are trickjumps allowed in official calnbase matches? E.G. the oasis walljump?

I once asked Insomnia this and he said ‘no’ (about jumping over oasis wall and planting from the outside wall at guns).

But as their rules don’t update for ages nobody really knows what’s allowed and what’s not.

The general rule is:

It is not allowed to take advantage of or abuse bugs. Any kind of bug abuse is considered cheating and will lead to a forfeit loss.

Although you can hardly call jumping over the wall without any aid whatsoever ‘a bug’ imho.

these arnt busg though a bug would be the inside bank airstrike bug if the map maker didnt want it AT ALL possible to jump over something they would make i twice as high so I can’t see hows its called cheating/bugs myself and all I care about is the jump over the wall I would even plant it normally lol

Dunno about clanbase but other leagues (twl for instance) have banned bug abuse (stacking to plant outside guns in oasis, air striking bank in goldrush) but have made no rules banning trick jumps or strafe jumps. They arent bugs, but i dont think they are intentionally put in the game… maybe if SD makes a patch they can fix these things.

As far as I’m aware strafe-jumping is inherent in the Quake3 engine on which the game is built, so I don’t know if it could be nerfed. But it’s never been an issue in RTCW (or Quake for that matter) so I can’t see what the problem is in ET.

Very few trick-jumps have any real use or advantage (apart from the Wall jump on Oasis maybe), but then Axis would have to be pretty dumb to give an Allied Engineer time and space to do it.

Wall jump on oasis is of course not a cheat, in my humble opinion. If youre skilled to do it and, like the person above stated, the axis fail to see it, then an engi-wall-jump over Old city wall would be perfectly legit.

OMG if the map was designed to be able to jump over that wall do you think they would of put the time and effort into making the wall in the 1st place???

Come on wake up and play ythe game proparly!!!

Why dont you just say is it ok if we increase the Dyno blast so we can planbt it at the Spawn and the blastr will still get the 2 guns… Pftttt in fact why play the game at all…

God use some skill and tactics and get a covert to lket you in if you dont want to blow the wall…

It’s not like the Q3 engine physics is news to SD. Don’t you think they knew how to prevent it if they wanted to? (OK, it is possible they just forgot about it. :eek3: )

I don’t like it either, but I can live with it. Just as I can live with Allies stacking to jump the sea wall on mp_beach (RtCW).

Set com_maxfps to the default value (and not to one of the magic numbers) and you will have great problems to manage that jump. These kind of jumps have more to do with computer power (for the constant high frame rate) than with skill.

it is an odd one really I can’t see that SD didn’t realise that this could be jumped as straffe jumping is not a new thing nor is it a really big jump when compare to some of the distances jumped in trickjump map for rtcw and it isn’t really a bug it is just something that can take time to master but everyone should try to learn the technique of straffe jumping it will get you around maps alot quicker which is more of a help than just little trickjumps like this which a good clan won’t allow you to get away with

Correct me if im wrong but as far as i am awear this happens because as you jump the computer/game or what ever takes your jump Frame per frame so you can turn and shoot in the air…

To solve this problem they wpould have to RE WRITE the basic code of the game costing LOADS of money time and probably cause MORE bugs…

Just use common sense and dont use something that should not be Exploited

Ok the Jump videos are cool to watch but thats where it should end…

The Shrub mod made it so you could do a double jump and basically made the game CRAP… Every map was ruined

Oasis- jump over the wall= game over
Rine- Jump over the Bridge gap (so you didnt have to build it) or jump over the axis door = GAME OVER
Batery- Why build a ramp??? = Game over

The server i used to play on was full 24/7 then he put the double jump in and the server is lucky to get 1 person a week now…

CAUSE ITS CRAP AND SPOILS THE GAME…

But specific jumps like the old city wall could easily be prevented by the mapper.

How does the “double jump” you’re talking about work? (Never heard of it.)

Hmm well redesigning the map to stop a few “petty” players that refuse to play fair seems a bit stupid to me but anyway…

That Double jump is… you press jump and you jump as normal then Press jump again and you jump again so you jump 2x as far and/or high

Like i said you can Jump over the Rhine Bridge Gap…
Jump over the oasis wall…
And again on the Oasis map when you come out the 2nd water tunnel the building in front of you has a Balcony that sometimes has people on it (its art of the Fort) you can jump up onto the balcany to, makeing all mines usless…

First off, you can do these jumps on any computer.

/bind key toggle pmove_fixed

use that key to turn non fps dependent jumping on (has bad effects, use sparingly)

These jumps are not exploits. These are simply JUMPS.
None take anything special besides a bit of knowledge.

And walbanger, double jump (if it exists, never heard of it) can be turned off in the configs.

pmove_fixed doesnt work unless it is also set serverside.

I actually believe that these kind of jump places are left on the map on purpose :slight_smile:

You should always expect people to use the built-in physics to it’s full extent when designing a map. The wall jump can even be done by bunny-hopping, which takes less skill than a strafe jump and doesn’t require 125 FPS. If it’s forbidden by the server admin or the leagues it’s one thing, otherwise I can’t see how it can be considered unfair. (And before you even go there: I can’t make the jump myself, but I do defend the route when playing Axis.)

I can’t find anything about a “double jump” in the Shrub docs, maybe you can name a server that has it enabled? (It’s not “bunny-hopping” you’re refering to is it? When you hold the jump key as you land, and if it’s a downhill slope you can reach crazy speeds?)

The double jump will be a part of the upcoming shrub version (1.2). So at this point the double jump is only available on servers that test the new version. Go here for more info.

And what do you think about the trickjump that allows you to go into the fueldump? (as in etmoves part 1). I did it yesterday (not official match), and they werent happy with it. I understand why, but im not sure if im on safe terrain using that jump or not… Your thoughts?
