Call Of Duty: Anyone Tried It?

(schmeisser) #1

I didn’t know Activision made this one. They are hyping it on the History Channel during military history programs, looks pretty good. The screen shots look good too, but that’s usually not representative of the what the average PC can render. I this the same RTCW engine, or something new?

The game is selling good atm here in Sweden. I havent tried it myself yet. Anyone? Comments?

Played it ,very good single player found the Russian levels the most enjoyable,Multiplayer is a bit “Seen it before”.

Yeah, single player is great. The Stalingrad scenes are nothing short of amazing.

Multiplayer leaves a bit to be desired. I know a ton of people were hyped about it for months, but it just seems like a prettier version of mohaa…

Pretty much as said above, single player for the most part is awesome, especially the russian missions, and I definately look forward to any future expansion packs. Some of the missions are a bit short, and I think theres a few too many “lone wolf” missions for a game that so hyped the whole “War wasn’t won by one man” squad bassed thing. It seems like they threw some MOH style lone missions in just to keep certain people happy which I didn’t like to be honest. Other than that, the single player is great.

I havent really given the multiplayer the time of day, It’s too much like MOH for my taste, I prefer ET’s class based, objective orientated system.

I downloaded the “Dawnville” FPS single player demo. I get thru the opening screens ok, but at “click to start” it crashes. Anyone else have this problem?

Single player was good fun, and pretty unique as far as FPSs go. Too bad they didn’t put in coop mod, that would truely rock.

MP didn’t do it much for me. Slow moving, limited jump, lots of damage.

dont get me wrong, its good and all, but i think it have some out at a bad time, considering the past year and a half we have seen countless wwII shooters, and i my opinion, they are starting to get a little repetitive.

Its a good game multiplayer is fun also but something is missing. Another game that has a good single player is hidden and dangerous 2.

(Machine for to kill) #10

I’ve installed it and played it a bit but i don’t like it much. the fighting system really turns me off. I don’t care much for all that accuracy bullshit. I would care for it in a stealth based game or something like Americas Army but i think considering the fast pace of this game it just makes things annoying…but I’ve played it for a bit…i want to finish it but there’s nothing in it that makes me want to play it. I likes MOHAA a lot more…maybe I’ll post again when I play it all through.

Don’t even bother with MP too many cheats destroying the game, as for SP it rocks, you get to use flack guns, drive tanks, travel in a car and shoot at germans while being driven, and getting off the boat and going up the embankment at Starlingrad would have to be the best part of the game.

(Cyber-Knight) #12

the fact that it’s like Medal of Honor is cuz the core group of developers are Medal of Honor programmers using the Quake 3 engine.

(somewhat ironic I would say as MOH and RtCW were competitors when released)

(fattakin) #13

Ive played the Single player once, for 3 hrs and stuck at one frickin part of the game where the same spawning bastids keep taking me out, shooting before i turn the corner etc frig sake.

Multiplayer - dont make me laff - ET farts in its general direction

My roomate who was a fan of MOHAA (I’m not) showed me that you can load ANY pervious autosave. So all you have to do to get out of that situation is go to load and load the the one prior to your most current autosave.

I had to do it because I was on the Russian sniper level, where I had to like charge this house thingy and get on the anti tank guns, and blow em up then defend the house from the rushing axis (pain in the ass btw) and it autosaves with 2:00 minutes remaining, and unfortunately for me, I was blasted by a tank at 2:01… so everytime it loaded I was in a corner with the shell shock effect, and I couldn’t escape… it would load, I would try to run for maybe a split second then the tank would finish me off EVERY single time. So thank god for those other autosaves. I would have had to start the entire game over again. Hope this helps!

LOL larry same thing happend to me :drink:

(Vink) #16

I like the melee attack with the weapons especially the german “potato masher”. I can’t even begin to count the amount of times i’ve been killed while tryin to bash someone over the head with one of them, pity ET dosen’t have this.
Its a really good single player game but the mp part is kinda same as a lot of other games. Maps are nice & I had excellent FPS throughout the game.

(Azzadar) #17

the fact that it’s like Medal of Honor is cuz the core group of developers are Medal of Honor programmers using the Quake 3 engine.
You could kind of call it MoHAA 2.

It uses the modified Quake 3 engine RtCW used. The scripting in SP is almost the same. I think the SP rocks, but MP is the same old kill us before we kill you.

(colic) #18

Single player is alot better then multiplayer

Cough Cough Weeezeeee Weeezeee punkbuster… errr well if your wanting a cheating anti measure dont buy CoD as there is no punkbuster for this game. I thought there would be as it is an activision game.

Having paid full whack for it, my advice is if you want to play it on line with some security against cheats then done… well not yet, until there is punkbuster

Me wonders if Doom3 will have PB!!

(EvilBaga) #19

It looks great (SP). But frankly I dont like it. I prefer fast paced games RTCW style.

I really hated that part… it was a matter of saving every 5 seconds. The germans didn’t storm the building… they just spawned in it. So you couldn’t actually hold the building… you just had to run around. (I played it in hardened)

I know its a computer game… but I would have liked it if the gameplay stayed serious, considering the music they use, the war time photos, histoical events… etc.

It actually started to feel like RtCW at times… or Indiana Jones. :stuck_out_tongue:

But yeh… top effort, nicely polished weapon system with the iron sights. Most of the maps were pretty sweet as well.
