. They invariably offer a better standard of public play. The only exception to this are servers where the admin are wankers, but you don’t want to be playing there anyway

PS: I love people who wait for a losing side to have more or equal players so they can join the stronger defence. With zero XP and a mindset like that, you just KNOW they’ll be crap at playing  That’s the fun thing about ET - the n00bier the player, the more vocal they are, meaning the stupider they look when owned!

dude this is too true, i know wot u mean

some guy was spamming and bragging about his 1337 ownage on the cowards team, he mainly was saying im a n00b and calling me cos i was getting killed by spawncamping and artillery and mg42’s and mines by other people, he hadnt actually killed me, i called voted and watch the F1 rise, so i got the server admin in to even the teams, done, and sure enough he was on the other team, STILL mouthng his arse off, i owned him, i killed him 17 times  and then he started calling every1 a fucker, blaming his teammates, saying its was luck and lag, so i killed him 3 more times, he took a stressy and left, i put his name into my tracker and searched for him, i joined the server he was on and killed him a few times and then he called me a fucking newb and left and stoped playing

i pwn you man, and to The Detonator if i EVER see you again, your dead man

i only ever switch teams to even the teams, if im an extra player like 12v11 i will maby change if the others are getting owned, a few times my team was cowarding out after ownage, i joined the other team kicked there ass as the tables slowy turned and 4 of them (the 4 main peeps shouting out ownage and cowards) left after a good shouting of n00bs and your all fuckers

im gona be really honest, i used to be like this is RTCW, cant get my way and change teams + shout fucker, but im no longer a n00b

Everyone always says the clan stopwatch servers, but I really don’t have the level of skill of those guys. I am just an average player who loves the game.

I frequent a couple of SW servers (!nfamous and Guns of Death), and the player there are friendlier and the team play is better than on servers that attracts 1337 players (like BiO and Efterlyst). Give it a try before assuming you don’t have the skill.

The one bad thing about pub SW servers is that some players don’t understand what SW is and disconnects after 1st round (“don’t want to play the map again”). Although I’m usually the first one to switch when teams get uneven it does suck a bit when you have to try to beat your own time. :stuck_out_tongue:

(blushing_bride) #8

i also hate mouthy players. If you want a nice server then Splash Damages Server 's is mostly full of nice players but only really in the evenings between about 8-11. There’s quite a few of us regulars who dont mind switching teams when its necessary and we’re mostly nice most of the time. (btw sorry to say in aint expro and its not SW either)

i usually back outa a fire fight if there is some form of health behind me and i need it, or i need to reload but other than that its a fight to the death

(bubba g) #11

I agree with Errol.

I get around this by mostly playing on the same server, and there is a group of about 20 regulars, with usually around 10 on every evening split between the teams - which makes for good games (I would say it is around 50-50 on campaign wins).

The downside of this is if you play at other times during the day, you realise the poor level of teamwork, and just lose interest - very annoying when on hols and wanting to get some fraggin’ done during the day!

(Fusen) #12

change server… you can’t do anything about twatish players except from try to callvote on them and be F2’d faster than when calling a shuffle or change server sooo just change server =]

(Rain) #13

When I’m stuck in a situation like this, I love it when I can manage a trickjump over e.g. the oasis wall and win the round, despite the fact we had nary a chance on the map prior. It pisses off the Axis team so badly that it usually makes up for our team’s loathing in the previous map.

(G0-Gerbil) #14

he took a stressy and left, i put his name into my tracker and searched for him, i joined the server he was on and killed him a few times and then he called me a fucking newb and left and stoped playing
Classic!
And yeah, Rain, nothing like winning a map when being owned
Just did that on railgun - they had tug at depot and had the spawn - they were so desperate to run to axis spawn to camp that I just went around the back and stole the tug - got it the whole way round without any incident at all, and of course after that it’s plain sailing!

(evilsock) #15

Had the very same experience today  Freetime on my hands and access to a BB connection (yay!) - I ended up joining ‘noobhill’ server (I like the name - heh) - specced for a bit and realised Axis were being pinned down in their own spawn. Joined Axis as a med (still the most abused class tbh - when I med, I get enough XP to be able to revive team mates with more or less full health and do ‘drive by’ revives ;)) - anyways, Allies were so busy spawncamping (7 v 10) that they took the depot flag to get to the Axis spawn quicker - I grabbed the tram and more or less managed to get the thing all the way to the depot without getting shot at once. That’s like 50% of the graft done - got killed, another player must have realised this also and took the damn tram all the way back - again mostly unopposed.

I hate the mouthy players and I’m not too keen on ppl who think ratios are the last word in deciding if your a decent player or not. Kinda think I’d be playing a different game if those were my primary reasons for playing tbh.

(Mr_Tickles) #16

You two were on the same server weren’t you?

(G0-Gerbil) #17

sadly not, it’s very rare for me to run into anyone I recognise on a server - I can’t actively hunt 'em down because my choice of servers with a reasonable ping are extremely limited.
FWIW I play on Clan RentaServer XP Save 69.93.180.247:27960 - as a new clan they can tend to be a bit ‘enthusiastic’ with their adminning (eg changing gravity and stuff), but they are slowly getting better as they realise it makes people leave.

(k1ll3r) #18

speaking about stopwatch servers, if anyone wants to fill 213.201.220.58:27960 , it’s all SW rounds, maps: base oasis caen ice village goldrush supplydepot2 beach. That is, we want old rtcw players here :stuck_out_tongue:

(puubert) #19

i hate this too. If a shuffle doesn’t get through, I usually go spec or leave the server. Once you make it ridiculously one sided, some people on the dominant side will get fed up too. I remember playing a game of Railgun as Axis, we were 3 men down, and our highest XP’d player would have ranked second last on Allies. It was total anarchy at the spawn hut. Continual arty, panzers, mortars, snipers. I tried to talk my whole team into going spec, but they weren’t interested. I just left. One-sided games aren’t fun, so I just leave. People won’t listen, so I don’t waste my breath, so to speak.

([!]Icon) #20

the only thing i can say is dont pub, this is basically what happens on pubs now, that why i ussually raid a server with 5 or more buddies so i know ill have some people in there that are actually doing somthing and not being a dumbass. ussuallly i get all of my ET in scrims and matches. its better that way because you know almost everyone in teh server and you know there wont be any bullshit youll have to put up with.
