Having recently been without my PC for a few months I found myself playing on the PS3/X360 a lot more (and enjoying it, liked Resistance 3 so much more than Killzone 3), now I have it back I’ve pretty much left the consoles to one side again, I do need to grab Journey though! I just find the experience on a PC is more flexible, the fact that you can do other things so easily makes it a great entertainment platform, and I might be a freak here, I find sitting in a comfy office chair a lot better than leaning over while sitting on the sofa. Just my preference mind.
Portable wise I have some games on my android phone, they’re good for a quick play when watching TV or laying in bed. I don’t find I play anything too in depth, Draw Something seems an ideal thing, where you can jump in and out in a minute or two, likewise angry birds etc. I might be swayed to play longer but I’ve yet to see a game that warrants it. The 3DS gets cranked out once in a while for some intensive play but then I tend to get distracted by something else and it’ll sit there for a few months.
Games. I find L4D2 Campaign keeps pulling me back, the map length seems good at around 30-40 minutes. The fact it’s co-op means less antagonism and raging so on the whole it tends to be a more relaxed experience. The core for me however is just that the experience is really measured by the three other players, daft I know, but it’s like you’re actually meeting three strangers and taking part in a journey together, not only working your way through the maps but also learning what they’re good and bad at. Sure, sometimes it sucks (people are like that) but a lot of the time you can get a good return on your invested time. Would say I’m also enjoying the Survival Versus mutation right now too, it’s a bit more skill based (much like versus) but the short playtime means you don’t hang out too much. I’ll ride off the other question thread and say that the fact that the game tinkers with your weapons and drops also means there is very little in the way of distraction of the player other than to reach the objective. While I don’t expect SD to make a L4D game I’d really love for them to steal some ideas and concepts from Valve.
